A pack-level battery hardware-in-the-loop simulation (B-HILS) platform is implemented. It consists of dynamic vehicle models using PSAT and multiple control interfaces including real-time 3D driving and GPS mode. In real-time 3D driving mode, user can drive a virtual vehicle using actual drive equipment such as steering wheel and accelerator to generate the cycle profile of the battery. In GPS mode, actual road traffic and terrain effects can be simulated using GPS data while the trajectory is displayed on Google map. In the latter part of the paper, several performance tests of an actual lithium-polymer battery pack are carried out utilizing the developed system. All experiments are conducted as parts of actual development process of a commercial battery pack adopting 2nd generation Prius as a target vehicle model. Through the experiments, the low temperature performance and fuel efficiency of the battery are quantitatively investigated in comparison with the original nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) pack of the Prius.

It is indispensable to grasp the turning ability of a ship to operate her effectively. For this purpose, the author measured the turning ability of training ship, A-RA by use of bow thruster and stem rudder. The turning ability of this ship, in case of using both of stem rudder and bow thruster at the same time, caused by increase of steering angle provides more influence to the size of tactical diameter than it caused by the power of bow thruster. But the influence of bow thruster on the turning ability is available only within rudder angle $5^{\circ}\;-\;10^{\circ}$, so it is possible to grasp that the effect of bow truster is reduced as rudder angle become bigger. In case of the influence of bow thruster by her speed, the ability of bow thruster is very effective at low speed, but it is almost not available in normal turning speed. Therefore, the using both of stem rudder and bow thruster can be useful in case of low speed proceeding at entrance or departure of the narrow waterway or inside port which sea traffic is congest for collision avoidance.
Because present road traffic reaches to the limitation of its faculty, Korean tilting train was developed to find the solution by increasing the speed of rail road. A tilting train can run on a curved rail at high speed so it improves a speed of a rail transit without constructing a new line. Only minimum modification is necessary for a existing line. According to above requirement, Korean tilting train was developed in 2007 and the try run has been executing since April, 2007 in order to validate its safety and reliability in a service lines. And this test and estimation will be completed in 2009. After completing a try run, main parts of tilting train will be studied again to commercialize and localize including a bogie and its commercial model design will be finalized by 2012. In order to achieve the development target as mentioned above, the study have been done to improve the bogie system. As the first step to design commercialized bogie system, measurements from the try run and a dynamic analysis were used to find problems of present bogie system well. So this project is performed to decide what parts of the bogie should be modified in basis of this result.
Machine learning (ML) algorithms have been intended to seamlessly collaborate for enabling intelligent networking in terms of massive service differentiation, prediction, and provides high-accuracy recommendation systems. Mobile edge computing (MEC) servers are located close to the edge networks to overcome the responsibility for massive requests from user devices and perform local service offloading. Moreover, there are required lightweight methods for handling real-time Internet of Things (IoT) communication perspectives, especially for ultra-reliable low-latency communication (URLLC) and optimal resource utilization. To overcome the abovementioned issues, this paper proposed an intelligent scheme for traffic steering based on the integration of MEC and lightweight ML, namely support vector machine (SVM) for effectively routing for lightweight and resource constraint networks. The scheme provides dynamic resource handling for the real-time IoT user systems based on the awareness of obvious network statues. The system evaluations were conducted by utillizing computer software simulations, and the proposed approach is remarkably outperformed the conventional schemes in terms of significant QoS metrics, including communication latency, reliability, and communication throughput.

Reportedly the fatality rate from secondary collision is six times higher than the average fatality rate from all traffic accidents. So prevention of the secondary collision is attracting significant attention from automotive industries. However, the secondary collision prevention systems that have been developed are not considering possibility of brake actuator failure that can occur by the impact during the initial collision. In this paper, a new system has been developed that could prevent secondary collision even in case of brake actuator failure by taking advantage of still operating actuators. In this system, a steering control is performed for maintaining a lane by using linear quadratic regulator. Additionally, the system attempts differential brake control with the remaining braking capability to stop the vehicle in the shortest distance. Through simulation in various collision scenarios, the system has demonstrated significant potential of preventing secondary collision that could otherwise have resulted in severe fatality.
Cellular Phone use while driving is one of the critical causes of traffic accident by falling the driver into the improper lookout and inattention situations by disturbing the driving behaviors and by increasing the driver's mental workloads. These days, therefore, governments in many countries are trying to Prohibit the cellular Phone use while driving by the law focused on the hand-held type of cellular phone. This Paper investigated the impacts on the hands-free cellular Phone use while driving to the drivers Performance among normal and two different level of secondary task driving conditions in the urban of Japan. As the results, quantitative differences of drivers eye movement, subjective mental workload, steering wheel angle entropy, and cognitive Performance of secondary tasks were compared between straight and curve (right turn) section for each driving condition.

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate middle-aged drivers' driving performance and heart-rate as the behavior and physiological changes due to intersection types in left-turn situation. Background: In Korea, the drivers were aged 40~50s are most plentiful. In addition, the intersection traffic accidents are increasing every year. However, the researches for middle-aged drivers and intersection environments have been little. Method: In this study, three kinds of left-turning intersection types(T1, T2, T3) was used as the within-subject independent variables, three age groups(young, middle-aged, elderly) was used as the between-subject independent variables. Also, passing time, approaching velocity, speed and steering variations and heart-rate were used as dependent variables. Results: Overall, middle-aged drivers' driving behaviors were similar to those of the younger drivers. At the T2 intersection type, however, the approaching velocity of middle-aged drivers was similar to younger drivers, whereas the passing time of middle-aged drivers was similar to elderly drivers. Conclusion: These results could be interpreted that a transition driving behavior of middle-aged drivers in terms of age would be appeared on the T2 intersection type. Application: The results might help to understand the characteristics of driving behavior for middle-aged drivers.

Determining the cause of a traffic signal violation is difficult if the drivers' claims are contradictory. In this study, the process of identifying signal violations using a simulation was presented based on cases. First, statements from the driver or witness whose cause of the signal violation is unclear were excluded. Second, the final position, final location, damaged area, steering status, braking status, and road surface traces of the vehicle were collected. The impact point was investigated from the stop line. Third, simulation data were modified and entered until the collision situation of the accident vehicle and the final stop position were met. Fourth, if the simulation results were consistent with the crash situation, the facts were verified by cross-validation to conform to the driver's statement. The results of the simulation showed that the Lexus entered the left turn signal in the intersection at approximately 55 km/h. In comparison, the Sonata driver saw the vehicle straight ahead at the intersection, entered the 72 km/h intersection, and collided with the Lexus. Therefore, the Sonata was identified as a signal violation, and the claims of the Sonata driver, witnesses, and police were contradictory.

vehicle simulator as part of an empirical analysis the driving characteristics of elderly drivers. To this end, the driving characteristics of the elderly driver from previous study review. he driving characteristics of the elderly the driving elderly driver and general driverIn summarizing these experimental results, the -test showed different driving characteristics from general drivers in all items except for one side of the lane, such as driving speed and driving operation (brake, throttle, steering operation) at a significance level of 95%. Second, when changing lanes, it was difficult for elderly driver to maintain speed and secure an appropriate distance between carslderly driver changed lanes even in inappropriate situations (short distances between cars). Third, in unexpected situation, elderly drivers needed more distance and time.
