  • C-ITS is a system that uses bidirectional communication between two vehicles or infrastructures to control traffic more conveniently, and safely. If C-ITS security is not properly prepared, it can cause traffic congestions and fatal traffic accidents, and therefore can affect greatly on the driver's life. This paper proposes the prevention and response mechanisms based on the cyber attack scenarios that can be used to attack C-ITS.

  • COSMOS system which was developed in Seoul for real-time signal control was designed to judge traffic condition for practicing signal operation. However, it occurs efficiency problem that stop line detection and queue length detection could not judge overflow saturation of street. For that reason, following research process GPS data of Seoul city's corporationowned taxi to calculate travel speed that excluded existing system of stop line detection and queue length detection. Also, "Research of calculating queue length by GPS data" which was progressed with following research expressed queue length. It is based on establishing algorithm of judging congestion situation. The algorithm was applied to a few areas where appeared congestion situation consistently to confirm real time traffic condition with established network. • The communication between the center system and the local controller in the Traffic Signal Controller Specification has been specified by a communication line for the exclusive use and the analog modem serial protocol. Therefore, it can't be adapted in the ITS communication network of the TCP/IP protocol being constructed in the local city. The international and domestic ITS device's communication specification has adapted the DATEX-ASN data exchange technique based on the ethernet communication network. So, this study was performed by the purpose of developing the application communication protocol's standard draft based on the TCP/IP communication protocol for the traffic signal controller, to be able to constitute the traffic signal control system in the ITS communication network. The communication format for 23 items of control, status, and database request etc. which are specified in the standard traffic signal controller was developed by appling the DATEX-ASN data interface procedure and structure which are KS ISO X 14827 Part1, 2, ISO/ DIS 15784 Part-3. To test the developed protocol, the application program for the communication items was developed and according to the test result, the encoding and the decoding transection for all communication items was possible.

  • Recently, as IT technology and the ubiquitous environment have diffused, the application of these techniques are being attempted in the field of traffic operations and management. Therefore, it is necessary to develop data collection systems and signal control strategies that are suitable in the ubiquitous environment and that will improve efficiency and safety of signalized intersections. The authors conducted a study on the Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) signal control strategy using a wireless communication network between individual vehicles and a signal-control system and full actuated signal control technique to propose a new signal control strategy in the ubiquitous environment. The WSN was defined to evaluate the algorithm used with PARAMICS API simulation. The simulation produced results that the WSN signal control is more effective than other signal control methods. The WSN signal control could reduce vehicle delay time to a maximum of 64% in comparison with other signal control methods in low and near saturation flow conditions.

  • In the companion paper, the composition and structure of the MATDYMO (Multi-Agent for Traffic Simulation with Vehicle Dynamic Model) were proposed. MATDYMO consists of the road management system, the vehicle motion control system, the driver management system, and the integration control system. Among these systems, the road management system and the integration control system were discussed In the companion paper. In this paper, the vehicle motion control system and the driver management system are discussed. The driver management system constructs the driver agent capable of having different driving styles ranging from slow and careful driving to fast and aggressive driving through the yielding index and passing index. According to these indices, the agents pass or yield their lane for other vehicles; the driver management system constructs the vehicle agents capable of representing the physical vehicle itself. A vehicle agent shows its behavior according to its dynamic characteristics. The vehicle agent contains the nonlinear subcomponents of engine, torque converter, automatic transmission, and wheels. The simulation is conducted for an interrupted flow model and its results are verified by comparison with the results from a commercial software, TRANSYT-7F. The interrupted flow model simulation is implemented for three cases. The first case analyzes the agents' behaviors in the interrupted flow model and it confirms that the agent's behavior could characterize the diversity of human behavior and vehicle well through every rule and communication frameworks. The second case analyzes the traffic signals changed at different intervals and as the acceleration rate changed. The third case analyzes the effects of the traffic signals and traffic volume. The results of these analyses showed that the change of the traffic state was closely related with the vehicle acceleration rate, traffic volume, and the traffic signal interval between intersections. These simulations confirmed that MATDYMO can represent the real traffic condition of the interrupted flow model. At the current stage of development, MATDYMO shows great promise and has significant implications on future traffic state forecasting research.

  • Even though the semi-actuated signal control system based on image detectors has been spreading in Korea, any appropriate methods to evaluate the effectiveness and performance has not been established yet. Therefore, this research effort is aiming at developing a systematic method for evaluating the effectiveness and performance of the semi-actuated signal control system based on image detectors. To this end, this research firstly established measures of effectiveness(MOEs) and associated information to be surveyed from fields. Secondly, this research provided a procedure and methodology to evaluate any improvements due to the introduction of a semi-actuated signal control system based on image detectors. The developed methodology was examined at a case study site located in the city of Paju. As a result of the evaluation, the MOEs including traffic throughput, travel speeds, split usage rate, progression rate, etc. showed positive improvements though individual signalized intersections as well as coordinated corridors.

  • Recently, traffic congestion in the city is continuously increasing due to the expansion of the living area centered in the metropolitan area and the concentration of population in large cities. New road construction has become impossible due to the increase in land prices in downtown areas and limited sites, and the importance of efficient data-based road operation is increasingly emerging. For efficient road operation, it is essential to classify appropriate scenarios according to changes in traffic conditions and to operate optimal signals for each scenario. In this study, the Dynamic Time Warping model for cluster analysis of time series data was applied to traffic volume and speed data collected at continuous intersections for optimal scenario classification. We propose a methodology for composing an optimal signal operation scenario by analyzing the characteristics of the scenarios for each data used for classification.

  • This study intended to evaluate the operational performance change from the introduction of the bus signal priority system using the field data. To complete the objective, travel time and volume data were collected from the before and after study, then the distribution of individual vehicle's travel time and the difference of travel time and traffic volume were compared respectively. Analysis results showed that no significant volume change was observed from both passenger vehicle and bus for the major and cross streets. It was identified that the quality of travel time distributions of passenger vehicle and bus was improved after introducing the bus signal priority system. In terms of average speed, passenger car in a major direction increased by 6.5% and bus increased by 10.5% in general. Statistical tests showed that those speed differences were statistically significant at the 95% of confidence level. The results of this paper will be a good source for further research in the area of bus signal priority control.

  • Electro sensitive traffic system can not consider passenger car unit, so it causes start up delay time and passenger waiting time. In this paper, it antecedently creates passenger car unit at the bottom intersection using neural network. But, sometimes it can make mistakes due to changes in car weight, car speed, and passing area. Therefore, it consequently reduces the car waiting time and start-up delay time using fuzzy control of feed-back data. Moreover, to prevent spillback, it can adapt control even though upper traffic intersection has a different saturation rate, road length, road slope and road width.

  • The performance of the National Highway is raised, but the capacity of the signalized intersection on the National Highway is low. It's operated by TOD(Time Of Day) mode. To evaluate of the performance of COSMOS(Cycle, Offset, Split Model for Seoul), a real time traffic adaptive signal control system, on the National Highway, studied volume, travel time and queuing length at TOD control and TRC(Traffic responsive Control). Consequently, the average travel speed at TRC is high $2.9\~16.7$km/h then the average travel speed at TOD control. And te queuing length at TRC is low $15\~196m$ then the queuing length at TOD control.
