  • Security has become an issue due to the rapid increases in internet traffic data network. Especially P2P traffic data poses a great challenge to network systems administrators. Preemptive measures are necessary for network quality of service(QoS) and efficient resource management like blocking suspicious traffic data. Deep packet inspection(DPI) is the most exact way to detect an intrusion but it may pose a private security problem that requires time. We used several machine learning methods to compare the performance in classifying network traffic data accurately over time. The Random Forest method shows an excellent performance in both accuracy and time.

  • Traffic state classification is crucial for time-of-day (TOD) traffic signal control. This paper proposed a traffic state classification technique applying Deep-Embedded Clustering (DEC) method that uses a high dimensional traffic data observed at all signalized intersections in a traffic signal control sub area (SA). So far, signal timing plan has been determined based on the traffic data observed at the critical intersection in SA. The current method has a limitation that it cannot consider a comprehensive traffic situation in SA. The proposed method alleviates the curse of dimensionality and turns out to overcome the shortcomings of the current signal timing plan.

  • As recently the network environment and application services have been more complex and diverse, there has. In this paper we introduce a scheme the extract useful information for network management by analyzing traffic data in user login file. For this purpose we use classification and association rule based on episode concept in data mining. Since login data has inherently time series characterization, convertible data mining algorithms cannot directly applied. We generate virtual transaction, classify transactions above threshold value in time window, and simulate the classification algorithm.

  • The traffic classification is a preliminary but essentialstep for stable network service provision and efficient network resource management. While various classification methods have been introduced in literature, the payload signature-based classification is accepted to give the highest performance in terms of accuracy, completeness, and practicality. However, the collection and maintenance of up-to-date signatures is very difficult and time consuming process to cope with the dynamics of Internet traffic over time. In this paper, We propose an automatic payload signature generation mechanism which reduces the time for signature generation and increases the granularity of signatures. Furthermore, We describe a signature update system to keep the latest signatures over time. By experiments with our campus network traffic we proved the feasibility of our mechanism.

  • As urban population increases, research on urban environmental noise is getting more attention. In this study, we classify the abnormal noise occurring in traffic situation by using a deep learning algorithm which shows high performance in recent environmental noise classification studies. Specifically, we classify the four classes of tire skidding sounds, car crash sounds, car horn sounds, and normal sounds using convolutional neural networks. In addition, we add three environmental noises, including rain, wind and crowd noises, to our training data so that the classification model is more robust in real traffic situation with environmental noises. Experimental results show that the proposed traffic sound classification model achieves better performance than the existing algorithms, particularly under harsh conditions with environmental noises.

  • This research is to the establishment of a conceptual framework that supports road characteristic classification from a new point of view in order to complement of the existing road functional classification and examine of traffic pattern. The road characteristic classification(RCC) is expected to use important performance criteria that produced a policy guidelines for transportation planning and operational management. For this study, the traffic data used the permanent traffic counters(PTCs) located within the national highway between 2002 and 2006. The research has described for a systematic review and assessment of how exploratory factor analysis should be applied from 12 explanatory variables. The optimal number of components and clusters are determined by interpretation of the factor analysis results. As a result, the scenario including all 12 explanatory variables is better than other scenarios. The four components is produced the optimal number of factors. This research made contributions to the understanding of the exploratory factor analysis for the road characteristic classification, further applying the objective input data for various analysis method, such as cluster analysis, regression analysis and discriminant analysis.

  • The automatic traffic sign detection and recognition has been one of the highly researched and an important component of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). They are designed especially to warn the drivers of imminent dangers such as sharp curves, under construction zone, etc. This paper presents a traffic sign recognition (TSR) system using morphological operations and multiple descriptors. The TSR system is realized in three stages: segmentation, shape classification and recognition stage. The system is designed to attain maximum accuracy at the segmentation stage with the inclusion of morphological operations and boost the computation time at the shape classification stage using MB-LBP descriptor. The proposed system is tested on the German traffic sign recognition benchmark (GTSRB) and on Korean traffic sign dataset.

  • As the number of Internet users and applications is increasing, the importance of application traffic classification is growing more and more for efficient network management. While a number of methods for traffic classification have been introduced, such as signature-based and machine learning-based methods, Skype application, which uses encrypted communication on its own P2P network, is known as one of the most difficult traffic to identify. In this paper we propose a novel method to identify Skype application traffic on the fly. The main idea is to setup a list of Skype host information {IP, port} by examining the packets generated in the Skype login process and utilizes the list to identify other Skype traffic. By implementing the identification system and deploying it on our campus network, we proved the performance and feasibility of the proposed method.

  • Traffic classification plays an important role in traffic management. To traditional methods, P2P and encryption traffic may become a problem. Support Vector Machine (SVM) is a useful classification tool which is able to overcome the traditional bottleneck. The main disadvantage of SVM algorithms is that it's time-consuming to train large data set because of the quadratic programming (QP) problem. However, the useful support vectors are only a small part of the whole data. If we can discard the useless vectors before training, we are able to save time and keep accuracy. In this article, we discussed the feasibility to remove the useless vectors through a sequential method to accelerate training speed when dealing with large scale data.
