To enable AI(artificial intelligence) to realize visual emotions, it attempts to create music centered on color, an element that causes emotions in paintings. Traditional image-based music production studies have a limitation in playing notes that are unrelated to the picture because of the absence of musical elements. In this paper, we propose a new algorithm to set the group of music through the average color of the picture, and to produce music after adding diatonic code progression and deleting sound using median value. And the results obtained through the proposed algorithm were analyzed.

This short paper briefly describes the proposed music recommendation method that provides suitable music pieces to a listener depending on both listeners' ratings and content of music pieces. The proposed method consists of two methods. First, listeners' ratings prediction method is a combination the traditional user-based and item-based collaborative filtering methods. Second, genre classification method is a combination of feature extraction and classification procedures. The feature extraction step obtains audio signal information and stores it in data structure, while the second one classifies the music pieces into various genres using decision tree algorithm.

For western music there has been a volume of researches on music information analysis for automatic transcription or content-based music retrieval. But it is hard to find the similar research on Korean traditional music. In this paper we propose several algorithms to automatically analyze the structure of Korean traditional music 'Pansori'. The proposed algorithm automatically distinguishes between the 'sound' part and 'speech' part which are named 'sori' and 'aniri', respectively, using the ratio of phonetic and pause time intervals. For rhythm called 'jangdan' classification the algorithm makes the robust decision using the majority voting process based on template matching. Also an algorithm is suggested to detect the bar positions in the 'sori' part based on Kalman filter. Every proposed algorithm in the paper works so well enough for the sample music sources of 'Pansori' that the results may be used to automatically transcribe the 'Pansori'.

This study proposes a process to design and analyze stage costumes by design elements for the costumes of the Korean traditional music cantata 'I Will Rise'. This study states fundamental references to make costumes of similar performances in the future and develop costume designs based on the format of a play. The findings are as follows. First, the costume production process of 'I Will Rise' is conducted in the order of directing intentions and script analysis, costume design, miniature production, costume production, costume modification, run, and post-production. Second, an overall Korean silhouette is expressed through the creation of costumes based on the construction of Korean traditional clothing (hanbok); however, from a detail perspective, a modernistic sensitivity is expressed through the use of modern elements (wing shoulders attached to shoulders, narrow ribbons made in a string form, and wristlets and belts) not found in hanboks. Third, tie-dying is applied to the costume colors of each character to highlight the traditional and unique feeling of dye and symbolic colors that effectively represent each role used to communicate the storyline and character emotions to the audience. Fourth, materials for costumes are cotton and linen (frequently used to create the texture of a Hanbok) as the costume of each character is emphasized to the use of additional and detailed materials such as artificial leather, hemp, and silk.

In this paper, we introduce a way to generate and control the serial music using stochastical tools. A serialism, which is one of composition techniques in the 20th century modern music, is composed using uniformly distributed notes or durations. To conserve this property, we design the optimization process to generate the random numbers which can be used to compose the serial music. The optimization are designed using chi-square test and auto-correlation test. User can also apply the additional constraint to the objective function for controlling the serial music. Using the our method, we can compose and control the traditional serial music automatically.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the problems concerning the arrangement of 679 Korean music schedules in the fifth edition of KDC and to propose improvements of that problems. In this study, therefore, the theoretical knowledge background of Korean music is examined first. Then, the development of 679 Korean music section and subsection from first edition to the fifth edition of KDC were examined. And the expansion aspects and their problems of 679 Korean music of the fifth edition of KDC were analyzed and some suggestions to solve that problems were proposed.

This study recorded the sound of Korean traditional musical instruments by considering the radiation characteristics of traditional Korean musical instruments and setting the diverse mounting angle and distance of microphone. By following recorded results, the study analyzes the optimum position of microphone and the characteristic of timbre through frequency range spectrum and repeated listening. This experiment of study is for technique of close microphone which is used in popular music, therefore it is recorded in the popular music recording studio. The study also suggests the optimum position for the microphone to record, and explains the difference of timbre at different position. The result of study will suggest the best technique of Close Microphone Techniques for Korean Traditional Musical Instruments not only to accurately express the beautiful and unique sound of traditional Korean musical instruments but also to obtain diverse timbre.

The Korean pop music people enjoy today is mostly based on the pop music from foreign countries. Therefore, not only is the history very short, but also not much research is done in the Korean pop music field. Especially in terms related with the singing method, in other words the breathing and vocalization of Korean singers, it is difficult to define where it is actually situated. To add a little, it seems as if it is swarming somewhere in the middle of Korean traditional music singing methods and classical music vocalization. As pop music made its way into Korea, Korean singers had to go through many trial and errors to sing the songs of singers that had different physical conditions. Singers getting vocal nodules because of excessive vocalization, was not a surprise at that time. Yongphil Jo, a Korean singer, wanted to overcome his limits and maximize his vocal abilities. He found the answers in Korean traditional music. One of his representative songs, "The lady out the window", is one of Jo's title songs and it is the song that made a turning point in the Korean pop music vocalization. The purpose of this research is to understand the circumstances of Korean pop music through the periodical and musical background of the past and find out why the song (The lady out the window) was such an epochal vocal method at that time. Moreover, this paper covers how the breathing and vocalization is expressed by analyzing the flow, the emotional expressions, and the techniques of "The lady out the window."

By employing in-depth interviews with a total of 14 television producers, the study seeks to investigate how the use of documentary background music has changed in the rapidly evolving media technology. This study reveals two major findings. First, the use of traditional compositional background music in TV documentary has been decreased for the last 20 years, while library music with various sound sources has been more likely to be used due to its artistic value, its digitalized formats, and its convenience. Second, the popularity of the library music use has changed the cooperative relationship between TV documentary producers and music directors, and their views on background music. Overall, compared to the past, the new media technology (e.g., much easier, faster editing process and communication through e-mails) has helped to come up with the current trend of using more library music. This trend however implies that the dependency of library music only may lose the unique value of television documentary as a work of creative art and eventually downgrade the quality of the programs. Further practical implications are discussed.

The study of popular music in Korea has been looked down on in terms of its academic value, which has led to the demise of research into this topic. Unlike classical music, all areas of study of pop music (history, theory, and performance) in Korea inevitably rely on curriculums and courses in foreign countries. This study focuses on the era of the Eighth U.S. Army when modern band music first arose in Korea to discuss the important role played by Shin Joong Hyun's Psychedelic music style. Shin Joong Hyun's new approach to arranging and harmonizing included the qualities of Western music, but kept the melody lines of our own traditional style. Shin Joong Hyun's music is still being played by today's musicians decades later and it definitely deserves to be praised for generations to come. Although this study only covers a limited portion of our pop music history, its purpose is to provide future generations of musicians with knowledge on the roots of our pop music culture.
