Korea and China have had close relations not only geographically but also ideally and culturally throughout history. Regarding their lifestyles on housing patterns, however, Koreans had a sedentary way of life, usually sitting on the floor while Chinese had a standing lifestyle, sitting on a chair. This paper tries to have a comparative analysis on similarities and distinctions of two countries' traditional furniture that had complied with each lifestyle. This paper also aims to explore the similarities and distinctions of the form and function of the traditional furniture of the two countries and then to put results of this paper in design and plan of modern furniture and housing in our times. The study can be summarized as follows. Even if, cultural and historical relationships of two countries, there is a different of traditional furniture's forms and types. The major differences are as following : Korean furniture is predominantly on the floor level with storing furniture while Chinese one is intermixed with seat-level and floor level styles. These characters seem to be derived from their own housing and life style. In Ming and Qing period China, Their developed in which intermediate people and building. But, in Korea their housing style had floating floor against wet earth, which finished woods, Ondol. Because of these finishing, the Korean traditional furniture was developed into a good form and a suitable dimension for moving. These differences in furnishing style seemed to well reflect building and housing style of each country. And Image map and positioning map can show the differences in a whole aspect.
Koreans were started moving to Yunhaju in Russia for escaping from tyrannical rule and famine in 1860's in Korea. Social and political situation of Russia were made it very hard to get to know about Korean's life there so far. But it was known that Korean Diaspora has been kept traditional way of living in without contacts between Korea for 140 years. This study examined the dwellings of Korean Diaspora in Yunhaju through reviewing related documents and records firstly and had a time to visit places which Koreans lived since 1860's for example Posyet(equation omitted), Suifen(equation omitted), Ussuriisk(equation omitted), Vladivostok(equation omitted), Partizansk(equation omitted) and took interviews with Koreans who lived there pre 1930's. Results of research were as following : 1) A first place to settle down for Koreans in Yunhaju was Posye(equation omitted) and scattered as time goes by far away from there. 2) Koreans were helping each other for living and they had their own self managing organizations in village there. 3) The villages which was made in Yunhaju by Koreans in the beginning were similar to traditional ones in Korea. 4) It was verified that dwellings which was built by Koreans in Yunhaju were similar to ones in north area in Korea. At that time lots of Korean Diaspora came from north part and they kept their own traditional way of building houses there for a long time. 5) Korean Diaspora have been kept traditional heating system ‘Ondol’ in their various types of houses until now in Yunhaju. Moreover, it is known that Russians prefer to set ‘Ondol’ in their houses recently as a very special and expensive heating system. This study would be a very good opportunity to standing out Korean history of housing in Yunhaju as well as evaluating their identification as Koreans. For this, it is needed to take more deep research in specific areas which could see more various types of housing and could compare ones between two countries.

Energy consumption statistics in 2005 from the Korea Energy Management Corporation show that building energy usage was about 24.2% of total domestic energy consumption, and 64% of total building energy usage was consumed by residential buildings. Thus, about 10% of total domestic energy consumption is due to the heating of residential buildings. Building energy can be calculated by the configuration of the building envelope and the rate of infiltration (the volume of the infiltration of outdoor air and the leakage of indoor air), and by doing so, the annual energy usage for heating and cooling. Therefore, air-tightness is an important factor in building energy conservation. This investigate air infiltration and various factors that decrease it in timber frame buildings and suggest ways to improve air-tightness for several structural types. Timber frame buildings can be classified into light frame, post and beam, and log house. Post and beam includes Han-ok (a Korean traditional building). Six light frame buildings, three post and beam buildings, one Korean traditional Han-ok and a log house were selected as specimens. Blower door tests were performed following ASTM E779-03. The light frame buildings showed the highest air-tightness, followed by post and beam structures, and last, log houses.
It is usual to evaluate the performance of the cool roof by measuring in-site rooftop temperature using thermal infra-red camera. The principal advantage of rooftop thermal infrared image acquired in oblique vantage point of super high-rise building as a remote sensor is to provide, in a cost-effective manner, area-wide information required for a scattered rooftop target with different colors, utilizing wide view angle and multi-temporal data coverage. This research idea was formulated by incorporating the concept of traditional remote sensing into rooftop temperature monitoring. Correlations between infrared image of super high-rise building and in-situ data were investigated to compare rooftop surface temperature for a total of four different rooftop locations. The results of the correlations analyses indicate that the rooftop surface temperature by the infrared images of super high-rise building alone could be explained yielding $R^2$ values of 0.951. The visible permanent record of the oblique thermal infra-red image was quite useful in better understanding the nature and extent of rooftop color that occurs in sampling points. This thermal infrared image acquired in oblique vantage point of super high-rise made it possible to identify area wide patterns of rooftop temperature change subject to many different colors, which cannot be acquired by traditional in-site field sampling. The infrared image of super high-rise building breaks down the usual concept of field sampling established as a conventional cool roof performance evaluation technique.
Most merchant of traditional markets think that the condition of market management is getting worse because of decreasing customers caused appearance of large retail stores such as discount store and changing of consumer's life style. Therefore special law was legislated for the activation of traditional markets in 2005. This special law include important articles about surroundings improvement, business management modernization and redevelopment of traditional markets. According to the small and medium business administration data, korea government furnished 177billion and 11billion(won) separately for the facilities and management modernization of traditional markets. Traditional markets of whole country planned and practiced modernization of facilities and management of traditional markets. And most of traditional markets interested in a large project such as establishment of arcade and car parking, remodelling of building, pavement of passageway etc. By the way, under the long term viewpoint, a large project presented above are not the best solution for the traditional markets because of its effectiveness. Maybe, for example, improvement of store signboard and display stand is more effective for the long time. As the problem of management modernization, yet a credit transactions. is the most important factor, only four markets have a plan for the credit transactions. And above all, we must realize that activation of traditional markets can be accomplished by merchant's own initiative participation.
In the urban area where rapid suburbanization trend continues, the role of mixed use building is controversial. It is argued that the mixed use building is an effective tool to recover residential function of urban core(urban regeneration). It is also argued that the building is a cause of serious urban problems, such as congestion, public service shortages. The fundamental purpose of this study is to examine the role of mixed use building in terms of urban growth management in Seoul. For this purpose, data of mixed use building from 1981 to 2007 are collected and analysed. The results show that most of mixed use buildings are located in either sub-centers or population losing areas, rather than traditional urban core. Therefore, it is hard to accept that the two controversial arguments. The mixed use building noncore areas in most cases. However, it dose help to increase population inflow in non-core areas. it is difficult to accept the public service assertion which states that super-high rise mixed use building causes public service congestion, because the building is built in population losing or demand decreasing area. Based on these findings this study suggests some policy alternatives such as urban service boundary or concurrency program to management urban growth.
Architects are facing increasing risks that result from heightened expectations of benefits and performance when designing green buildings compared to traditional buildings. This study aims to explore the possible risk factors for architects in green building projects in South Korea and assess risk mitigation measures. To attain this goal, 14 risk factors and 12 mitigation measures were determined through an extensive literature review. A questionnaire was administered to architects practicing green building design and criticality index was employed to assess major risk factors and mitigation measures. This study identified 'adoption of new technology and process', 'green building certification results', 'building products and materials', and 'energy saving uncertainty' as the major risk factors of green building projects. Additionally, the questionnaire proposed 'contract indicating each party's role, liability, and limitations clearly', 'utilizing integrated design process', and 'understanding client's goal in green building projects' as the three most effective risk mitigation measures in designing green buildings. There are few studies that focus on architects' perceived risks concerning green building projects; this study contributes to a deeper knowledge and attempts to fill the current literature gap, which would benefit South Korea's green building design practice by aiding in the development of better risk management strategies.
This study investigated users' perceptions and attitudes toward Korean traditional elements in contemporary spaces. We collected and analyzed the article contents of two design magazines, from their issues of January 2000 through December 2009, for a total of 87 cases. The results were as follows. First, the important motives for applying traditional elements to current living spaces were individual tastes, preference for a secluded life, and the users' childhood memories. Second, the most frequently used traditional element was traditional structure. Others were traditional spatial compositions and the use of natural materials. The two main purposes for renovating a space or constructing a building were to preserve traditional ambience or to add convenience and practical use to it. Third, the most frequently mentioned advantages of traditional elements were their environment-friendly characteristics, such as connecting to nature and using natural materials. Fourth, the users preferred, in order, Ma-dang, natural environments, doors/windows of various types and multiple functions, Toet-maru, Dae-cheong, and Nu-maru.
Purpose - This paper studies if types of markets have an association with several variables such as occupation, district, sales, employee, administrative district by a lessor, area in rental building and so on. Three attributes of markets can be general commercial zones, central commercial zones and traditional markets. Furthermore, we can investigate the degree of association by calculating the numerical strength and visualizing their distances on two-dimensional plane, once the association exists between them. Research design, data, and methodology - This work is performed by the 2013 report presented with Small Businessmen Promotion Institute in Korea and used by a chi-squared test and correspondence analysis by using IBM SPSS 23.0. Results - The results show that types of markets, including traditional markets, have an association with variables considered in this paper, and we can obtain the detailed associations between attributes of corresponding variables by inspecting two-dimensional plane. Conclusions - This study suggests that government authority and local autonomy can make strategies to vitalize traditional markets and to get win-win relationships among several types of markets by looking over our findings.

Our global environment and ecology are now facing crisis due to the hrincreased waster materials caused by reckless abuse of resources and energy with the continuous development of our society. Therefore the whole nation should recognize the environmental pollution seriously and should accept sustainable development principles. The country is looking for actions against the problems in various ways. The introduction of reckless and duplicating western housing plan should be ceased but a new housing plan conforming to our nature should be found. In this regard, it is believed that it is a good alternative to succeed tradition and identity of Korean housing plan and suggest a new plan for better ecological housing by analyzing the environment friendliness of our traditional Korean houses. In this study, the traditional residential components were divided into physical and design aspects and the characteristics of environment friendly Korean traditional houses were analyzed.
