  • This study explores perspectives on responding to EFL students' compositions at the semantic level. In the last three decades, there has been a shift from product-oriented approach to process-oriented one to teaching writing. The shift has led to the criticism of the traditional view on teacher response. The traditional view has been under attack for its overemphasis upon form and ineffectiveness on improving student writing skill. It is also noted that research into students' reactions to the traditional teacher response has been inconclusive. The process-oriented approach, on the other hand, draws its attention to meaning and the logical development of thought as well as linguistic matters. In this context, the present study discusses what EFL teachers need to take into account in providing the semantic-level feedback on students' compositions. Firstly, teacher response to student writing is on-going; teacher feedback involves teacher intervention in the drafting process, the revision process, and the presentation of product. Secondly, in the writing conferences, the teacher provides students an opportunity to talk about writing, assistance and advice on the content/meaning of the written text, helping them expand and clarify thinking about audience(reader) and purpose.

  • The purpose of this study is to present the basic approach of producing the luxury fashion brands containing of the Korean traditional traits on the basis of traditional transformation with the modern concept, taking the 'Vivienne Tam' 2000's collections. This study has focused on its transformation of the traditional one of China, and made this as the subject of investigation. It's design characteristic could be defined as "modern interpretations of China chic", and it would be divided into two groups. The ingenious mixture of Chinese tradition into the modern chic could be concluded like these. The external characteristics is categorized in the three ways (1) the aesthetic application of the Chinese traditional patterns(dragon, water waves, peony, Japanese apricot flower, bamboo, bats, Chinese characters etc.), (2)the modern application of Chinese traditional costume details(front opening of Chipao, mandarin collar and knot buttons) and (3)the modernization of Chinese traditional technique(knotting, embroidery, beading and paper cutting). To deal with the internal characteristics, (1)the aesthetic mixture of East and West, (2)the formative expressions of the traditional view on the universe and religion are remarkable. The Chinese embodiment and the view of the universe and religion was integrated into the patterns of dragon, water waves, clouds, fire, woods, and metals. In order to afford the creative designer capable of encompassing the East and West, the teaching about the Korean tradition along with the technical and practical aspect of fashion is most important, while encouraging the professional designer to make a sophisticated ones which are attributed to the Korean tradition, and thereby come to be attractive to the world customer. The study about the Korean costumes, traditional colors, the symbolic meaning of the traditional patterns, cuttings, compositions, extending to the various kinds of myths, songs, paintings and crafts are essential for the Korean designer brand to be the global luxury brands.

  • In this paper, we propose a multi-view coding(MVC) algorithm with considering view scalability. The proposed algorithm has a high compression efficiency by reducing inter-view redundancy through inter-view decomposition, and adaptively reconstructs a multi-view video from an encoded bit stream. Furthermore, a reference view can be decoded by a traditional H.264/AVC, and the other views are adaptively decoded at the receiver by filtering to support view scalability. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm performed better than the conventional H.264 codec even though it offers the view scalability.

  • The Chinese Architect Wangshu, who won the Pritzker Architecture Prize at 2012, is the first and only winner in China. This study focused on the expression of his unique architectural ideas. Especially with a high interest in Chinese traditional calligraphy and landscape painting, Wangshu tried to use its traditional features to form his own architectural way. First this study looked at the features of calligraphy and landscape painting. Second this research studied the expression of Wangshu's architectural practice in calligraphy's way. Lastly this study furthered study of Wangshu's architecture combined with landscape paintings' features. The results state these following. 1) For calligraphy, he used the "modular composition" of Chinese characters to architectural composition, which included architectural form and materials. The "similarities" and "space creation" of calligraphy are respectively applied to architectural spatial details and site planning. 2) For landscape painting, Wangshu borrows its elements to compose his architecture with "gardening consciousness". The "view method" of paintings was used to his architectural pedestrian flows, and Wangshu also based on the "space creation" of landscape painting to do architectural space design with creating the similar atmosphere.

  • This study examines the nature-introducing methods between Korea Traditional Architecture and Landscape Architecture dividing them into three; semantic methods, constructive methods and visual methods on the basis of architectural features deduced from Borrowed Landscape theory which is a typical nature-introducing theory in the orient. Through the findings of this study, we can explain the nature-introducing methods of Landscape Architecture by way of the method of the Borrowed Landscape which was frequently used by our ancestors for a long time to Introduce nature in the course of building structures, and we can find several similarities between the Architecture of two fields of both different times and areas. It can be said to be meaningful for us to be able to confirm the contemporary value of Traditional nature-introducing method through the Borrowed Landscape theory. However, we can find that there is a difference between Traditional Architecture and Landscape Architecture in looking at nature. If the Landscape Architecture which emerged recently as a result of recognizing the importance of nature, maintains the nature view of regarding nature and architecture as equal, the nature view of Traditional Architecture is essentially different in that it is humble and aims to return to nature. The most outstanding feature of nature-introducing way in Traditional Architecture obviously implies something different from the various architectural trends of 'nature-human', or 'nature-architecture' which appeared breaking the relation of dichotomy. It is the thinking that 'nature and human are continual', and 'human is part of nature'; that is, 'the humbleness to nature'.

  • Yoon Gil-Young(1911-1987) was a frontier of the field of Traditional Korean Medical Physiology(TKMP) who was academically active since mid 1950s until early 1970s. He wrote several important papers and books. Among his writings, "A Study on the Methodology of Traditional Korean Medical Physiology", which was published serially in the "Korean Oriental Medical Journal" from June 1966 until March 1967, played an important role in establishing the contemporary TKMP and showed his academic stance on Traditional Korean Medicine(TKM). This review will evaluate this paper's contribution to the establishment of TKMP in historical context, summarize the unique characteristics of his understanding of TKMP by analyzing the text, and then based on those information, examine his view on TKMP and TKM. Historically, this paper was written in transition period from the traditional TKM knowledge system to the modernized one. Aim of this paper was to provide a methodology for establishing TKMP as a scientific knowledge system like that of the western medicine. Based on his study of Yin-Yang theory and theory of five circuits and six qi in Huangdi's Internal Classics, he suggested those theories as methods to observing life phenomena and systematizing the observations. And he regarded these methods as of great value in determining the unique characteristics of TKM compared to those of western medicine. Through re-reading this paper, it was found that he had pride and confidence in the methodology of TKM, and also that he thought in scientizing and modernizing TKM it was very important to understand and efficiently put in use the methodology of TKM. It was also found that his view on TKMP and TKM was pro modernization.
