  • In South Korea, the growth of online shopping malls that are overtaking traditional offline distributors in sales requires the latter to concentrate on developing a variety of contents amidst the ever-changing and competitive market environment. First of all, attention should be paid to information on fashion item materials. This study examined the current status of online shopping malls with a focus on their three different types-specialized malls, general malls, and open markets-and investigated consumers' hedonic shopping motives and influence on fashion materials in terms of purchasing behavior. In doing so, this study surveyed men and women in their 20s-30s residing in Seoul or its surrounding cities and used a total of 255 questionnaires for statistical analysis. The statistical software program SPSS 15.0 was used to conduct frequency analysis, factor analysis, reliability analysis, and multiple regression analysis. The study results showed that in general and specialized shopping malls, consumers granted greater reliability and importance to fashion materials when their interest in shopping or attention to fashion items/brands was high and when they wanted rare items. In open markets, the more interest consumers had in shopping and the more sensitive they were to fashion information, the more dependent they were on prices; in other words, prices were found to have a greater influence on their purchase decisions than the quality of fashion materials. The findings of this study would be useful to marketers and distributors who are trying to develop their marketing strategies based on fashion material information, according to the different types of online shopping malls.

  • In this paper, we designed the models for pattern classification which can reflect the latest trend in time series. It has been shown that fusion models based on statistical and AI methods are superior to traditional ones for the pattern classification model supporting decision making. Especially, the hit rates of pattern classification models combined with fuzzy theory are relatively increased. The statistical SVM models combined with fuzzy membership function, or the models combining neural network and FCM has shown good performance. BPN, PNN, FNN, FCM, SVM, FSVM, Decision Tree, Time Series Analysis, and Regression Analysis were used for pattern classification models in the experiments of this paper. The economical indices DB with time series properties of the financial market(Korea, KOSPI200 DB) and the electrocardiogram DB of arrhythmia patients in hospital emergencies(USA, MIT-BIH DB) were used for data base.

  • International financial crises of the mid-l990s are widely perceived as the trigger that prompted recognition of the need for a new data quality management by the OECD, IMF, Eurostat and individual statistical agency. The official statistics improvements schedule in Korea was launched in 1996 as part of a broader internationally-agreed-upon initiative to strengthen transparency and promote good governance practices. These new initiatives are based on the Total Quality Management(TQM) movement and other management frameworks broadening the concept of quality beyond the traditional statistician's concepts of data quality. This paper aims to evaluate the statistics quality of Land Price Index. Evauation Method is the National Statistical Office's Data Quality Management System which focus on accuracy, timeliness, relevance, accessibility, comparability, serviceability, efficiency.

  • In this paper, we propose a method of analysis to show the heavy-tailed statistical distribution of file sizes in web servers, using TTT plot technique. TTT plot technique, a well-known method in the area of reliability engineering, determines that a distribution of samples fellows a heavy tailed one when their TTT statistical plots are lied on a straight line. We performed an intensive simulation using data gathered from real web servers. The simulation indicates that the proposed method is superior to Hill estimation technique or LLCD plot method in efficiency of data analysis. Moreover, the proposed method eliminates the possible decision error, which Pareto distribution or traditional method might cause.

  • The Sigma Level, proposed by Motorola Inc., is one of the many Process Capability Index (PCI)'s that have been presented since the 1970's. It is used to evaluate process capability and unlike other PCI's, it has an advantage in that it uses population probability distribution. However, it is originally designed for mass production and is inadequate to evaluate prototypes or early products in the R&D stages. For use in such cases, we propose an R&D target Sigma Level, derived by considering 1.5 sigma shifts in traditional sigma level from a statistical point of view. We also explain the way to find robust limits for design tolerance because the sigma level or defect probability is useful to establish economical tolerance limits at the R&D stage and mass production.

  • This paper introduces statistical features observed from measured batch data from the multiple operation state variables of dry vacuum pumps running in the semiconductor processes. The amplitude distribution characteristics of such state variables as inlet pressures, supply currents of the booster and dry pumps, and exhaust pressures are shown to be divided into two or three distinctive regions. This observation gives an idea of using an adaptive parametric model (APM) chosen to describe their statistical features. This modelling, in comparison to the traditional dynamic time wrapping algorithm, is shown to provide superior performance in computation time and memory resources required in the preprocessing stage of sampled batch data for the diagnosis of running dry vacuum pumps. APM model-based batch data are demonstrated to be very appropriate for monitoring and diagnosing the running conditions of dry vacuum pumps.

  • The study investigated the recognition and preference of foreigner to Korean foods in different nationality. Questionnaires consisted of two languages- Chinese and English were given to 180 residing foreigners in Insa-dong and COEX mall areas and interview methods were used. A total of 157 questionnaires were analyzed for statistical analysis. The statistical analysis was completed using SPSS Win(ver 11.0) for descriptive analysis, ${\chi}^2-test$, ANOVA and Tukey's test. Main results of this study were as follows: First, the factors foreigners considered when they chose food of other countries were; 1.new taste, 2.curiosity, 3.foreign culture, 4.foreign tradition. People from European and Asian countries were inclined to 'New taste' first, while people from American and Oceanian countries were inclined to "curiosity". Second, most of respondents have tried Bulgogi and Galbi before and many of them also have tried Kimchi, Kimbop, and Bibimbop as common Korean foods. Third, the preference was different according to their origins. Asian people liked diverse cuisines including Bulgogi, Galbi, Kimchi, Dubu Doenjan chige, and Samgaetang, while European and Oceanian people liked Bulgogi, Galbi, and Bibimbop. The preference for Kimchi was considerably high among Asian people, however, low among American and Oceanian people(p<0.05). Fourth, Deviation was little on the taste, color, and table settings of Korean foods; most of the respondents was satisfied on those factors. European and Oceanian people who were familiar with table setting according to time were satisfied at table setting of Korean foods, which focused on space, rather than time. Fifth, most of the respondents, especially Asian people, remarked that Korean foods were spicy. The opinion on the taste of Korean foods was variable according to their nations. Currently many of culinary companies from Korea were leading their active business in foreign countries such as China and United States. Their domain was not limited to traditional Korean foods, but expanding to various fields such as fast foods, bakery goods, and fusion snacks.

  • Objectives: Chronic diseases (CDs) continue to increase due to advances in medicine and increase in lifespan, affecting quality of life and resulting in economic loss through treatment costs. This study addressed the perception characteristics of the effectiveness of Korean medicine (KM) based on the existence of a CD to determine the national preference for KM treatment. Methods: Using data from the 2017 National Survey of KM Usage, we evaluated the perception on treatment effect of 16 diseases by dividing them into the CD group and the non-CD group. Response reliability was verified by applying the chi-square test (χ2-test) analysis method of the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) statistical program. Results: The analysis of the perception on effectiveness of KM for patients with CD (n = 1,050, 21.0%) and for patients with non-CD (n = 3,950, 79.0%) showed an overall similar trend for all the 16 diseases. The response rates of having some treatment effect were high for nine diseases namely, disc-related disease (CD: 70.7%, non-CD: 73.1%), osteoarthritis (CD: 72.3%, non-CD: 72.4%), frozen shoulder and shoulder pain (CD: 79.6%, non-CD: 81.4%), back pain (CD: 84.6%, non-CD: 85.0%), sprain (CD: 84.8%, non-CD: 84.1%), facial nerve paralysis (CD: 73.5%, non-CD: 71.7%), stroke (CD: 66.2%, non-CD: 62.8%), digestive disease (CD: 53.3%, non-CD: 50.0%), and common cold and rhinitis (CD: 44.7%, non-CD: 44.8%). Conclusion: The present results found that there was little difference in the perception on effectiveness of KM for each of the 16 diseases in patients with CD and non-CD, however, 70% or more of the respondents recognized some treatment effect on musculoskeletal disorders, regardless of the existence of CD. Preferential political support for KM treatment of chronic musculoskeletal disorders is recommended.

  • Purpose : The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of curl-up and proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) neck flexion exercises on stroke patients' trunk muscle activity, ability to control the trunk, and balance by comparing two exercise methods. Methods : The study involved patients who had been diagnosed with stroke based on the results of computerized tomography or magnetic resonance imaging at O Hospital in Daegu, South Korea, between January and July 2020. In total, 30 subjects were selected and by flipping a coin, randomly assigned to an experimental group (n=15) that performed PNF neck flexion exercises and a control group (n=15) that performed curl-up exercises. Both groups received traditional rehabilitation therapy for 30 minutes a day five times a week for a six-week period. In addition, the experimental group performed PNF neck flexion exercises and the control group curl-up exercises for 15 minutes a day five times a week over the same period. The subjects' muscle activity in the rectus abdominis (RA), external oblique (EO), and internal oblique (IO) were measured before and after the experiment. The subjects' trunk impairment scale (TIS) and Berg balance scale (BBS) scores were also assessed. Paired t test was performed to measure the amount of statistical change before and after intervention in both groups. An independent sample T test was performed to measure the amount of statistical change between the two groups. Results : Both groups experienced statistically significant increases in their RA, IO and EO muscle activity, total TIS scores, and total BBS scores after the intervention. No statistically significant differences in the changes before and after the intervention were found for any of the resulting values between the two groups. Conclusion : A comprehensive review of the study's results suggested that neck flexion exercises using the PNF irradiation concept and curl-up exercise are effective in increasing stroke patients' abdominal muscle activity and improving trunk control ability and balance in chronic stroke patients.

  • Controlling the total survey error including sampling error and non-sampling error is very important in sampling design. Non-sampling error caused by non-response accounts for a large proportion of the total survey error. Many studies have been conducted to handle non-response properly. Recently, a lot of non-response imputation methods using machine learning technique and traditional statistical methods have been studied and practically used. Most imputation methods assume MCAR(missing completely at random) or MAR(missing at random) and few studies have been conducted focusing on MNAR (missing not at random) or NN(non-ignorable non-response) which cause bias and reduce the accuracy of imputation. In this study, we propose a non-response imputation method that can be applied to non-ignorable non-response. That is, we propose an imputation method to improve the accuracy of estimation by removing the bias caused by NN. In addition, the superiority of the proposed method is confirmed through small simulation studies.
