Mural Painting of Koguryo Dynasty. root of Korean traditional pattern. has 5 types of pattern in its 24tombs: Fire pattern. Sun . Moon pattern, Flying angel pattern. Hill.Tree pattern, Holy animal bird Pattern. These patterns had developed specially in 3 regions that are Hwanghae-region, Pyongan-region, Jipan-region. from 4th-7th Century. A lot of fire pattern has found at Pyongan-region in 5th century. The ceiling right above 'Dori' frequently had the pattern. The pattern is organized in 'Kyoho' method. The sun.moon pattern was shown in Pyongan-region in 5th century. '3-leg bird'. representative of sun, and frog, representative of moon. were drawn in the pattern in 6th century, rabbit was added with frog in the pattern. Flying angel pattern had found most in Jipan region in 5th century. The pattern was not found in 4th century. Two types of the pattern are angels playing $$\mu$ical instruments and angels preying. The hill tree pattern was simple, antique, and immature in the beginning. the pattern had developed with real description as a landscape picture after the beginning. this pattern has been categorized as a landscape painting. Holy animal and bird patternn had placed in supporting rock between ceiling and floor with the mean of protection in after life These pattern, which were previously influenced by Chines culture, were developed with a base of Koguryo own tradition and supported establishment of a characterized Koguryo Cloture. This study will be a basic document for modern fashion industry of 21 century.
This study is to understand the characteristics of Korean Women's Jeogories in modern times on the changes of its color and coloration over the time. The research was that the characteristics of the costumes produced in modern times ($1890{\sim}2000$) can be categorized into six periods according to the change of times. 1106 women's Jeogories were researched intensively in order to understand them, the conclusions are following: When the Chi-Square Test is applied to conduct cross analγsis of the said six periods divided on the basis of relevant theories, it is found that there is just partial difference in the hues in1890-1959 while there has been a big change in the hues of all Jeogories since 1960. It also seems that such a sudden change In hues took place till the end of the 1970s but there have been no significant difference and no distinct changes in hues sin[e the 1980s. As for color tones, high luminosity and low chroma hues were mainly used in all periods, but low luminosity and high chroma hues have been frequently used since the 1960s. It indicates that the long-used conventional and traditional colors gave way to various colors which were freely applied according to the tendency of individualism In the selection of colors as well. As for the coloration, one-color arrangement was predominant in white clothes while the combination of main color Y and supplementary rotor R was overwhelming in two-color arrangement. After the 1960s, not just the five major rotors but diverse colors, including bluish green, dark blue, were used, even varied patterns for linings.

This study was conducted to confirm quality properties of sterilized Ganjang-gejang (marinated crab Portunus trituberculatus) with Korean soy sauce using by gamma irradiation and to improve quality of sterilized Ganjang-gejang. The Ganjang-gejang was irradiated at dose of 3, 6, 9, 12, and 15 kGy by gamma irradiation and there was evaluated in microbiological, physicochemical, and sensory properties. Total aerobic bacteria and fungi contents of non-irradiated samples were about 6 and 4 log CFU/g level, respectively. Gamma-irradiated samples at above 9 kGy did not contain aerobic bacteria or fungi at detection limit less than 2 log CFU/g, but sensory scores were significantly decreased depending on the irradiation dose. To improve the sensory qualities of gamma-irradiated Ganjang-gejang, the temperature was adjusted during sample irradiation. When samples were irradiated under freezing temperatures, especially on dry ice, the TBARS and the deterioration of sensory qualities of Ganjan-Gejang were reduced. Different odor patterns were observed among samples, as observed using electronic nose analysis system. The results of this study indicated that treatment with irradiation under low temperatures may help to preparing high-quality Ganjang-gejang.
Fractal geometry has become one of prospective research approaches as the complex structure of natural entities is not easily characterized by traditional Euclidean geometry. With the fractal geometry, we can better decipher the complex structure and identify natural and anthropogenic agents of landscape patterns occurring at different spatial scales. The usefulness of fractal, however, has not been fully appreciated among Korean academic societies, especially in ecological and limnological fields. We attempt to address three points in this study. First, we introduce the concept and dimension of fractal and review relevant research approaches, especially with respect to ecological and limnological phenomena. Second, we explore possible applications of fractal to some aspects of geography and land use characteristics in South Korea. For the analyses of fractal dimensions, we used data published in other studies previously and collected for this study. Data were analyzed by a perimeter/area method of fractal dimension for the spatial distribution of global solar radiation and leaf area index, and the movement of wild boars in forested landscapes of mid-eastern Korea. The same approach was also applied to the water channel of a hypothetical river and the shape of reservoirs in Yongin, Kyunggi Province. Finally, we discuss the results and key issues to consider when a fractal approach is employed in ecology and limnology.

Yin Yang theory is the first and the last one to interpret diseases apply to treatment in oriental medicine. So it is regarded as the way of heaven and earth, the discipline of all things, the origin of change, the beginning of giving birth and death, the source of spirit. These regulatory passages are needed to compare with western medical physiology and analyzed whether it has scientific bases or not. The Yin Yang theory of traditional oriental medicine are summerized from the descriptions of Scripture of Documents, Ying Wei theory of Huangdi Neijing. Meanwhile up-to-date neurobiological and molecular genetic theories on circadian physiology are reviewed in western medicine. Sunshine is transferred through RGC to SCN, herein the central circadian rhythm is made by zeitgeber and interaction of melatonin secreted from pineal body and orexin from mp pan of hypothalamus. So HPA axis is activated and controlled under the circadian rhythm and affects peripheral tissues and cells of whole body through glucocorticoid hormones. First of all, the circadian rhythm makes the basic patterns of human life in biological and sociological meaning. It is almost same context with the record of the Scripture of Documents. Also the Ying Qi and Wei Qi is basically same with the sleep-awake mechanism, that is melatonin/orexin signal or per/clk/bmal/cry genes with circadian activation and activity of each organ's physiological function. Conclusively it can be said that Yin Yang is a priori principle of living things and the beginning of giving birth and death for activation of them biologically, as is described in Huangdi Neijing.
Sixty medicinal and food plants native to Korea were mainly selected with old traditional habit and antioxidant activity was investigated. The 80% EtOH extracts of sixty medicinal and food plants were screened for antioxidant activity. Antioxidant activity was measured by the TBA (Thiobarbituric acid), DPPH (1, 1-Diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl), SOD (superoxide dismutase) which was evaluated by the nitro blue tetrazolium(NBT) reduction method. Among sixty plants, black Glycine max(87. 3%) and Solanum nigrum (80.6%) exhibited the highest antioxidant activity by TBA and DPPH methods, respectively. Also, 10 species extracts including black Glycine max showed the high activity value in these two methods. The SOD characteristics on black Glycine max seed extracts which showed the highest SOD activity (53.5%) exhibited four major SODs; two Cu/ZnSODs and two FeSODs. However, Adenophaora vertidllata which showed lowest SOD value (10.4%) had only Cu/Zn SOD. No varietal differences in the high SOD value were detected in the Cu/Zn SOD isozyme patterns.

Young adults are not met adequately by the traditional public library service patterns, being compared for children and adults even though they belong to the main user groups in number. Adolescence is a unique developmental stage distinct from childhood and adulthood and it is fair to say that today's young adults face complex present and confusing future. Projects are made to address the full spectrum of the young adults needs and the important role of public libraries as partners to solve the social youth problems in the USA. The library professional organizations issued young adult service guidelines, recommendations, and manuals to assist public libraries to offer good service programs to young adults. This paper provides the basics of young adult services in the public libraries to help Korean public libraries acknowledge the importance of young adult services and improve the framework of young adult services.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the dweller's housing needs through the connection between dwellers' living pattern and space usage. The objectives were (1) to examine how to eat and cook in the eating and cooking spaces, (2) to examine how to alter the original housing, (3) to research the dwellers' housing needs for the eating and cooking spaces, and the changing process of dwellers' housing needs, and (4) to classify the type of eating and cooking spcaces. The results of this study were (1) there were changed in eating pattern of space usage according to the season. The eating activities were a Korean living pattern : sitting on the floor and eating at the BAB SANG. (2) There was a difference in the pattern of space usage and the activity for main cooking and KIM CHI. (3) AN BANG (eating space for winter) as well as MARU (eating space for summer) has changed to a larger space. (4) By the changing of living patterns, BU AUK (a main cooking space ) has showed a various alternations: function, dimension of space, facilities, floor materials and floor level. (5) The dwellers' housing needs for eating space were a multipurpose room, and a dining kitchen of western living pattern (using a dining table and chairs) with the present changing life styles. (6) The dwellers' housing needs for cooking space were a multipurpose room of working area, a seperation of heating area, a western living pattern, a plan of flat fllor level and a dining kitchen. (7) BU AUK of eating and cooking spaces was classified into 4 types: a traditional type, a mixing type, a modernized type, and a western type.

This research investigated the needs analysis on consumers of fine dust masks to effectively develop a design prototype. Data were collected through focus group interviews on 32 individuals who have used fine dust masks. As a result, there is a new demand by consumers for technology based design changes that better fit the nose and face. Consumers preferred the smell and feel of traditional Korean paper. Young adults expressed the importance of masks that can be used for protection as well as fashion. The prototype improved the drawbacks of existing models using an origami-inspired design in a variety of colors, patterns and in sizes that are customized to fit the wearer. The proposed prototype is made of Dak felt fibers and jersey materials. It is characterized by downward-facing ear bands made of polyurethane to improve the fit around the ears and chin to more effectively block incoming air. The mask is foldable and has a crease that goes along the chin to increase the amount of enclosed space against the face making it easier to breathe compared to existing mask designs.

Late blight, caused by the hemibiotrophic oomycete pathogen Phytophthora infestans, has been the most important disease limiting potato production worldwide. P. infestans undergo major population shifts in agricultural systems via the successive emergence and migration of asexual lineages. The phenotypic and genotypic bases of these selective sweeps are largely unknown but management strategies need to adapt to reflect the changing pathogen population. Here, we used molecular markers to divide the 86 South Korea isolates into six clonal lineages: KR_1_A1, KR_2_A2, SIB-1, US-11, SIB-1 like, and KR-2 like. We documented the emergence of a new lineage, termed SIB-1 like, and KR-2 like, and their rapid replacement of other lineages to exceed 35% of the pathogen population across South Korea. Genome analyses of the Korean P. infestans populations revealed extensive genetic polymorphism, particularly in effector genes. Importantly, SIB-1 like isolates carry an intact Avr8 effector gene that triggers resistance in potato carrying the corresponding R immune receptor gene R8 cloned from Solarium demissum. These findings point toward a strategy for deploying genetic resistance to mitigate the impact of the SIB-1 like lineage and illustrate how pathogen population monitoring, combined with genome analysis, informs the management of devastating disease epidemics. Further study is being done on pathogenicity of the SIB-1 like isolates on cultivated potatoes and changes in expression patterns of disease effector genes within the SIB-1 like isolates
