  • In modern society, designers started feeling moral and social responsibility in the aspect of environment as a position of suggesting something new. Rather than creating another waste to make something innovative, the concept of Upcycling which is about adding design or utilization to the existing recyclable materials to raise their value to products or art works has started settling down. Among them, there have been various researches on the use of offcut waste to be dumped. Such use of waste can be found in Jogakbo (patchwork), one of our traditional boudoir crafts. This could be connected to the concept of the modern Upcycling in the aspect of giving new values to the wasted pieces of fabric through needlework. Therefore, this study suggested Stitch work as new Upcycling furniture by seeking for the common connections between Upcycling and traditional Jogakbo, and then reinterpreting them in the same viewpoint. It was an opportunity not only to rediscover 'the esthetics of waste' by changing the awareness of 'behavior of dumping', but also to reinterpret or reconsider the tradition. Based on this, it is expected to continuously have new attempts to use offcut waste for eco-friendly design in the future, and also to have opportunities to seek for new directions of Upcycling to rediscover new values through the revaluation of valuelessness.

철산화물 안료 원료와 번조조건에 따른 철화분청사기의 유약 발색 연구 (Study on Color Formation of Cheolhwa Buncheong Stoneware Glaze by Pigment Raw Materials of Iron Oxides and Firing Conditions)

  • 본 연구는 전통적인 철화분청사기 안료를 재현하기 위하여 국내산 자철석과 점토, 비가소성 원료를 혼합하여 재현시편을 제작하고, 발색이 양호한 30개의 시편들을 과학적으로 분석함으로써 유약의 발색특성을 알아보고자 하였다. 안료의 주원료인 자철석은 1,200℃의 환원 환경에서 짙은 흑색으로 발색하는 안료이나, 부가적으로 첨가되는 석회 성분과 반응하여 1,230℃ 산화 환경에서는 녹황색 계열로 변색된다. 적철석은 소성 온도 및 환경에 크게 영향을 받지 않으나 Fe를 10 wt% 이상 함유한 점토와 혼합하였을 때는 짙은 흑색으로 발색한다. 안료의 유동성은 R2O3/RO2 값에 의해 결정되며, 이는 발색에도 영향을 미친다. 미세조직 관찰에서 안료의 입자크기와 소성 환경에 따라 유약층의 발색과 철산화물 결정들이 일부 다른 양상을 보인다. 자철석을 원료로 한 안료는 1,200℃ 산화 환경에서는 유약층과 분장토의 경계면에 철산화물이 응집체 형태로 존재하며, 흑갈색으로 발색하지만, 환원 환경 소성에서는 철산화물의 응집체가 존재하지 않고 유약층에 균질하게 분포하며, 짙은 흑색으로 발색한다. 반면, 적철석을 기반으로한 안료는 산화 환경에서 유약층내 수지상 조직을 형성하며, 흑색으로 발색한다.

  • 1960년대의 한국현대공예계를 발아기로 볼 때 '70년대는 성장 및 개화기라고 할만한 시기이다. 정부의 문예중홍정책, 수출정책, 관광진흥정책은 공예 발전의 적극적 요인으로 작용한다. 공예전공자들의 해외유학과 귀국이 빈번해지기 시작할 뿐만 아니라 해외 공예품의 국내 전시 (특히 도예전)가 빈번히 이루어져 큰 자극제가 된 시기이다. '70년대 중반기에는 국립현대미술관과 문예진흥원이 국내최고의 대규모 공예전(초대전)을 개최하여 공예에 대한 인식을 새롭게 하며, 특히 전국의 각대학에 공예 및 디자인학과가 우후죽순처럼 신설되어 30대의 공예가들이 대학강단에 대거 진출하여 교육게 종사하게 되고 그들이 중심이 되어 결성한 많은 공예단체들과 대학에서 새로 배툴된 신진 공예가들의 동문 단체가 많이 등장하여 활발한 전시활동을 벌여 현대공예계를 활성화시킨다. 전통공예의 중요성에 대한 인식이 보편화되기 시작하며, 오브제적 서구공예 경향과 전통적 실용공예의 경향이 양립되어가고 수공예와 기계(산업)공예 사이의 갈등이 산업디자인의 발전 와중에서 심화되기 시작한다. 따라서 공예의 이념 정립이 서서히 이루어지기 시작한다. 따라서 공예의 이념 정립이 서서히 이루어지기 시작한 시기가 된다. 따라서 '70년대는 한국현대공예의 급속한 성장이 이루어져 꽃이 피는 시기라고 말할 수 있다.

  • A rational and logical sense of design often found in modernism(including minimalism) sometime deal with the criticism that such characteristics which derived from those of modernism, lack emotion31 qualities(arises from human feelings). It consequently took them to adopt traditional designs in the past, creating such conditions that constantly escapes from‘present’ one and back to the‘new’. This mode develops a trend in current interior design which decorative elements such as art work: traditional arts, folk crafts, flowers and green are much evident. Thus, using many decorative elements of the past(what was once banned since modernism), brings up the interesting point of view that needs to be discussed a new decorative trend if today's interior design. It will approach by comparing significances of past decorative expressions with present through which investigation, will show a better understanding of recent characteristics in interior designing, a.k.a, a current trend since minimalism, embracing important qualities of culture, ecology and people - against today's less-inspired, standardizing spaces.

염색집성목을 이용한 목상감 재료의 개발에 관한 연구 (A Study on Development of Inlay Made from Dyed-Gathered Wood)

  • Inlay is a high technique of inlaying patterns on the surface of crafts and widely used transcending time and place at various hand crafting area. Inscribed pattern technique using rare materials in the area have been used by the artisans of artistic flair and functionality and its value is also highly regarded from ancient to modern and inherits and is being developed today. Existing inlay technique, however, has not been spread out because it needs craftsman's skill based on the handcraft and inscribed materials are very rare to use. This paper aims to replace natural wood Sanggam materials for traditional furniture patterns such as Samho Jang, Ohho Jang, Seongtoenoe Moon, Gyeopgwinoe Moon and wood inlay text like Soo (Long life), Bok (Luck), Kang (Peace), Ryoung (Relaxed) and gammadion cross pattern. Gathered black, yellow and white color dyed wood using power tools can replace rare natural inlay materials through reliable and standardized supply. Dyed-gathered inlay materials can easily replace wood inlay materials, therefore, attempt to create an improved direction regarding materials and fabrication techniques in order to make traditional or contemporary artistic furniture to be produced.

해양 목포시의 상징 모티브를 이용한 생활문화상품 디자인개발 (A Development of Living Cultural Products Design Using Symbol of a Maritime Mokpo City)

  • This study aims to examine current status of cultural products in Mokpo city and their problems and develop cultural products design suitable to this situation. Cultural products in Mokpo sold here are made from China and have lower quality or traditional crafts and folkcrafts which can be purchased anywhere in Korea and they are not enough to show identity or image of Mokpo city. So I mixed the logos of 'mokpo city' and 'national maritime museum' based on main motive of 'modern Korean ship and shipbuilding tools' held by 'National Maritime Museum' and 'Goebukseon (turtle ship)' and 'Hanseon' which are suitable to the image of maritime culture as cultural products advocated by Mokpo city and developed one design style for print. This design is applied to T-shirts, necktie, cap, cushion and mug. Silk print, transfer print and needlework techniques are applied to each item and the whole cultural products have design of set concept. It is a case of applying modern product marketing technique to our cultural products not a design for only one item, is aimed to recreate spiritual and cultural value that a region has as daily goods to be used by general consumers and show the chance and possibility to complement shortcomings of existing cultural products and develop traditional culture having locality.

규방문화 침선구의 조형성을 활용한 장신구 작품 연구 (A Study on Personal Ornaments Arts by utilizing Formative Characteristics of Sewing Kits of Gybang Culture)

  • 인류는 끊임없이 도구를 만들어 사용하였다. 이것은 인류의 역사가 창조적으로 유지되고 발달되어 왔다는 것을 말한다. 인간은 보다 더 나은 삶을 영위하기 위하여 문명적 발전과 더불어 미적 욕구의 충족을 위한 조형성 추구 등 문화적 개발에도 끊임없이 노력해 왔다. 규방용품은 지극히 여성적이고 한국적인 정서를 담고 있으며 한 문화, 예술의 한 장르로서도 평가 되고 있다. 규방공예는 당시의 사회적, 문화적, 종교적 배경을 바탕으로 독자적이고 독특한 조형미를 형성되어 있으며, 여인들의 벗이라고 할 수 있는 침선구는 연인들의 희 노 애 락 속에서 삶의 모습과 정신세계가 문화적 깊이를 갖는 예술적 정서를 나타내고 있다. 여인들의 시대적 삶의 바탕으로 동고동락했던 침선구의 조형적 이미지, 융합적 결합 및 조화를 통한 장신구로 연관하여 재현시킴으로써 보다 구체적이고 현대적인 감각을 표현할 수 있으리라 의도하여 출발 그 가능성을 다각적으로 모색코자 하였다. 이와 같이 여인의 체취와 정신적 염원이 담긴 규방용품 중 침선구 중심으로 그 특성과 조형성, 융합적 조화, 단아함, 섬세함, 미적 아름다움을 재발견하고 전통 문화 예술의 우수성과 미적 가치를 장신구로 재인식 할 수 있는 계기가 되길 기대한다.

Non-Gaussian analysis methods for planing craft motion

  • Unlike the traditional displacement type vessels, the high speed planing crafts are supported by the lift forces which are highly non-linear. This non-linear phenomenon causes their motions in an irregular seaway to be non-Gaussian. In general, it may not be possible to express the probability distribution of such processes by an analytical formula. Also the process might not be stationary or ergodic in which case the statistical behavior of the motion to be constantly changing with time. Therefore the extreme values of such a process can no longer be calculated using the analytical formulae applicable to Gaussian processes. Since closed form analytical solutions do not exist, recourse is taken to fitting a distribution to the data and estimating the statistical properties of the process from this fitted probability distribution. The peaks over threshold analysis and fitting of the Generalized Pareto Distribution are explored in this paper as an alternative to Weibull, Generalized Gamma and Rayleigh distributions in predicting the short term extreme value of a random process.

민박농가 농특산물 포장디자인 현황분석 및 개선방안 (Improvement by Survey Analysis on the Package Design for Agricultural Products of Farm Stay)

  • Recently the package design for agricultural product of farm stay is great interests for increasing the income of farmers and villages as it may fulfill the sensible needs of consumers who experience rural culture and farm stay. This paper presents the status of the package design for agricultural product of farm stay and proposed improvements to the package design as following; 1)to diversify the packaging capacity, 2)to develop the cultural products to applicate the traditional crafts technique, 3)to provide institutional strategies for presenting the identity of farm or village, 4)to develop the education program about package design. We sampled fifty pilot farms or villages, analyse the package design of them and questionnaire surveyed farmers and managers in order to find problems and suggest improvements.

루이 드 스와송의 에워싼 주택배치 유형 해석 (An Analysis of the Enclosed Housing Cluster Type of Louis de Soissons)

  • Welwyn Garden City benefits from the greater design cohesion and management of development which gave it a more distinctive 'brand image' almost from the outset than its older garden city(Letchworth, Hampstead). Its planner, Louis de Soissons, brought a more obvious sense of traditional formal urbanism to the design of the second garden city. This was rather different to the distinctive but rather more informal arts and crafts approach of Raymond Unwin. Here it attempts to analyze how they greatly and firmly established the concept of Housing Group in the residential design, and what similar elements between Unwin and de Soissons in the New Town planning. It is pointed out that the Housing Group theory is composed of recognizing urban life as totality, and group planning theory, and that they definitely originated a new technique in the residential area. It is analyzed that the syntactic relations between the group planning theory and enclosed housing cluster designs in the English garden city are epitomized in Welwyn Garden City.
