One of the obstructing factors against managing large-scaled dairy farm in Korea has been heavy labor requirement for feeding dairy cows. A tractor attached TMR mixer was developed to reduce the cost and to provide economic benefit in this research. The TMR mixer was designed to have a feeding capacity of 35 heads at a batch with various functioning systems of paddle type mixer, cutter and grinder, delivery conveyor, weighing console, power transmission train, and mounting trailer. The maximum power required during the mixing operarion was 26.3 kw(P.T.O), readily available from 32kw-rated tractors, which had been widely used in Korea. Low coefficient of variation(14.0%) revealed an uniform mixing performance of the mixer. The mixer can also be used in compost mixing as well as concentrates and roughage.

We performed shape optimization of an anti-vibration rubber assembly which is used in the field option cabin of agricultural tractors to improve the vibration isolation capability. To characterize the hyper-elastic material property of rubber, we performed uniaxial and biaxial tension tests and used the data to calibrate the material model applied in the finite element analyses. We conducted a field test to characterize the input excitation from the tractor and the output response at the cabin frame. To account for the nonlinear behavior of rubber, we performed static analyses to derive the load-displacement curve of the anti-vibration rubber assembly. The stiffness of the rubber assembly could be calculated from this curve and was input to the harmonic analyses of the cabin. We compared the results with the test data for verification. We utilized Taguchi's parameter design method to determine the optimal shape of the anti-vibration rubber assembly and found two distinct shapes with reduced stiffness. Results show that the vibration at the cabin frame was reduced by approximately 35% or 47.6% compared with the initial design using the two optimized models.
The main purpose of this report is to analyse the utilization results of farm machinery, farm mechanization rate and influences on the farm household economy. These results are summarized as follows : 1) The annual working days of major farm machinery are from 34.3 to 68.8 days for power tillers and tractors ; 7.9 to 8.5 days for rice transplanters ; 3.6 to 6.9 days for binders ; and, from 18.6 to 20.6 days for combines. Also income and expenditures of the farm management reveals al surplus in major farm machinery except for binders. 2) The popularization rate of major farm machinery is currently low, reaching the level of the early 1970's in Japan and the level of the early 1980's in Taiwan for rice transplanters and harvesters respectively. 3) The farm mechanization rate is 81.7% in plowing & levelling, 66.3% in rice transplanting, 87.5% in pest and disease control, 62.1% in harvesting and 12.5% in drying. However the farm mechanization rate of rice transplanting, harvesting and drying still remains at a low level. 4) The composition rates of farm machinery and implements are 10.2% in farm management expenditures (23.6% in Japan) and 13.2% in fixed capitals (29.4% in Japan) which still reflect a low level, and below that of the 1970's in Japan. From these analysis results, farm mechanization contributes to the improvement of farm management. Nevertheless, the popularization status and mechanization rate are still at a low level in korea. Therefore, it is deemed desirable to furthure promote effective utilization methods and guide farmers in higher safety utilization and management technology.
Gear reducers are widely used for various agricultural machinery applications such as greenhouses, tractors, and agricultural vehicles. However, thermal deformation and surface pitting at gear tooth flank frequently occur in gear reducers due to high torque. Thus, surface heat treatment of gears is required to improve wear and fatigue resistance. The objective of this study was to simulate the load capacity of the agricultural gear reducer. The simulation was performed for the following three surface heat treatment methods: untreated gears, nitriding heat treatment, and induction hardening method, those mostly used for agricultural gear reducers. The load capacity of the gear reducer was simulated using the safety factor, limit bending stress, and limit contact stress of the gear. The simulation of the load capacity was conducted using KISSsoft commercial software for gear analysis. The main results of simulation test were as follows: first, the nitriding heat treatment resulted in the highest safety factor for bending stress, which was increased about 77% from those of the untreated gears. Second, the induction hardening was the highest safety factor for contact stress, which was increased about 150% from those of the untreated gears. The safety factor for contact stress of the induction hardening was increased about 64% from those of the nitriding heat treatment. The study result suggested that the surface heat treatments could enhance load capacity and that the method of surface heat treatment should be determined based on simulation results for appropriate use scenarios.
The purpose of this study is to develop Korean-style tractors of international comp etitive advantage which satisfy consumers' needs based on the research of large size ones. The overall process of this study is to generate appropriate design process and to apply quantitative analysis method to each steps of it and finally to suggest objective product design development system. For this, we firstly selected important trac -tor design concepts from the analysis of current market and consumer perception, next did conjoint analysis with the extract -ed design attributes and attribute levels. Finally, we decided preferred designs of ea -ch segments based on conjoint analysis. Here we selected only one most preferred tractor design of all due to narrow domest -ic market situation. This study may contribute to the customer oriented design development with the appli cation to many other fields of design. Also, it may contribute to all design related not only academic fields but to practitional fields.
Suitable rapeseed cultivation techniques of domestic agriculture are essential for stable security, supply and demand of rapeseed. This research developed a rapeseed seeder for bio-diesel and analyzed the seeding performance improving an existent granule fertilizer applicator. The relational expression of metering groove size and discharge rate per time displayed high correlation with a coefficient of determination of 0.988. Also, the scattering types were analyzed by forwarding speed and discharge rate. Validity application width was decided as 7.0 m by analyzing application uniformity at application widths of 7.6 m, 6.6 m, 5.6 m. All average coefficients of variation values were less than 20%. The best application uniformity was obtained in the condition of a work speed of 1.3 m/s and a sowing rate of 19.0 g/s. It was better average coefficient of variation values under 10% at superposition application of rapeseed seeder. Also, scattering amount rates of right and left were within 0.89${\sim}$1.0.
In order to solve the shortage of roughage supply for dairy farm in Korea, winter cereal forage production after harvesting of rice in the fallow paddy field is studied. This study consist of two parts. One is the model development of the mechanized production which was already reported at the preview paper. This is the 2nd parts of the study. Also, the mechanized production model for cereal forage production in winter was reported in the previous study. In this paper, coverage area and mechanized wrap silge production cost are analyzed and compared to the other available feeds in Korea. Results of the research are summarized as follows; The coverage area for the winter cereal wrap silage production system in Korea is estimated to be 33.7 ha in case of working with a tractor and a set of implements. If two or three tractors are available, the coverage area is estimated to be 68.0 and 101.3 ha, respectively. The break even point (BEP) of the farming size is analyzed as 10 ha and its production(operating) cost is estimated to be 317 to 443 won/TDN-kg at the BEP point. The cost is lowered to 182 won/TDN-kg at 100ha-working, and is much lower compared with prices of imported feeds of 360∼600 won/TDN-kg. Therefore, winter cereal wrap silage model is judged to be feasible and desirable for a large scale production of forage in winter fallow paddy field.

Purpose: This study derived the consumed power and load characteristics of a tillage operation performed in an upland field located in Seomyeon, Chuncheon, Rep. Korea, where potatoes and cabbages were cultivated in two crops. Methods: A plow and rotavator were mounted on a tractor with 23.7 kW of rated power to perform the tillage operation. The work conditions were determined, considering the actual working speed of the tillage operation performed by the local farmers. The power consumption of the rear axle, engine, and power take-off (PTO), PTO torque, and tractive force were measured under each work condition. The consumed power and load characteristics were analyzed using their average values. Results: The rotary-tillage operation consumed more engine power than the plow operation for the same tractor-transmission gear condition. The PTO in the rotary-tillage operation and the rear axle in the plow operation consumed the most power. The power consumption of the engine and the PTO for the rotary-tillage operation tended to increase as the transmission gears of the tractor and the PTO became higher. In contrast, the rear-axle power consumption was insignificant. In addition, the PTO torque tended to rise as the tilling pitch increased. For the plow operation, the drawbar power and the rear axle power accounted for 68-90% of the engine power. The engine and rear axle power, drawbar power, and tractive force tended to rise as the working speed increased. Conclusions: The power consumption and load characteristics differed for the plow and rotary-tillage operations. They may also differ depending on the soil conditions. Therefore, the power consumption and load characteristics in various work environments and regions should be analyzed, and reflected in the design of tractors and working implements. The results derived from this study can be used as a reference for such designs.
A torsional damper comprised of two stage pre-dampers was used to reduce the rattle noise generated in the PTO gear box of a direct engine-PTO driveline of agricultural tractors. It was designed and mounted to the engine flywheel to reduce the torque fluctuation-induced speed variations at the driving gears in the PTO gearbox, which were found to be main cause of the rattle noise. The effects of a hysteresis torque and a torsional stiffness of the damper on the speed variation were analyzed using an 11 degree of freedom non-linear model of the damped PTO driveline. The torsional damper was represented by a single degree of freedom model with 7 parameters. Under a constant hysteresis torque, velocity variation was reduced with decrease in the torsional stiffness of the damper. The velocity variation was also decreased with decrease in the hysteresis torque under a constant torsional stiffness. Optimum values of the torsional stiffness and hysteresis torque were obtained by the model simulation for the PTO driveline under the study. When the optimum values of the damper were used, the sound pressure level of the rattle noise was reduced by 81%, resulting in a reduction of 15dB(A). The optimum damper also reduced the engine speed variation, resulting in a reduction of 80% at the driving gears in the PTO gearbox. The torsional damper showed a good performance in reducing the rattle noise caused by the speed variation in the direct engine-PTO driveline.
The objective of this study was to analyze a stability of sideways overturning of a forwarder developed by the Forestry Research Institute. The stability analysis was conducted using a multibody dynamic analysis program. VisualNastran Desktop. A solid model of the forwarder was constructed and its physical properties such as mass, mass center and mass moment of inertia were determined on 3D CAD modeler of the Solid Edge 8.0. 3D simulations of sideways overturning of the forwarder were also performed on the Visual Nastran using the solid model when it traveled across the slope and traversed over an up-hill side obstacle. Stability comparison between a bogie-wheeled and a 6-wheeled forwarders was also made and found that the bogie-wheeled forwarder was more stable than the 6-wheeled one on slopes. The safety speeds of the forwarder predicted by the simulation under various conditions can be used as a guideline for safe operations of forwarders in mountainous area. The technique of using a solid model for the sability analysis can also be applied successfully to other vehicles like agricultural tractors, loaders and construction equipments.
