Single-Chip Microprocessor Control for Switched Reluctance Motor Drive

  • The paper introduces a switched reluctance motor drive system based on an 80C31 and an Intel 80C 196KB single-chip microprocessor control. Advance schemes are used in turn-on and turn-off angles with the power converter's main switches during traction and regenerative braking. The principles of traction speed control and braking torque control are given. The hardware and software patterns in the 80c31 and the Intel 80C196KB single-chip microprocessor control system are also presented.

차량 모델을 이용한 구동력 제어 시스템 (TCS)의 제어 방법 개발 (Development of a Control Method of Traction Control System Using Vehicle Model)

  • A traction control systems (TCSs) composed of either a wheel slip controller or a throttle valve controller or an integrated controller of both systems are proposed in this study. To validatethe dynamic characteristics of a vehicle and TCS, a full car model that can simulate the responses of both front wheel drive (2WD) and four wheel drive (4WD) vehicle is also developed. The wheel slip controller uses a sliding mode control scheme and the throttle valve is controlled by a PID controller. The results shows that tHe brake TCS and the engine TCS achieve rapid acceleration, and reduce slip angle on slippery road. When a vehicle is cornering and accelerating maneuver with the brake or engine TCS, understeer or oversteer occur, depending on the driving conditions. The integrated TCS prevents most of these problems and improves the stability and controllability of the vehicle.

On effects of rail fastener failure on vehicle/track interactions

  • Rail support failure is inevitably subjected to track geometric deformations. Due to the randomness and evolvements of track irregularities, it is naturally a hard work to grasp the trajectories of dynamic responses of railway systems. This work studies the influence of rail fastener failure on dynamic behaviours of wheel/rail interactions and the railway tracks by jointly considering the effects of track random irregularities. The failure of rail fastener is simulated by setting the stiffness and damping of rail fasteners to be zeroes in the compiled vehicle-track coupled model. While track random irregularities will be transformed from the PSD functions using a developed probabilistic method. The novelty of this work lays on providing a method to completely reveal the possible responses of railway systems under jointly excitation of track random irregularities and rail support failure. The numerical results show that rail fastener failure has a great influence on both the wheel/rail interactions and the track vibrations if the number of rail fastener failure is over three. Besides, the full views of time-dependent amplitudes and probabilities of dynamic indices can be clearly presented against different failing status.

A Study on the Design Procedure of the Eight Pole Magnetic Bearings for the Inner-rotor and the Outer-rotor Type

  • This paper presents design procedure of the magnetic bearings used for high-speed electric machines and flywheel energy storage systems. Magnetic bearing can be categorized by inner-rotor type and outer-rotor type according to the position of the rotary disc. These two types are applicable based on application environments such as application space, required attraction force, and controllability. Magnetic bearing is generally designed based on the ratio (geometrical coefficient or geometrical efficiency) of pole width to rotor journal radius but proper ratio is only decided by the analysis. This is the difficulty of the magnetic bearing design. In this paper, proper design technology of the inner-rotor type and outer-rotor-type eight pole magnetic bearings is introduced and compared with the FEM analysis results, which verifies the proposed design procedure is suitable to be applied to the design of the magnetic bearings for the industrial applications and flywheel energy storage system.

  • The traction drive system for the urban transit Rubber-tire system is described in this paper. To control the magnitude and frequency of the output voltage of induction motor transiently, the vector control strategy is generally used. But in case of the traction drive system for the railway vehicle, it is difficult to use the vector control caused by the one-pulse mode in the high speed region. Therefore, this paper proposes the control strategy combined the vector control in the low speed region and the slip frequency control in the high speed region. And also, the overmodulation PWM method is discussed to make the change to the one-pulse mode softly. The performance of the Proposed traction drive system is verified by the MATLAB simulation results.

Controllable Harmonic Generating Method for Harmonic Impedance Measurement of Traction Power Supply Systems Based on Phase Shifted PWM

  • The harmonic impedance characteristic of a traction power supply system (TPSS) is necessary for taking actions to suppress the high-order harmonic resonances caused by AC electric locomotives. This paper proposes a controllable harmonic generating method (CHGM) for measuring the TPSS harmonic impedance by injecting harmonic disturbances of different frequencies and amplitudes into the TPSS. This method applies phase shifted pulse-width modulation (PSPWM) and ensures that the undesired sideband harmonics can be negligible while the desired harmonic is both controllable and adjustable. Multiple harmonics can be emitted at the same time. The implementation of the method is also presented. Simulations are carried out to validate the performance of the proposed method. Finally, experimental results on a 5 H-bridge converters platform verified the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed method.

  • The dynamics of the vehicle system has highly nonlinear components such as an engine, a torque converter and variable road condition. This thesis proposes a Fuzzy Logic Algorithm that shows better control performance than Antiwindup PI in the highly nonlinear vehicle system. Traction Control System(TCS), which adjusts throttle valve opening by Fuzzy Logic Algorithm improves vehicle drivability, steerability and stability when vehicle is starting and cornering. When a throttle valve is opened at large degree, Fuzzy Logic Algorithm shows better performances like a small settling time and a small oscillation than Antiwindup PI in simulation. The decreased desired slip ratio improves steerability in the simulation when a vehicle is cornering. The Fuzzy Logic Algorithm has been tested by a 1/5-scale vehicle for tracking the constant desired velocity.

  • This study presents a simulation of the traction return current based on $2{\times}25kV$ power supply system in order to determine the impedance bond intensity of impulse type track circuit on the electrified Gyeongbu line. The results of the simulation enables us to measure the precise intensity of catenary current that returns to the substation through KTX (Korean Train Express) operated by $2{\times}25kV$ power supply system with common earth network. The combination of $2{\times}25kV$ and common earth network established on the electrified Gyeongbu line for the first time in Korea.   • This paper proposes a regeneration inverter system, which can regenerate the excessive power form the DC bus line to the AC source for traction systems. The proposed regeneration inverter system for DC traction can reduce harmonics which is a characteristic of the AC current source. The simulation was composed as a prototype model[3.7kW]. Finally, it is shown that the inverter can successfully operate in regeneration mode.

  • The aging of the insulation reduces the electrical and mechanical strength of the insulation. At same point, a voltage surge or mechanical shock from a traction motor start will fracture or break down the insulation. To achieve the expected life usually requires extensive laboratory evaluation of the insulation systems and the use of accelerated aging tests. There are several nondestructive test available for checking. the condition of motor insulation, the probable extent of aging, and the rate of which aging is taking place. So the insulation characteristics of stator coil were each analyzed by measurement of dielectric loss($tan{\delta}$), capacitance and partial discharge. The method of diagnosis is able to analyze the aging condition and predict the life of the traction motor.
