  • This paper studied on the VVVF Inverter for 1C4M propulsion system of railway traction. The paper includes the comparison along a VVVF Inverter electric power conversion element for an electric railcar(GTO, IGBT). These inverters are composed of high power IGBTs and controlled by compact control units. The stack is simplified and optimized by using plate bus and IGBT driver units of hybrid-type.

  • This paper describes about the field test of IGBT VVVF inverter for the propulsion system. The 1650kV class IGBT VVVF inverter has been developed. Therefore the field test is performed in SMG 6 Line to confirm its the reliability and performance. The train consists of 4M4T and the electrical equipment for field test are as follows : VVVF inverter 4 sets 16 traction motors and 3 SIVs The propulsion system which have the excellent acceleration/deceleration and the jerk chracteristics as well as starting ability on slope are taken through the field test.

A Study on the Applicability of the Conventional TTX Propulsion System on the High-speed Propulsion System for a Deep-underground GTX

  • In order to develop the deep-underground GTX (Great Train eXpress) in domestic, the running performance analysis of the propulsion system by a variety of route condition must be carried out before studying the specification and the development of the high-speed propulsion system with inverter and traction motor. Then it is necessary to study the running resistance properties of the high-speed traction system for the variety of tunnel type and vehicle organization method at first. In addition, the properties of the power requirement of the traction motors needed to maintain the balanced speed of the high-speed traction system are next studied. We need to study properties of the emergency braking distance caused by the highest operation speed of the high-speed traction system and present the fundamental design technologies to develop the high-speed traction system for the deep-underground GTX. Finally, the paper analyzes the applicability of the conventional Korean Tilting Train eXpress (TTX) propulsion system on the high-speed propulsion system for the deep-underground GTX.

  • This paper study on powering characteristic on speed variation of propulsion system of prototype 8200 electric locomotive propulsion system through simulation modeling. For this purpose, it being applied in the field of railway IGBT (Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor) elements are used. Converter was performed PLL (Phase-Locked Loop) control method that is used to control the phase and output voltage, and the inverter was carried an indirect vector control method to control the speed of traction motor. The results of simulation by modeling and experimental unit, we was confirmed that converter is controlled a unity power factor and output voltage by reference voltage. Also traction motor was controlled by indirect vector control and SVPWM inverter switching method very well.

  • 현재 공기제동의 문제점을 보완하기 위한 유지보수와 환경문제, 효율성, 경제성 등을 개선하기 위하여 정지에서 고속영역까지의 전 영역에서 전기 브레이크의 모든 주행 범위와 관련된 제동력을 제시하였다. 결과적으로 는 제동력의 효율과 첨단 기술은 에너지 활용을 확장 시켰으며, 본 논문을 통하여 모든 주행 범위에서의 소음이 저감되며, 유지 보수 비용의 절감 효과가 있었다. 트랙션 모터는 인버터의 최대 전압을 제어하는 고속 운전 특성 구동을 위해 트랙션 모터의 가변 속도와 트랙션 모터의 단자 전압을 가져 와야 한다. 따라서 시뮬레이션을 통한 구동 및 브레이크 변경에 대해 연구하였다.

  • There have been many changes in Subway train types since SeoulMetro opened the Line No.1 in 1974. Propulsion control device has changed many times following the generations of control method from resistance control method which uses large resistor for the traction motor control to chopping control which uses power semiconductors and finally to inverter control. Railroad vehicle propulsion control device refers to devices such as converter/inverter which supply power for subway operation, power conversion equipment like small switching-mode power supply and traction motor. In this paper, we will analyze every part of railroad vehicle propulsion control device of SeoulMetro so we can find problems in the subway operation. And we will present propulsion control device model which makes minimized failures, efficient maintenance possible when replacing railroad vehicle later. By doing this, we hope to ensure stability and improve energy efficiency to the top.

  • The battery charger for high speed trail car is very important power source for the purpose of safty and system stability. it provides control power of VVVF, CVCF, DC/DC converter and inverter for traction motor. This paper included power circuit of the ZVZCS type battery charger for high speed trail car and battery included power circuit of the ZVZCS type battery charger for high speed trail car and inverter for traction motor. This paper included power circuit of the ZVZCS type battery charger for high speed trail car an battery charging algorithm. Also the optimum parallel operation of 50Kw battery charger for high speed trail car and charging control method of Ni-Cd battery illustrates validity and effectiveness through the experiments.

  • For electric traction using a large power converter, harmonic problem in the p-ower quality and regenerating energy in side of efficiency are important. Recently, by advance in power electronics technology, some countries are considering regenerative inverter from the points of view. when the electric tractions are stopped or driven through the falling slope way, it is very useful to supply surplus energy to the power source by regenerating system in the efficient side of energy and it is very economical. these regenerating energy are supported electrical equipment through DC line. In this research, the purposes are suppressing extra DC-line voltage and saving energy generated while electric traction is been driving on the falling slope way or reducing speed for railway using a 1500V DC-voltage. Besides, the accompanied defects of current distortion, low power factor and the voltage unbalance will be solved by developing the algorism of inverter having ability to compensate current harmonic.

  • This paper presents the current-fed inverter of a TGV-K traction system with thyristor switches using phase control and commutation techniques. The current-fed inverters have two modes of operation which consist of forced commutation and natural commutation. In forced commutation mode, at speed of less than 120km/h, commutation is forced by means of the commutation capacitors and the thyristors. Above 120km/h, the thyristors operate in natural commutation mode, according to the voltages between phases of the motors. In this paper, the power conversion theory of the TGV-K traction system and the control principle of the converter and current-fed inverter are discussed.

  • When the traction motor for urban transit E.M.U is driven with VVVF controlled inverter, the insulation degradation factors on the 200 Class insulation system of VPI process are analyzed with considering dielectric, mechanical properties, thermal stability, chemical resistivity and compatibility. A new test method of complex accelerating degradation is proposed to evaluate the insulation reliability and the long-term life including harmonic loss and transient surge stress due to PWM inverter drive.
