  • In this paper, the gearless traction machine drive system using a permanent-maget motor for high-speed elevators is addressed. This application of permanent-magnet motor to the elevator traction machine enables several improvements including higher efficiency, better ride comfort, smaller size and weight, and so on. PWM boost converter is also adopted so that DC-link voltage regulation, hi-directional power flow, and controllable power factor with reduced input current harmonics are possible. To increase reliability and performance, the control board, which can include the car and group controller as well as PWM converter and inverter controller, is designed based on TMS320VC33 DSP The simulator system for high-speed elevators has been developed so that the drive system of high-speed elevator can be tested without my limitation on ride distance and the load condition. Some experimental results are given to verify the effectiveness of the developed system.

  • For ultraprecision positioning, the use of the twist roller-type friction drive is proposed. In our study, it is difficult to decrease the resolution of positioning below 100 nm when we use general servo motors. Therefore we propose the feed hive with a small lead like a the cam-roller type traction drive leadscrew and modify it more accurately. By using the semi-loop control system, the positioning resolution of the drive can be 22.4 nm, where the pulse per revolution of the motor is 655360 and the the lead is 0.734 mm.

  • This paper presents an application of SRM drive for LSEV(Low Speed Electric Vehicle). In this paper, a 5〔㎾〕 SRM for a traction of a LSEV is to design and investigate the characteristics of the drive system. The main design parameters and control strategy are given. In the control method, a current control, for the soft-starting technique at a starting operation, is adopted. In the high speed range, an angle control technique is implemented, for a high efficiency drive of SRM. Some experimental tests are executed to find the drive performances.

  • This paper introduces the design and control method of braking chopper circuit which can supply input power to ventilation inverter of traction control system. The DC input voltage from auxiliary block (static inverter) is normally used as an input of ventilation inverter. It converts DC input to AC output voltage to drive cooling fans for traction control system and traction motors. The electrical braking force is very important for high speed train to guarantee safety even though the train is running in the dead section where the pantograph voltage is not supplied. When the high speed train decelerate speed in dead section, the regenerative energy is dissipated by braking resistor. This paper proposed the braking chopper control method to implement rheostatic braking function and the appropriate chopper circuit for supplying voltage source to ventilation inverter during rheostatic braking mode. The proposed chopper circuit makes it possible for traction control system to regenerate power continuously regardless of the existence of pantograph voltage. The feasibility of proposed braking chopper control and circuit were proven by inertia load test and actual train field test.

  • This paper proposes a fuzzy logic based vector control for the gearless traction machine drive systems using a permanent-magnet synchronous motor (PMSM). The performance of the proposed Fuzzy Logic Control(FLC)-based PMSM drive are investigated and compared to those obtained from the conventional PI controll-based drive system. We have confirmed theoretically and experimentally at different dynamic operating conditions such as step change in command speed, step change in load, etc. The comparative experimental results show that the FLC is more robust and, hence, found to be a suitable replacement of the conventional Pl controller for the high-performance elevator drive system.

  • Energy recovery in the regenerative region is very important when SRM(Switched Reluctance Motor) is used in traction drive. This is because that to reduce energy loss during mechanical braking and/or to have a high efficiency drive during braking. To control excitation voltage in motor operation and regenerative voltage in the generator operation in the SRM, multi-level voltage control is effective. This paper suggests multi-level inverter which is useful for motoring and regenerative operation in SRM.

  • This paper describes a re-adhesion control method for the Korean High-Speed Train (KHST) with parallel induction motor drive. To keep a traction efficiency and to improve vehicle maintenance, the adhesion characteristics between wheel and rail are analyzed. Also the re-adhesion controller is designed as the subsystem of induction motor vector control. In order to verify performance of the proposed control techniques, the simulation is executed by train model and a downscaled re-adhesion control simulator is utilized. Both simulation and running test results show that good re-adhesion characteristics are obtained.

  • In this study, the loader was completed that has 4-wheel gear driven drivetrain of study (Ⅰ), the 4-wheel steering with power wheel type, all-wheel traction system, and joy-stick type lever for hydraulic control valve. From driving test of the developed 4WD and 4WS type loader, we obtained that the minimum circling radius and the necessary width in circling motion reduced about 40% and 33% compared with 2WS type loader. Also, all-wheel traction system could keep the tires glued to the ground with greater stability, the power steering allowed a smoother operation, and the joy-stick type lever offered easily to control. Thus, the developed loader having these functions was very fit in a small cattle shed or rugged ground.
