  • A new filtering algorithm for radar tracking is developed based on the fact that correct evaluation of the measurement error covariance can be made possible by doing it with respect to the Cartesian state vector. The new filter may be viewed as a modification of the extended Kalman filter where the variance of the range measurement errors is evaluated in an adaptive manner. The structure of the proposed filter allows sequential measurement processing scheme to be incorporated into the scheme, and this makes the resulting algorithm favorable in both estimation accuracy and computational efficiency.

  • In this paper, we propose a compact Convolutional Neural Network (CNN)-based tracker in conjunction with a particle filter architecture, in which the CNN model operates as an accurate candidates estimator, while the particle filter predicts the target motion dynamics, lowering the overall number of calculations and refines the resulting target bounding box. Experiments were conducted on the Online Object Tracking Benchmark (OTB) [34] dataset and comparison analysis in respect to other state-of-art has been performed based on accuracy and precision, indicating that the proposed algorithm outperforms all state-of-the-art trackers included in the OTB dataset, specifically, TLD [16], MIL [1], SCM [36] and ASLA [15]. Also, a comprehensive speed performance analysis showed average frames per second (FPS) among the top-10 trackers from the OTB dataset [34].

  • It is very important to predict the future position for the heavy vehicle with evasive maneuvering. In this paper, we considered for the manual image tracking system. The vehicle images are received from gyro stabilized mirror system, pass through the optical lens, processed, and displayed on the TV monitor. The operator try to lay the reticle to the center of vehicle image. When the vehicle is moving, the mirror platform (actually the line of sight) should follow the vehicle and the angular rate information is picked up from the mirror stabilized system. This rate signal should be used to predict the future vehicle position. The problem is that the visual system of the human operator is in the closed loop system. The rate signals are disturbed by the operator. In addition, there are some non linearities concerned with the control handle bar and the servo control system. The proposed Kalman filter, combined with some modifications for operator disturbance rejection, improved the predication of the future vehicle position when compared with the conventional passive filter used.

  • The probabilistic data association filter(PDAF) is known to provide better tracking performance than the standard Kalman filter(KF) in a cluttered environment. In this paper, the stability of the PDAF of Fortmann et al[7], in the presence of uncertainties with regard to the origin of measurement, is investigated. The modified Riccati equation derived by approximating two random terms with their expectations is used to prove the stability of the PDAF. A new Lyapunov function based approach, which is different from the quantitative evaluation of Li and Bar-Shalom[7], is pursued. With the assumption that the system and observation noises are bounded, specific tracking error bounds are established.

  • The optimal estimation of a bearing only target tracking problem be achieved through the solution of the Fokker-Planck equation and the Bayesian update. Recently, a nonlinear filtering algorithm using a direct quadrature method of moments in which the associated Fokker-Planck equation can be propagated efficiently and accurately was proposed. Although this approach has demonstrated its promising in the field of nonlinear filtering in several examples, the "degeneracy" phenomenon, similar to that which exists in a typical particle filter, occasionally appears because only the weights are updated in the modified Bayesian rule in this algorithm. Therefore, in this paper to enhance the performance, a more stable measurement update process based upon the update equation in the Extended Kalman filters and a more accurate initialization and re-sampling strategy for weight and abscissas are proposed. Simulations are used to show the effectiveness of the proposed filter and the obtained results are promising.

  • Object tracking in video sequences is a challenging task and has various applications. Particle filtering has been proven very successful for non-Gaussian and non-linear estimation problems. In this study, we first try to develop a color-based particle filter. In this approach, the color distributions of video frames are integrated into particle filtering. Color distributions are applied because of their robustness and computational efficiency. The model of the particle filter is defined by the color information of the tracked object. The model is compared with the current hypotheses of the particle filter using the Bhattacharyya coefficient. The proposed tracking method directly incorporates the scale and motion changes of the objects. Experimental results have been presented to show the effectiveness of our proposed system.

  • In this paper, we propose a method for vehicle tracking systems using fuzzy logic. The standard ${\alpha}$-${\beta}$ filter estimates the future target positions using fixed ${\alpha}$,${\beta}$ coefficients. We utilize the if-then fuzzy logic to make ${\alpha}$ and ${\beta}$ coefficients vary with the position. Comparisons are made in tracking vehicles using three different schemes: the standard ${\alpha}$-${\beta}$ filter, ${\alpha}$-${\beta}$ filter using fuzzy logic, and the Kalman filter.

  • The problem of maneuvering target tracking has been studied in the field of the state estimation over decades. The Kalman filter has been widely used to estimate the state of the target, but in the presence of a maneuver, its performance may be seliously degraded. In this paper, to solve this problem and track a maneuvering target effectively, DNA coding-based intelligent Kalman filter (DNA coding-based IKF) is proposed. The proposed method can overcome the mathematical limits of conventional methods and can effectively track a maneuvering target with only one filter by using the fuzzy logic based on DNA coding method. The tracking performance of the proposed method is compared with those of the adaptive interacting multiple model (AIMM) method and the GA-based IKF in computer simulations.

  • The optimal estimation of a general continuous-discrete system can be achieved through the solution of the Fokker-Planck equation and the Bayesian update. Due the high nonlinearity of the equation of motion of the system and the measurement model, it is necessary to linearize the both equation. To avoid linearization, the filter based on Fokker-Planck equation is designed. with the unscented transformation update mechanism, in which the associated Fokker-Planck equation was solved efficiently and accurately via discrete quadrature and the measurement update was done through the unscented transformation update mechanism. This filter based on the Direct Quadrature Moment of Method(DQMOM) and the unscented transformation update is applied to the bearing only target tracking problem. The proposed filter can still provide more accurate estimation of the state than those of the extended Kalman filter especially when measurements are sparse. Simulation results indicate that the advantages of the proposed filter based on the DQMOM and the unscented transformation update make it a promising alternative to the extended Kalman filter.
