This paper presents steering system requirements to ensure the stabilized lateral control of autonomous driving vehicles. The two main objectives of a lateral controller in autonomous vehicles are maintenance of vehicle stability and tracking of the desired path. Even if the desired steering angle is immediately determined by the upper level controller, the overall controller performance is greatly influenced by the specification of steering system actuators. Since one of the major inescapable traits that affects controller performance is the time delay of the steering actuator, our work is mainly focused on finding adequate parameters of high level control algorithm to compensate these response characteristics and guarantee vehicle stability. Actual vehicle steering angle response was obtained with Electric Power Steering (EPS) actuator test subject to various longitudinal velocity. Steering input and output response analysis was performed via MATLAB system identification toolbox. The use of system identification is advantageous since the transfer function of the system is conveniently obtained compared with methods that require actual mathematical modeling of the system. Simulation results of full vehicle model suggest that the obtained tuning parameter yields reduced oscillation and lateral error compared with other cases, thus enhancing path tracking performance.

This paper proposes a swing-arm type dual-stage actuator, which consists of a PZT actuator for fine motion and a VCM(voice coil motor) for coarse motion, for an SFF ODD(small form factor optical disk drive), in order to achieve fast access speed and precise track-following control. Over the past few decades there have been a lot of researches related to the VCM and dual-stage actuator. In this paper, we focus our attention on the design and control of the PZT actuator. Due to the dual cantilever structure. the PZT actuator can generate precise translational tracking motion at its tip to which an optical pickup is attached. and the effect of hysteric behavior of the PZT element is reduced. The dynamic model of the PZT actuator is derived by using the Hamilton's principle, and verified by comparing it with the experimental frequency response. The sliding mode control is designed in order to be robust against modeling uncertainties. Simulations and experimental results confirm the effectiveness of the suggested control scheme.

Trajectory tracking control porblems are described for a two-link robot manipulator with artificial rubber muscle actuators. Under the assumption that the so-called independent joint control is applied to the control system, the dynamic model for each link is identified as a linear second-order system with time-lag by the step response. Two control laws such as the feedforward and the computed torque control methods, are experimentally applied for controlling the circular trajectory of an actual robot mainpulator.

The optical disc drive has used a high NA objective lens and a shorter wavelength laser diode for high recording density. But high NA and shorter wavelength cause several margins to become short. Focusing and tracking servo has to be more accurate and active tilt compensation mechanism is also needed for coma aberration compensation. In this paper, we proposed 3-axis moving magnet type actuator. For 3-DOF motion, moving coil actuator has to equip 6 wires for supplying 3 independent signals. However, moving magnet type actuator doesn't need to change the configuration of wires because coils are in stator. So, we added tilting mechanism to 2-axis moving magnet actuator which is designed in previous research. Addition of the tilting mechanism cuts down the focusing sensitivity. So, maximization the tilting sensitivity and securing the focusing sensitivity are objectivities of this research. DOE (design of experiments) procedures of electromagnetic circuit are performed for parameter study and the optimization is also performed to maximize the tilt sensitivity. And then the final design is suggested and its performance is verified by FE simulation.

The purpose of this paper is to improve the hysteresis characteristics of a stack type piezoelectric actuator using system identification and tracking control. Recently, several printing methods that cost less and are faster than previous semiconductor processes have been developed for the production of electric paper and RFID. The system proposed in this study prints by spraying the molten metal, and consists of a nozzle, heating furnace, operating actuator, and an XYZ 3-axis stage, As an operating system, the piezoelectric(PZT) method has very valuable uses. However, the PZT actuator has a very big hysteresis characteristic due to the ferroelectric characteristics of the PZT element. This causes problems in the system position control characteristics and deteriorates the performance of the system. In this study, an investigation was conducted to improve the hysteresis characteristics of the PZT actuator that has an output displacement for the input voltage. The study proposed a inverse hysteresis model, a mathematic modeling method that can express the geometric relationship between voltage and displacement, in order to reduce the hysteresis of the PZT actuator. In addition, system identification and PID control methods were examined. Also, it was confirmed that the proposed control strategy gives good precision position control performance.

As the rate of increase in areal density of the HDD has accelerated, dynamic characteristics of the HDD actuator need to be improved with respect to the performance of the tracking servo and shock transmission. Therefore, it is important to analyze the vibration characteristic of the HDD actuator that consists of the VCM part, E-block and pivot bearing. In this paper, vibration modes of the HDD actuator are investigated the using finite element and experimental modal analyses methods. To develop a detailed finite element model, finite element models of each components of the actuator assembly are constructed and tuned to the results of the EMA. The VCM coil is modeled as an equivalent finite element model that has an orthotropic material property using auto-model updating program. Auto-model updating program with improved sensitivity based iterative method is applied to build a detailed finite element model using the result of the EMA. A detailed finite element model of the HDD actuator is then constructed and analyzed.

It is becoming more significant to develop a rotary VCM type actuator for small form factor ODD, as portables are getting more and more popularized nowadays. In this paper, the procedure of development of the actuator which is applicable to compact flash II card and is fit in the specification of BD 1X is explained. This is based on the rotary VCM type actuator, which is good for reducing thickness. Air core solenoid coil is used in order to do focusing mechanism. And the total weight is reduced by using the structure of steel-aluminium-steel triple layer, so, the stiffness is still adequate. Additionally, the tracking coil is moved next to the actuator, so the total length was reduced, then the actuator become applicable to compact flash II card. The force of Magnetic Circuit is improved by using Magnetic Circuit DOE. And flexible mode frequency improved through the DOE of structure part. Modeling was exactly done in consideration of air core solenoid coil and pivot bearing. It is confirmed that the designed model is satisfied with the specification of BD 1X and is applicable to Compact Flash II card.

This paper presents the design, fabrication, and testing results of a dual stage actuator system for a fine positioning of magnetic heads in magnetic disk drives. A novel rotary microactuator which is electrostatically driven and utilized as a secondary actuator was designed. The stator and rotor electrodes in the microactuator was revised to have the optimal shapes and hence produces much higher rotational torque compared with the conventional comb-shape electrodes. The microactuators were successfully fabricated using SoG(silicon on glass) processing technology, which is known as being cost-effective. The fabricated microactuator has the structural thickness of $45{\mu}m$ with the gap width of approximately $3{\mu}m$. The dynamic characteristic of microactuator/slider assembly was investigated, and its natural frequency and DC gain were measured to be 3.4kHz and 32nm/V, respectively. The microactuator/slider assembly was integrated into a HDD model V10 of Samsung Electronics Co. and a dual servo algorithm was tested to explore the tracking performance of dual stage actuator system where the LDV signals instead of magnetic head signals were used. Experimental results indicate that this system achieves the tracking accuracy of 30nm. This value corresponds to a track density of 85,000 track per inch(TPI), which is about 3 times greater than that of current hard disk drives.
