The algorithm for relation of contact status, track shift, and contact force caused from wheel/rail contact geometry is presented. Grafting this algorithm into a algorithm of general program analyzing mechanical system, the program for time domain simulation of railway vehicle dynamics, called CASOTD, was developed. In addition, as applied example of CASOTD, the dynamic simulation of railway vehicle running on a rail joint and a irregularly alinemented rail is done in this paper.

Most space-borne optical scanning systems adopt linear arrayconfigurations. The well-knownthree different types of space-borne sensors arealong-track line scanner, across-track linescanner, and three line scanner. To acquire accurate location information of an object on the ground withthose sensors, the exterior and interior orientation parameters are critical factors for both of space-borne and airborne missions. Since the imaging geometry of sensors mightchange time to time due to thermal influence, vibration, and wind, it is very important to analyze the Interior Orientation Parameters (IOP) effects on the ground. The experiments based on synthetic datasets arecarried out while the focal length biases are changing. Also, both high and low altitudes of the imagingsensor were applied. In case with the along-track line scanner, the focal length bias caused errors along the scanline direction. In the other case with the across-track one, the focal length bias caused errors alongthe scan line and vertical directions. Lastly, vertical errors were observed in the case ofthree-line scanner. Those results from this study will be able to provide the guideline for developing new linearsensors, so as for improving the accuracy of laboratory or in-flight sensor calibrations.
Wear and rolling contact fatigue (RCF) defects are most important causes of rail damage, and often interaction competitive at present railway track. Head check is one of rolling contact fatigue (RCF) defects, and generally occurs in mild circular curves and transition curves that are set at both ends of sharp circular curves. Wear tends to limit the crack growth of head checks by removing the material from the RCF surface. In order to clarify the conditions of the occurrence and growth of head checks, the authors measured the interacting forces between wheels and rails and the angle of attack of wheelset, and carried out contact analyses using the actual profile data of wheels and rails. The effects of the lateral force, the contact geometry, and the wear rate at rail gauge comer on the formation of head checks were also analyzed by using the worn profiles of actual wheels and rails and the data obtained by a track inspection car. Some specific range of wear rate at the gauge comer was identified as having close relation with occurrence of head checks.
Traditional three-dimensional (3-D) laser imaging systems are based on real aperture imaging technology, whose resolution decreases as the range increases. In this paper, we develop a novel 3-D imaging technique based on the synthetic aperture technology in which the imaging resolution is significantly improved and does not degrade with the increase of the range. We consider an imaging laser radar (ladar) system using the floodlight transmitting mode and multi-beam receiving mode. High 3-D imaging resolutions are achieved by matched filtering the linear frequency modulated (LFM) signals respectively in range, synthetic aperture along-track, and the real aperture across-track. In this paper, a novel 3-D imaging signal model is given first. Because of the motion during the transmission of a sweep, the Doppler shift induced by the continuous motion is taken into account. And then, a proper algorithm for the 3-D imaging geometry is given. Finally, simulation results validate the effectiveness of the proposed technique.
Tilting train allow the train to pass curve at higher speed without affecting passenger comfort. As the tilting trains run curve track about 30$\%$ higher than non-tilting trains, the centrifugal force and dynamic force will be higher. Therefore it is very important for tilting train to ensure safety against derailment, and to reduce the lateral track forces by applying light-weight design, optimized suspension design and steering mechanism. The 180 km/h Korean Tilting Train(TTX) which is now developing as a part of the Korean National R & D project, was designed and analytically verified to meet these special requirements. This paper describes the analytic study to verify the safety against derailment, especially on the wheel unloading in case of tilting actuation. The severest curve geometry and curving speed was assumed, the tilting control pattern was also assumed as trapezoidal force function applied to tilting bolster and bogie frame. For the comparison, the operation with the speed of tilting train without tilting actuation was numerically simulated and the operation with the balanced speed without tilting actuation was also numerically simulated. Through the numerical simulation of various operating case, we found that derailment quotients, wheel unloading and Q/P was not affected by tilting actuation and that the bogie of TTX was nicely designed to satisfy the safety against the derailment.
This paper describes a study of the mapping relationship between the vertical deformation of bridge structures and rail deformation of high-speed railway, taking the interlayer interactions of the bridge subgrade CRTS II ballastless slab track system (HSRBST) into account. The differential equations and natural boundary conditions of the mapping relationship between the vertical deformation of bridge structures and rail deformation were deduced according to the principle of stationary potential energy. Then an analytical model for such relationship was proposed. Both the analytical method proposed in this paper and the finite element numerical method were used to calculate the rail deformations under three typical deformations of bridge structures and the evolution of rail geometry under these circumstances was analyzed. It was shown that numerical and analytical calculation results are well agreed with each other, demonstrating the effectiveness of the analytical model proposed in this paper. The mapping coefficient between bridge structure deformation and rail deformation showed a nonlinear increase with increasing amplitude of the bridge structure deformation. The rail deformation showed an obvious "following feature"; with the increase of bridge span and fastener stiffness, the curve of rail deformation became gentler, the track irregularity wavelength became longer, and the performance of the rail at following the bridge structure deformation was stronger.
Vision-based tracking has been proposed as a means to efficiently track a large number of construction resources operating in a congested site. In order to obtain 3D coordinates of an object, it is necessary to employ stereo-vision theories. Detecting and tracking of multiple objects require an entity matching process that finds corresponding pairs of detected entities across the two camera views. This paper proposes an efficient way of entity matching for tracking of construction workers. The proposed method basically uses epipolar geometry which represents the relationship between the two fixed cameras. Each pixel coordinate in a camera view is projected onto the other camera view as an epipolar line. The proposed method finds the matching pair of a worker entity by comparing the proximity of the all detected entities in the other view to the epipolar line. Experimental results demonstrate its suitability for automated entity matching for 3D vision-based tracking of construction workers.

This paper describes the application of a novel virtual prototyping methodology to wind turbine blade design. Numeric modelling data and experimental data about turbine blade geometry and structural/dynamical behaviour are combined to obtain an affordable digital twin model useful in reducing the undesirable uncertainties during the entire turbine lifecycle. Moreover, this model can be used to track and predict blade structural changes, due for example to structural damage, and to assess its remaining life. A new interactive and recursive process is proposed. It includes CAD geometry generation and finite element analyses, combined with experimental data gathered from the structural testing of a new generation wind turbine blade. The goal of the research is to show how the unique features of a complex wind turbine blade are considered in the virtual model updating process, fully exploiting the computational capabilities available to the designer in modern engineering. A composite Sandia National Laboratories Blade System Design Study (BSDS) turbine blade is used to exemplify the proposed process. Static, modal and fatigue experimental testing are conducted at Clarkson University Blade Test Facility. A digital model was created and updated to conform to all the information available from experimental testing. When an updated virtual digital model is available the performance of the blade during operation can be assessed with higher confidence.
Underwater tracked vehicle is employed to perform underwater heavy works on saturated seafloor. When an underwater tracked vehicle travels on the seafloor, shearing action and ground settlement take place on the soil-track interface, which develops the soil thrust and soil resistance, respectively, and they restrict the tractive performance of an underwater tracked vehicle. Thus, unlike the paved road, underwater tracked vehicle performance does not solely rely on its engine thrust, but also on the soil-track interaction. This paper aimed at evaluating the tractive performance of an underwater tracked vehicle with respect to ground conditions (soil type, and relative density or consistency) and vehicle conditions (weight of vehicle, and geometry of track system), based on the soil-track interaction theory. The results showed that sandy ground and silty sandy ground generally provide sufficient tractions for an underwater tracked vehicle whereas tractive performance is very much restricted on clayey ground, especially for a heavy-weighted underwater tracked vehicle. Thus, it is concluded that an underwater tracked vehicle needs additional equipment to enhance the tractive performance on the clayey ground.
Braking performance of a trainset that consists of a locomotive and several coaches and/or wagons is influenced by that of the locomotive as well as each coach or wagon. For trains to safely travel on a railway, trains must be provided with sufficient distance where to stop. Thus, replacing coaches or wagons needs calculating, measuring the braking performance such as a stopping distance or a deceleration. The task is further complicated if there are many kinds of trains with different braking performance characteristics. The accurate calculation is subject to acquire accurate information on the existing cars. Moreover, the initiation of braking by a driver or the geometry of the track affects as complicated factors. In this paper, based on the braking performance test conducted for US-SCRRA coaches, introduced several factors assumed to influence the result and the compensating methodology.
