초고속선 실험을 위한 신형식 예인전차의 현가장치 설계시안 (Design Idea of Suspension for Traction Wheel of Novel High Speed Towing Carriage)

  • In the conventional towing tank, the ordinary towing carriage has a speed barrier which caused not only by the limitation of the length of towing tank but also the limitation of acceleration. Therefore the length of the towing tank should be decided carefully from the planning stage of the towing tank construction. Consequently the acceleration of the towing carriage should be taken less than 0.06g practically to avoid the slip of the wheel on rail. Due to the increasing demand of the high speed experiments on the development of special novel ship, the requirement of the high speed towing carriage is continuously increased recently. When the minimum measuring time of the towing experiment is prescribed as five seconds, the carriage should be accelerated with higher than 0.12 g to get the speed of 18 m/sec even in the towing tank having a length of 400m in length approximately. This means that the requirement of acceleration is bigger than twice of the ordinary practices of carriage acceleration. In such a condition the exerted total power of motor could not converted to traction force for the acceleration of the carriage without slip. To over come these difficulties a pair of horizontal traction wheels are reinforced to each of the ordinary vertical carrier wheel and appropriate suspension system has been devised for the towing tank of super high speed operation. It is believed that the design of novel suspension system adaptable for the high speed acceleration of towing carriage will play a important role as a reference for the remodeling of the towing tank for high speed experiment.

  • The resistance test of a high speed craft such as planing ship is performed with a high speed towing carriage instead of ordinary towing carriage because of the speed limitation. In the resistance test using high speed towing carriage, the model ship is fixed to the carriage to restrain the running attitude for enough measuring time. Such method is called fixed model test method. In the fixed model test method, to get the appropriate running attitude, the model test is iteratively repeated until the trim moment and lift force are close to zero. In this research, trim free model test method is investigated to reduce the number of iteration. And, the limitation of towing speed range in the trim free model test method is investigated.

  • The deep ocean engineering basin (DOEB) of the Korea Research Institute of Ship and Ocean Engineering (KRISO) is equipped with an extreme-environment reproduction facility that can analyze the motion characteristics of offshore structures and ships. In recent years, there have been requirements for a wide range of six-degree-of-freedom (6-DOF) motion measurements for performing maneuvering tests and free-running tests of target objects (offshore structures or ships). This study introduces the process of developing a wide-area motion measurement technology by incorporating the auto-tracking technology of the towing carriage system to overcome the existing 6-DOF motion measurement limitation. To realize a wide range of motion measurements, the automatic tracking control system of the towing carriage in the DOEB was designed as a speed control method. To verify the control performance, the characteristics of the towing carriage according to the variation in control gain were analyzed. Finally, a wide range of motions was tested using a model test object (a remotely operated vehicle (ROV)), and the wide-area motion measurement technology was implemented using an automatic tracking control system for a towing carriage.

  • A light-weight cantilever type towing carriage was devised and installed in the towing tank at Seoul National University. Wireless measurement devices were also provided for appropriate data acquisition during high-speed towing tests. With the new carriage system, a series of model tests were performed to investigate the hydrodynamic characteristics of the racing boat in the towing tank and the resistance test results had sufficient accuracy so that they could be used in the development of a high speed planning hull.

가속성능이 우수한 외팔보형 고속예인전차의 설계 (On the Design of Cantilever Type High Speed Towing Carriage with Excellent Acceleration Performance)

  • Extraordinarily the establishment of towing tank has been initiated after the allocation of space at the basement floor of existing building through remodeling procedure. Therefore the asymmetric tank should be unavoidably determined by compromising with the allowable space and existing building structure. Consequently the shape of towing carriage ought to be selected as a cantilever type to match with the given environmental conditions. Finally the major role of the towing tank has been configured on the fundamental research work for the high speed marine vehicles. Due to the limited length of towing tank, it is appeared that the carriage should accelerated with 1.2m/sec2 which is equivalent to twice of the maximum acceleration in ordinary practices on design application of carriage. In such a condition the exerted total power of motor could not be converted to traction force of the carriage without slip for the acceleration. To overcome these difficulties the contact pressure of a horizontal traction wheel to rail has been reinforced by the elastic recovery force of springs on supporting rollers. It is believed that the design experience of the high speed towing carriage under unusual circumferential condition and acceleration barrier could be utilized not only on the design of high speed towing carriage but also on the improvement of existing facilities.

  • 서울대학교 공과대학이 보유하고 있는 선형시험수조의 모형선 예인 전차를 개인용 전산기에서 온라인으로 제어 할 수 있도록 속도제어 시스템을 개량한 바 있다. 이 시스템을 활용하여 전차의 속도의 정밀한 제어가 가능하게 되었다. 이를 활용하여 선형시험수조내에 존재하게 되는 잔류 및 정재파와 같은 현상으로 인하여 모형선의 대수속도가 전차의 예인을 위하여 설정한 속도와 미소한 차이를 가지게 되는 것으로 가상하여 전차의 운전속도를 조정하고 모형선을 예인하여 저항성능에 미치는 차이를 실험적으로 확인하고자 하였다.

인하대학교(仁河大學校) 선형시험수조(船型試驗水槽)에 관(關)하여 (On th Towing Tank of Inha University)

  • Since 1967 the Towing Tank of Inha University has been planed constracted and was completed 1971. The size of the tank is 79m length, 5m width 3m depth. At one end of the tank, 18kw wave maker is installed which can produce regular and irregular waves, max. 6m length 40cm height. The towing carriage is driven by four 2.2kw motor and reuglated by electronic speed regulator, and it's max. towing speed is 2.5m/sec, resistance dynamometer and some other instruments including clamp, towing guide etc. are designed and made by us. Here under, the authors wish to give some details of facilities and calibrated performance of the towing carriage, wave maker and resistance measuring system.

  • With increasing demands of high speed transportation, recently a lot of high speed marine vehicles, such as SWATH, semi-planing craft, planing craft, hydrofoil craft, SES and so on, have been paid attention especially in high speed region over the Froude number 0.5. The resistance characteristics of the vehicles should be experimentally evaluated in the towing tank. At the Seoul National University, a light-weight cantilever type towing carriage was devised and installed in the towing tank. Wireless measurement devices were also provided for appropriate data acquisition during high-speed towing tests. With the new carriage system, a series of model tests were performed to investigate the hydrodynamic characteristics of a stepped planning hull in the towing tank and the resistance performances of the hull are introduced in this report.

  • With installation of the computerized data acquisition system on the towing carriage of KRIS towing tank, the testing techniques of resistance test, propeller open-water test, self-propulsion test and wake survey at propeller disk were remarkably improved and automated. For the self-propulsion test a new method was developed with aid of a digital desk-top computer. This method is based on extracting advantages both from British method and Continental method, that is, the accuracy from the constant speed method and the effciency from the constant load method. The KRIS method has been successfully practized with the improved accuracy, stability and efficiency. Details of the new method are described in this paper.

Comparison of Hydrodynamic Coefficients obtained through Implementation of Diverse Methods in Square Tank

  • To confirm whether the square tank at Changwon National University (CWNU) can be used for estimation of maneuverability, planar motion mechanism (PMM) test and circular motion (CM) test were performed for various conditions. PMM test can be implemented using an XY carriage and a yaw table in the square tank. However, sometimes test section is insufficient for PMM test owing to low length-breadth ratio of the tank. In addition, the speed of a towing carriage is also quite limited. Therefore, it would be useful if PMM test could be effectively performed diagonally, by establishing coupled control logic to drive three servomotors. In addition, Froude number dependency on the estimated hydrodynamic coefficients was checked. Furthermore, CM tests, which cannot be completed in a conventional linear towing tank, were performed, and its results were compared with the results of PMM test. The results of the PMM tests in the diagonal direction were consistent with the results of the test performed in the direction parallel to the sidewall. However, the results of the CM test were greater than those of the PMM test. This tendency was also observed in the results published at Ulsan University.
