Occlusal scheme in a group of Thais

  • PURPOSE. To study the distribution of various occlusal schemes as well as associated static occlusal relationship among Thais. MATERIALS AND METHODS. The subjects'occlusal schemes on the left and right sides were classified as canine protected occlusion, group function, or unclassified according to the definition from Glossary of Prosthodontic Terms ($8^{th}$ edition). In addition, the presence of occlusal interferences during mandibular excursions were recorded. The measurement of the horizontal overlap and vertical overlap was also performed. Chi-square, One-way ANAVA and Mann-Whitney U statistical tests were used with level of significance set at P=.05. RESULTS. Total of 104 subjects were included in this study. The ratio for male to female was 1.8 to 1. Average age of the population was $25.01{\pm}6.87$ years old. The mean vertical overlap and horizontal overlap were $1.94{\pm}1.20$ and $2.41{\pm}1.32$ mm respectively. The majority of the populations (68.3%) possessed group function occlusal scheme. For the remaining, 17.3% possess canine protected occlusion and 12.5% possess combination of both occlusal schemes. We also found that occlusal interference was presented in 20.2% of the population. The most common was protrusive interference (57.14%), the second was balancing interference (38.1%) and the third was working interference (4.1%). CONCLUSION. Among Thais, the most common occlusal scheme was group function, however there were no significant occlusal factors related to any particular occlusal scheme.

Prevalence and Risk Factors of Functional Dyspepsia in Health Check-up Population: A Nationwide Multicenter Prospective Study

  • Background/Aims Functional dyspepsia (FD) is one of the most common gastrointestinal disorders, and FD imposes social and economic burden worldwide. The aim of this study is to identify the prevalence and risk factors of FD in health check-up population in tertiary centers in Korea. Methods A nationwide multicenter prospective study was performed at 9 tertiary healthcare centers in Korea between September 2016 and June 2017. A total of 2525 subjects were investigated based on endoscopic findings and questionnaires with the Rome III criteria, and Helicobacter pylori serology (IgG). Results A total of 1714 subjects without organic disease were enrolled. The mean (${\pm}SD$) age was 51.5 (${\pm}12.7$) years, and 917 patients (53.5%) were female. The proportion of H. pylori seropositivity was 51.0% (874/1714). The prevalence of FD was 10.3% (176/1714), and the subtypes of postprandial distress syndrome alone, epigastric pain syndrome alone, and postprandial distress syndromeepigastric pain syndrome overlap were 4.8%, 3.0%, and 2.5%, respectively. Multivariate analysis showed that female gender (OR, 1.58; 95% CI, 1.14-2.21) and education below college level (OR, 1.45; 95% CI, 1.01-2.07) were related to FD. Multivariate analysis based on age 60 showed female gender as a significant (OR, 2.90; 95% CI, 1.06-7.94) factor in the group ${\geq}60$ years. Conclusions The prevalence of FD was 10.3% in the health check-up population in Korea. Female sex and education below college level were risk factors for FD. Female sex is a risk factor for FD in old age, underscoring the need for close attention in this age group.

Application of DV-X$\alpha$ Method to ${\gamma}$-2CaO.SiO$_2$

  • In the present study, we attempted to apply DV-X$\alpha$ method to expressing the reactivity of materials. The expression of reactivity was discussed by comparison between ${\gamma}$-C$_2$G having hydraulic activity and ${\gamma}$-C$_2$S not having hydraulic activity at normal conditions. It was found that the model cluster used for calculation can finely reproduce the bulk and surface states using with and without point charge, respectively. The hydration state was also represented by placing OH ̄ on the surface of the cluster. It was calculated that the bond strength of the first layer (as surface) was bigger than that of inner layers (as bulk) for ${\gamma}$-C$_2$S while that of the first layer for ${\gamma}$-C$_2$G was smaller than that of inner layers. Subsequently a model in which OH ̄ is coordinated on Ca at the surface was also calculated. The bond strength with OH ̄ was stronger than that without OH ̄, while for ${\gamma}$-C$_2$G the bond strength with OH ̄ was weaker than that without OH ̄. From these results, it is concluded that the hydraulic activity depends on whether the bond strength for hydrated state becomes weaker than that unhydrated state or not.

살충성(殺蟲性) 0,0-Diethylphenylphosphate 유도체(誘導體)의 형태(形態)와 반응성(反應性)에 관(關)한 분자궤도론적(分子軌度論的) 연구(硏究) (Molecular Orbital Theoretical Study on the Conformation and Chemical Reactivity of Insecticidal 0,0-Diethylphenylphosphate Derivatives)

  • 대표적인 유기인계 살충성 0,0-diethylphenylphosphate 유도체의 양자 약리학적 특성에 대한 이해를 도모하기 위하여 EHT와 CNDO/2분자궤도 함수 계산방법으로 0,0-diethylphenylphosphate 분자의 형태와 에너지성분 및 반응성을 검토하였다. 형태이성체들에 대한 전체에너지($E_r$)와 쌍극자 능율값(${\mu}$)을 계산한 바, ${\theta}=0^{\circ}$보다 ${\theta}=90^{\circ}$인 형태가 ${\mu}=2.4D$$E_r=181.5(EHT)$$E_r=154.8kcal/mol(CNDO/2)$만큼 작은 값을 나타낼뿐만 아니라, steric factor도 작아지므로 ${\theta}=90^{\circ}$형태가 가장 알짜 안정화된 형태이었으며 ${\theta}=90^{\circ}$형태에 대한 HOMO, LUMO에너지, 알짜 전하, overlap population, AO계수 등을 계산하였다. Hammett식에 적용하며 치환기 효과를 검토한 결과, 전자를 끄는 치환기에 의하여 P원자의 양하전이 증가하는 coulomb term 효과와 LUMO에너지가 낮아지는 frontier orbital term 효과가 같은 경향으로 이루어저 charge-control-led reaction과 orbital-controlled reaction이 일어나는 $SN_2$형의 반응성을 갖는다는 사실을 알았다.

인구동태신고 및 통계조사의 개선방안 (A Study on Improvement of Vital Registration and Statistics System in Korea)

  • 1.Objectives of the Study It is a well known fact that a prompt and reliable data on demographic information is essential in a proper planning and evaluation of any program of national or community level. Especially vital statistics are an important demographic component among demographic information. Realizing the importance of vital statistics, the government has made some efforts for years to improve the vital registration system which has a close relationship with the production of vital statistics. However, it is still observed that there are some limitations in utilizing vital registration data due to considerable amount of vital events which are never registered and registered but not in time or inaccurately, even though vital registration system in Korea has sound legal basis. In this connection, the objectives of the study is as follows :(1) To examine some problems of the vital registration system in various aspects, (2) To make improvement programme of continuous Demographic Survey as a supplementary source of vital statistics, and (3) To find out some alternatives for making it possible to produce and utilize the reliable vital statistics by developing analytical methodologies on that. 2. Current Situation of Vital Registration System All the vital events, i.e. births, deaths, marriages and divorces, are to be registered in time under the Civil Registration Law, Statistics Law and Regulation on Vital Statstics as a duty of people. Some recent tendencies in each of recent registration are summarized as below: (1) The completeness of vital registration .Out of all births which are occurred during a year, around 75% of those compared to the estimates are registered in the year of occurrence. .In case of death registration, the percentage of registration in the year of occurrene has been gradually increased from 86.2% in the year of 1980, but it is still below the level of 90% compared to the estimates. .The percentage of registration for marriages and divorces in the year of occurrence out of total registered numbers was revealed to be 69% and 73% respectively in 1985. (2) Continuous Demographic Survey .It is a kind of sample survey for the purpose of producing reliable vital statistics which could not be provided by the vital registration. .It covers about 17, 000 sample households at national level and important information for vital events are collected in every month by 323 expertized enumerators who are regular staff of the government. .Although the result of the survey seems to be more reliable than of vital registration, the reliability of the data is still bellow the acceptable level if compared with relevant information from other sources such as population census or special surveys. 3. Problems of Vital Registration System There are four major obstacles in improving vital registration system in Korea; (1) In general, policy priority is not given on any programme of improving vital registration system. It is, therefore, very difficult to formulate comprehensive programme through having cooperation from related authorities and sufficient financial assistance. (2) In all the laws related and system itself, there is substantial degree of overlap and irrationality. Registration of each vital event is maintained according to several laws and regulation such as Civil Registration Law, Statistics Law, Resident Registration Law and Regulation on Vital Statistics. However they are mutually overlapped and overall supervision can not be done systematically due to lack of co-operation among the authorities concerned. (3) The administration of vital registration system seems to be working inefficiently, because of most of civil servants who are in charge of vital registration are lacking of conception on vital statistics and also there is a certain extent of regidity in handling the works. Therefore, they are doing their jobs in a passive way. (4) A substantial proportion of vital events occurred is not registered within the legal time limit (i.e. within one month after the occurrence in case of birth and death) or not registered forever. Some of social customs and superstitution seem to be the potential causes especially in case of births and deaths. 4. Recommendations for the Improvement of Vital Statistics (1) Reporting systems such as civil registration, vital statistics and resident registration should be integrated under the single law. Also, administrative supervision, personnel and budget with regard to the registration system should be under the control of a single ministry. (2) It is necessary to simplify the procedures and methods of reporting vital events, i.e., reducing number of sheets of the form, making corrections easily, reducing registration items, etc. (3) Continuous Demographic Survey as a supplementary source of vital registration should be improved and special ad-hoc surveys should be conducted wth regular interval. (4) In-depth analysis should be done using various sources of data on vital statistics. 5. Concluding Remarks From this study, we can notice that temporary campaign and motivation programs are not sufficient to improve the quality of vital statistics. Strong intentions and continuous efforts of the government are needed for the improvement of the vital registration system. Furthermore, most of the data collected through the registration are not properly analyzed and utilized, partly due to the lack of appreciation among high-level governmental officials of the need for vital statistics. It is, therefore, requested that long-term improvement programs of vital statistics be implemented with policy priority and continuous efforts be given to this purpose as a long-term goal of development in Korea.

전라남도 연안습지에 도래하는 수조류의 월동지 이용에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Use of Wintering Habitats of Water Birds Arriving at Coastal Wetlands in Jeollanam Province, Korea)

  • 본 연구는 2000년부터 2003년까지 주요 철새도래지로 알려진 전남해안에 위치하는 연안 습지 7개 지역에 월동하는 수조류를 조사하였다. 관찰된 수조류는 총 90종 857,570개체였으며, 유사한 생태적 특징을 가지는 분류군별로 나누어 볼 때 총 17개 분류군이 관찰되었다. 이 중에서 주로 수면이나 수변에 서식하는 수조류는 8개 분류군이었다. 만 지역과 호수 지역 중 만 지역을 이용하는 비율이 높은 분류군은 도요류, 갈매기류, 고니류의 순이었다. 호수 지역을 이용하는 비율이 높은 분류군은 수면성오리류, 논병아리류, 기러기류의 순이었다. 결과적으로 만과 호수지역을 이용하는 분류군의 유형에 차이가 있었다. 종 구성을 통한 유사도지수 CCs와 종과 개체수를 고려한 유사도지수 Ro를 이용하여 UPGMA군집분석을 한 결과 7개 지역 중 가장 독특한 종의 구성을 가지는 지역은 순천만 지역이었으며, 만 지역과 호수 지역이 서로 다른 종과 개체수 구성을 가졌다. 최대합계수에 의한 지수의 순위를 종합하여 지역의 중요성을 평가한 결과 순천만이 1위로 가장 중요도가 높았다. 다음으로 보성-득량만, 강진만, 고천암호, 영암호와 금호호, 영산호 순으로 중요도가 낮게 평가되었다. 전체적으로 만 지역이 간척호수 지역에 비해 상대적으로 높은 중요도를 나타냈다.

한국산(韓國産) 분비나무와 구상나무의 형질분석(形質分析)과 종간유연관계(種間類緣關係) (An Analysis of Morphological Variation in Abies koreana Wilson and A. nephrolepis (Traut.) Maxim. of Korea (Pinaceae) and Their Phylogenetic Problems)

  • 국내 젓나무속의 분비나무와 구상나무를 중심으로 집단간 종간 주요 15개의 형질에 대한 분석을 통해 식별(identification)형질과 유별(classification)형질과의 관계를 조명하고자 하였다. 주성분분석(principal components analysis : PCA)과 유집분석(cluster analysis) 결과 종을 식별하는데 도움을 주는 형질로는 잎의 폭, 종자길이, 종자날개의 폭, 길이, 구과 폭, 실편의 폭, 포침의 길이였으나, 종간 형질의 최고-최저의 구간을 비교하였을 때에는 서로 중첩되어 현실적으로 표본을 중심으로 한 종간 구분은 불가능하였다. 집단별로는 구상나무의 경우 지리산 집단이 구과의 크기와 포침의 길이가 큰 반면, 한라산 집단의 개체들은 대부분 종자크기(폭과 날개)와 실편의 폭 등이 다른 집단에 비해 컸으며, 덕유산 집단은 대부분의 형질이 왜소한 특성을 보여주었다. 젓나무속의 주요 식별형질로 인식되는 잎의 수지구 위치를 집단별로 조사하여 본 결과, 한라산 개체의 경우 구상(나무)형으로 인지되었으나, 지리산 개체의 경우 약 75%정도만이 구상형인 반면 덕유산 가야산의 경우에는 50% 이하가 구상형과 분비형으로 확인되어 두 집단의 일부개체는 분비나무와 구분이 불가능하였다. 한편, flavonoids 분석 결과, flavonol, dihydroflavonol, flavanone 등 3개군(群)의 flavonoids가 확인되었는데, 구상나무에서만 존재하는 flavanone(5-deoxyflavanone)을 제외하고는 뚜렷한 종간 차이점을 확인할 수 없었다. 구성나무의 경우 한라산과 지리산 집단에서 flavanone의 성분이 발견된 반면, 덕유산의 경우는 이 성분이 존대하지 않아, 화학적으로는 분비나무에 더 가까웠다. 오대산, 명지산, 치악산, 중왕산, 소백산에서 채집된 분비나무의 경우(설악산 집단의 일부개체 제외), 구상나무에서 발견된 flavanone 성분은 없었고 대신 분비나무의 특징인 dihydrokaemferol의 성분이 다량 존재하였다. 일본(日本)과 중국(中國), 대만(臺灣)의 25종의 flavonoids을 비교 분석한 결과, 구상나무에서 발견된 flavanone성분이 중국종(中國種) 중 수지구의 내형과 외형을 모두 가지는 운남성(雲南省), 사천성(四川省)의 A. faxoniana Rehder et Wilson(원시종으로 추측)과 운남성(雲南省), 사천성(四川省), 서장성(西藏省)의 A. georgei Orr에서 발견됨에 따라 수지구위치는 국내종의 경우 집단적 변이에 의한 반면, 중국(中國)에서는 종간 유연관계를 설명하는 주요 형질로 밝혀졌다. 정량적 형질을 중심으로는 분비나무와 구상나무를 식별할 수 있는 형질이 존재하지 않으나 수지구가 안쪽에 위치한 중국(中國)의 A. faxoniana와 A. georgei에서 구상나무의 특유성분인 flavanone이 발견되어 형태적으로 수지구위치가 상대적으로 중요한 형질로 재확인되었으며 한국의 일부 집단에서 보이는 구상형 연속변이는 분비나무와의 잡종현상이나 또는 신생대 4기 때 분비나무와 구상나무의 유전자교합, 혹은 이입현상에 인한 것으로 추정된다. 수지구 위치 변이와 화학적 변이의 중간적 형태를 보여주는 지리산, 덕유산, 가야산 지역의 집단유전구조 분석 후에나 그 실체가 밝혀질 것으로 기대되며 현재 연구중이다.
