Unified power flow controller (UPFC) is the most reliable device in the FACTS concept. It has the ability to adjust all three control parameters effective in power flow and voltage stability. In this paper, a linearized model of a power system installed with a UPFC has been presented. UPFC has four control loops that by adding an extra signal to one of them, increases dynamic stability and load angle oscillations are damped. In this paper, after open loop eigenvalue (electro mechanical mode) calculations, state-space equations have been used to design damping controller and it has been considered to influence active and reactive power flow durations as the input of damping controller, in addition to the common speed duration of synchronous generators as input damper signal. To increase stability, further Lead-Lag and LQR controllers, a novel on-line adaptive controller has been used analytically to identify power system parameters. Closed-loop calculations of the electro mechanical mode verify the improvement of system pole placement after controller designing. Suitable operation of adaptive controller to decrease rotor speed oscillations against input mechanical torque disturbances is confirmed by the simulation results.
This paper presents yaw moment control for modification of steering characteristic in rear-driven vehicle with front in-wheel motors (IWMs). The proposed control algorithm is designed to modify yaw rate response of the test vehicle. General approach for modification of steering characteristic is to define the desired yaw rate and track the yaw rate. This yaw rate tracking method can cause the chattering problem because of the IWM actuator response. Large overshoot and settling time in IWM torque response can amplify the oscillation in control input and yaw rate. To resolve these problems, open-loop IWM controller for cornering agility was designed to modify the understeer gradient of the vehicle. The proposed algorithm has been investigated via the computer simulations and the vehicle tests. The performance evaluation has been conducted on dry asphalt using E-segment test vehicle. The performance of the proposed algorithm has been compared to general yaw rate tracking algorithm in the vehicle tests. It has been shown that the proposed control law improved the cornering agility without chattering problem.

A torque transmission system composed of several gears and couplings is flexible. In order to get an exact response of motor, the torsional vibration due to an unexpected change of motor speed must be suppressed. Therefore, it is very important that motor control suppress vibration. Various methods to control it including dual inertia system are proposed. Specially, the method of vibration suppression is that vibration can be suppressed to fee㏈ack the estimated torsion torque via the disturbance observer filter being of normal filter. The suitable Proportional controller and coefficient parameter can be designed using CDM and the torsional vibration also be suppressed, but it has a low degree of adaptability to disturbance. The PID controller can be designed easily, but makes the excessive overshoot and oscillation for system response in the early period. To resolve these problems, simple and practical PID controller with two degree of freedom is proposed recently that it ran improve performance of obeying the reference unconcerned in any disturbance by changing the proportional gain by two degree of freedom parameter. But it has also the defect that parameter a must be changed to obtain the ideal Proportional parameter. On this paper, we design the controller which automatically adjusts parameter u using fuzzy Algorithm to overcome such defects. Also, we compare the proposed method with established one and evaluate them to confirm performance of the designed controller.

The current study is dedicated to design a novel coordinated controller to effectively increase power system rotor angle stability. In doing so, the coordinated design of an AVR (automatic voltage regulator), PSS2B, and TCSC (thyristor controlled series capacitor)-based POD (power oscillation damping) controller is proposed. Although the recently employed coordination between a CPSS (conventional power system stabilizer) and a TCSC-based POD controller has been shown to improve power system damping characteristics, neglecting the negative impact of existing high-gain AVR on the damping torque by considering its parameters as given values, may reduce the effectiveness of a CPSS-POD controller. Thus, using a technologically viable stabilizer such as PSS2B rather than the CPSS in a coordinated scheme with an AVR and POD controller can constitute a well-established design with a structure that as a high potential to significantly improve the rotor angle stability. The design procedure is formulated as an optimization problem in which the ITSE (integral of time multiplied squared error) performance index as an objective function is minimized by employing an IPSO (improved particle swarm optimization) algorithm to tune adjustable parameters. The robustness of the coordinated designs is guaranteed by concurrently considering some operating conditions in the optimization process. To evaluate the performance of the proposed controllers, eigenvalue analysis and time domain simulations were performed for different operating points and perturbations simulated on 2A4M (two-area four-machine) power systems in MATLAB/Simulink. The results reveal that surpassing improvement in damping of oscillations is achieved in comparison with the CPSS-TCSC coordination.
One of the main purposes of the marine gyrocompass follow-up system is to preserve the sensitive part from the wandering error due to the frictional or torsional torque around the vertical axis. This error can be diminished through the rapid follow-up action, which minimizes the relative azimuthal angular displacement between the sensitive and follow-up parts and shortens the duration of the same displacement. But an excessive rapidity of the follow-up action would result in a sustained oscillation to the system. Therefore, to design a new type of the follow-up system, the theoretical annlysis of the problems concerned should be studied systematically by introducing the control theory. This paper suggest a concrete procedure for the optimal adjustment of the gyrocompass follow-up system, utilizing the mathematic model and the stability informations formerly investiaged by the author. For theoptimal determination of the adjustable paramfter K, the performance index(P.I.), ITSE(Intergral of the Time multiplied by the Squared Error) is proposed, namely, P.I. = $\int_{0}^{\infty} t \cdot e^{2}(t)dt$ where t is time and e(t) means control error. Then, the optimal parameter minimizing the performance index is calculated by means of Parseval's theorem and numerical computation, and the validity of the obtained optimal value of the parameter Ka is examined and confirmed through the simulations and experiments. By using, the proposed method, the optimal adjustment can be performed deterministically. But, this can not be expected in the conventional frequency domain analysis. While the Mps of the original system vary to the extent of from 0.98 to 46.27, Mp of the optimal system is evaluated as 1.1 which satisfies the generally accepted frequency domain specification.

Using the magnet gear, it is possible to transmit power without mechanical contact. As the drive shaft in a magnet gear-based speed reducer system is isolated from the drive shaft, the system is a two-inertia resonance system that should cope with an external load with the limited air-gap stiffness. On the other hand, the drive shaft or low-speed side is controlled only by the torque of the drive shaft through an air-gap, and the excessive oscillation or the slip can then be generated because of an abrupt disturbance that is different from the general mechanical gear system. Therefore, the disturbance loaded at the low speed side should be measured or estimated, and considered in the control of the driving shaft. This paper proposes a novel full-state feedback controller with a reduced-order observer for the speed reducer system using a magnet gear with a unified harmonic modulator. The control method was verified by simulation and experiment. To estimate the load at the low speed side, a novel observer was designed, in which the new state variable is introduced and the new state equation is formulated. Using a full-state feedback controller including the observer, the test result against disturbance was compared with two D.O.F PI speed controllers. The pole slip was compensated within relatively a short time, and the simulation result about the estimated variable shows a similar tendency to the test result. The test results showed that the magnet gear-based reducer can be applied to an accurate servo system.

This paper describes the stabilization of underwater TAS winch system Deploy/Recover operation performance. TAS winch installed on the stern of submarine performs to deploy/recover sensor, towing cable and rope tail which is deployed from the stern and separated from submarine itself. Also TAS winch provides transmission path of power to the sensor and data transmitting/receiving path which data are acquired from underwater environment like sound, depth and temperature. At the step of TAS winch evaluation test, sporadic standstill and rotating speed oscillation phenomenon were occurred. Winch motor provides the available torque to deploy/recover TAS and root cause analysis to the winch motor was done to find exact reason to sporadic malfunction. When winch motor was disassembled, eccentricity of rotor, slip-ring and the other composition part for winch motor were found. These might cause magnetic field distortion. To make TAS winch system more stable and block magnetic field distortion, this paper suggests methods to enhance fixing status installed in winch motor. For reliable data acquisition for TAS winch operation, the deploy/recover function of the improved type of TAS winch was verified in LBTS making similar condition with sea status. At the end of stage, improved type of TAS winch was tested on some functions not only deploy/recover function, but sustainability of TAS operation on specific velocity, steering angle of submarine in the sea trial. Improved type of TAS winch was verified in accordance with design requirement. Also, validity of suggested methods were verified by the sea trial.
This paper is the forth and fifth one of the study on balanced type oscillating mole drainer. In the light of the results from previous reports about the model tests, some design criteria were established and a prototype machine was set up for experimental purpose. Motion characteristics and functionof the each parts of the machine were checked and analyzed. After that, performance tests of the prototype machine were carried out in thefield. Obtained results are summarized as follows ; 1. Ten centimeter of the bullet diameter was determined so as to be able to attach it to the tractors with capacity of 30 PS to 40 PS. 2. To maintain the balance between the moments of the front shank and rear shank, the oscillating amplitude of the rear bullet was determined to be larger than that of the front bullet. At the same time , the oscillating direction of the rear bullet was designed with the inclines of ten to thirty degrees. 3. An octagonal dynamo transduced was developed for measuring the compressive force of the upper link is measuring the draft force of the machine. Acceptable linear relationship between forces and strain responses from O.D.T. was obtained. 4. Analysing the balancing mechanism of the acting part of the machine , it was found that the total draft force of the machine was equal to the difference between the sum of the draft force produced from the right and left side bending moments of the lower drawber and the compressive force on the upper link. 5. There are acceptable linear relationship between the strain and twisting moment by driving shaft, and between strain and shank moment. Above results enable us to carry out the field experiment with prototype machine. 6. When the test machine was used in the field, it was possible to reduce the oscillating acceleration by forty percent in average as compared it with the single bullet mole drainer. 7. When the test machine was used under the oscillating condition, the dratt torce was reduced by 27 percent to 59 percent as compared it with the test machine under non-oscillating condition, while the draft force was increased by 7 percent to 20 percent as compared it with the mole drainer having oscillating single bullet. The reasoning behind this fact was considered as the resistance force due to the rear shank and bullet. 8. As the amplitude and frequency of the bullet were increased, the torque was increased accordingly. This tendency could be varied with the various characteristics of the given soils. And the larger frequency and amplitute, the more increasing oscil\ulcornerlating power but decreasing draft brce were needed, and draft force was increased as the velocity was increased.9. When the amplitude of the rear bullet was designed to be larger than that of the front bullet, the minimum value of the moment was lowered and oscillating acceleration was reduced. And when the oscillating direction of the rear bullet was declined back\ulcornerwards, oscillating acceleration was increased along with the increasing angle of decli\ulcornernation. When the test machine was operated in high speed, the difference between maximum moments and minimum ones became narrow. This varying magnitude of moments appeared on the moment oscillogram seems to be correlated to the oscillating acceleration and draft force. 10. From the analysis of variance, it was found that those factors such as frequency, amplitude, and operating velocity significantly affected in the oscillating acceleration, the draft resistance, the torque, the moment, and the total power required. And interaction between frequency and amplitude affected in the oscillating acceleration. 11. Within the given situation of this study, the most preferable operating conditions of the test machine were 7 Hz in oscillating frequency, 0.54 m/sec in operating velocity, and 39.1 mm in oscillating amplitude of front and rear bullets. However, it is necessary to select the proper frequency and magnitude of oscillation depending on the soil properties of the field in which the mole drainer is practiced by use of a bal1nced type oscillating mole drainer. 12. It is recommended that a comparative study of the mole drainers would be performed in the near future using two separate balanced oscillating bullet with the one which is operated by oscillating the movable bullet in a single cylinder or other balanced type which may be single oscillating bullet with spring, damper or balancing weight, and that of thing. To expand the applicability of the balanced type oscillating mole drainer in practical use, it is suggested to develop a new mechanism which perform mole drain with vinyl pipe or filling material such as rice hull.
