In this paper, applications of neural networks to vibration control of flexible single link robot manipulator are ocnsidered. The architecture of neural networks is a hidden layer, which is comprised of self-recurrent one. Tow neural networks are utilized in a control system ; one as an identifier is called neuro identifier and the othe ra s a controller is called neuro controller. The neural networks can be used to approximate any continuous function to any desired degree of accuracy and the weights are updated by dynamic error-backpropagation algorithm(DEA). To guarantee concegence and to get faster learning, an approach that uses adaptive learning rates is developed by introducing a Lyapunov function. When a flexible manipulator is ratated by a motor through the fixed end, transverse vibration may occur. The motor torque should be controlle dinsuch as way, that the motor is rotated by a specified angle. while simulataneously stabilizing vibration of the flexible manipulators so that it is arrested as soon as possible at the end of rotation. Accurate vibration control of lightweight manipulator during the large body motions, as well as the flexural vibrations. Therefore, dynamic models for a flexible single link manipulator is derived, and LQR controller and nerual networks controller are composed. The effectiveness of the proposed nerual networks control system is confirmed by experiments.

This paper describes real-time unbalance moment compensation method for line of sight(LOS) stabilization control systems. The factors of system inertia, frictions and unbalance moment affect the control accuracy of drive systems that are equipped to on the move(OTM) platforms requiring LOS stabilization function. In case of the unbalance moment among those factors is continuously changed as variation of relative angle between gravity vector and drive torque vector. Then, consideration of the effect in real-time is very complicate. Therefore, its effect should be designed to be minimized, however, designing it almost zero is impossible in real condition. In other words, it is hard to achieve target performance overcoming stability issue of highly unbalanced systems. To solve these problems, this paper proposes calculation method of unbalance moment by using measured sensor data for LOS stabilization control and its use for control compensation. Also, kinematical converting process and control structure for compensation are explained. The effectiveness of the proposed method as variation of unbalance moment is verified under simulation circumstance modeled by assuming LOS control system with 2-axis gimbal structure.

A method for obtaining smooth, jerk bounded feed rate profile in high speed machining has been developed. This study proposes a NURBS interpolator based on adaptive feed rate control with a well developed look ahead algorithm which takes into account the machining dynamics as well. Limitation of jerk and proportional torque rate result in smoothened loads on the machine which effectively reduces excitation of the resonant frequencies of the machine. It is found that the values of the feed rate of the down stream sharp corner have profound effect on the feed rate of the upstream sharp corners. By using a windowing scheme the feed rate profile obtained after look ahead method is re-interpolated to reduce the jerk related problems. This is compared with the adaptive NURBS interpolator to show the effectiveness of the proposed method. Simulation results indicate that the consideration of 'ripple effect' is important in avoiding jerk and thereby increasing the machining accuracy.
This study was carried out to develop a microcomputer-based data acquisition and control system which was able to collect the data of engine performance test automatically and control the speed and load of the engine. The results of the study are summarized as follows: 1. The signal processing devices, which were able to measure cylinder pressure, coolant temperature, compositions of exhaust gas, fuel consumption, engine rpm and torque etc., were developed. The results of calibration showed that all of devices had high accuracy ranging from 0.3% to 0.69% respectively. 2. The PIA (peripheral interface adapter) for interfacing digital signal and PTM (programmable timer module) for displaying real time every 0.0408 sec were designed and developed. 3. An engine-speed control system using a stepping motor and driver was developed. The control system had the stability, and faster settling time than the manual control system. 4. The automatic control system of electrical dynamometer, which was able to control the speed and load of dynamometer, was developed with a SSD (shackleton system driver) and D/A converter. 5. The computer programs, which were able to collect and process the data of engine tests, were developed using both the machine language and BASIC.

In SRM drive, the ON OFF angles of each phase switch should be accurately controlled in order to control the torque and speed stably. The accuracy of the switching angles is dependent upon the resolution of the encoder and the sampling period of the microprocessor, that are used to provide the information of the rotor position and to control the SRM power circuit, respectively. However, as the speed increases, the amount of the switching angle deviation from the preset values is also increased. Therefore, the low cost encoder suitable for the practical and stable SRM drive is proposed and the control algorithm to provide the switching signals using the simple digital logic circuit is also presented in this paper. As a result, a stable high speed SRM drive can be achieved by the high resolution switching angle control and it is verified from the experiments that the proposed encoder and logic controller can be a powerful candidate for the practical low cost SRM drive.

This paper presents a new estimation method of full scale propulsive performance for the pulling type podded propeller. In order to estimate the drag of pod housing, a drag velocity ratio, which includes the effects of podded propeller loading and Reynolds number, is presented and evaluated through the comparison of model test and numerical analysis. By separating the thrust of propeller blade and the drag of pod housing, extrapolation method of pod housing drag to full scale is deduced, and correction method of propeller blade thrust and torque to full scale is presented. This study utilized the drag coefficient ratio of the pod housing as a measure for expanding it to full scale, but in order to increase the accuracy of performance evaluation, additional study is necessary on the method for the full scale expansion via separating the drag of pod body, strut and fin which consist the pod housing.
In general industry, TFM(turbine flow meters) as measuring instruments having high reliability are widely used in the trade of petroleum and in the measurement of tap water and hot water. The TFM is performed calibration for using in the field and is mainly calibrated at room temperature. Since accuracy of TFM depends on Reynolds number of fluid, TFM is calibrated at same Reynolds number by changing flow rate. Furthermore, the TFM using a fluid of high temperature should have considered for other factors such as the thermal expansion of the parts and characteristics change is unknown changes in the turbine flow meter accordingly. In this paper, two turbine flowmeter are experimentally studied about characteristics change using the facilities which can change fluid temperature from 6 degree celsius to 90 degree celsius. As a result, the turbine flow meter can be calibrated to minimize the error characteristic at a similar temperature and the actual temperature.

Industrial manipulators have been mostly used in large companies such as automakers and electronics companies. In recent years, however, demands for industrial manipulators from small and medium-sized enterprises are on the increase because of shortage of manpower and high wages. Since these companies cannot hire robot engineers for operation and programming of a robot, intuitive teaching and playback techniques of a robot manipulator should replace the robot programming which requires substantial knowledge of a robot. This paper proposes an intuitive teaching and playback algorithm used in assembly tasks. An operator can directly teach the robot by grasping the end-effector and moving it to the desired point in the teaching phase. The 6 axis force/torque sensor attached to the manipulator end-effector is used to sense the human intention in teaching the robot. After this teaching phase, a robot can track the target position or trajectory accurately in the playback phase. When the robot contacts the environment during the teaching and playback phases, impedance control is conducted to make the contact task stable. Peg-in-hole experiments are selected to validate the proposed algorithm since this task can describe the important features of various assembly tasks which require both accurate position and force control. It is shown that the proposed teaching and playback algorithm provides high positioning accuracy and stable contact tasks.
This paper presents a vector control implementation for SPMSM(Surface-mounted Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) using dSPACE 1104 system and MATLAB/SIMULINK. SPMSM can be treated as a DC motor provided that currents of flux and torque component are controlled independently using vector control. Therefore various control algorithms for conventional DC motor control can be adopted to SPMSM. The system is designed to improve set-point tracking capability, fast response, and accuracy. In This paper, d-q equivalent modeling of PMSM is derived based on vector control theory. The PI controller is used for speed control and state feedback PI current control method is used for current control. For the implementation of high performance vector control system, dSPACE 1104 system is used. Simulations and experiments were carried out to examine validity of the proposed vector control implementation.

This paper provides a fin actuation system of missile based on electromagnetic-spring mechanism to miniaturize the system and lower the cost. Compared with proportional electro-mechanical actuators, the output of Electromagnetic-Spring Actuators(EMSA) has two or three discrete states, but the mechanical configuration of EMSA is simple since it does not need power trains like gears. The simple mechanism of EMSA makes it easy to build small size, low cost, and relatively high torque actuators. However, fast response time is required to improve the dynamic performance and accuracy of missiles since bang-off-bang operation of EMSA affects the flight performance of missile. In this paper the development of EMSA including parameter optimization and mathematical modeling is described. The simulation results using Simulink and experimental test results of prototype EMSAs are presented.
