Advanced control algorithms must be used to make wind power generation truly cost effective and reliable. In this study, we develop a new and simple control scheme that employs model predictive control (MPC), which is used in permanent magnet synchronous generators and grid-connected inverters. The proposed control law is based on two points, namely, MPC-based torque-current control loop is used for the generator-side converter to reach the maximum power point of the wind turbine, and MPC-based direct power control loop is used for the grid-side converter to satisfy the grid code and help improve system stability. Moreover, a simple prediction scheme is developed for the direct-drive wind energy conversion system (WECS) to reduce the computation burden for real-time applications. A small-scale WECS laboratory prototype is built and evaluated to verify the validity of the developed control methods. Acceptable results are obtained from the real-time implementation of the proposed MPC methods for WECS.

This paper describes a modeling of fixed speed wind power generation system which comprise of wind turbine, generator and grid. The wind turbine is based on MOD-2, which is IEEE standard wind turbine, and includes a component using wind turbine characteristic equation. Fixed speed induction generator is directly connected to grid, so the variation of wind speed has effects on the electrical torque and electrical output power. Therefore the power control mode pitch control system is necessary for aerodynamic control of the blades. But the power control mode does not operate at the fault condition. So it is required some methods to control the rotor speed at transient state for stabilization of wind power system. In this paper, simulation model of a fixed speed wind power generation system based on the PSCAD/EMTDC is presented and implemented under the real weather conditions. Also, a new pitch control system is proposed to stabilize the wind power system at the fault condition. The validity of the stabilization method is demonstrated with the results produced through sets of simulation.
This paper introduces the design concepts and characteristics of WinDS3000$^{TM}$(TC IIa) which is a trade name of Doosan's 3MW offshore/onshore wind turbine. WinDS3000$^{TM}$(TC IIa) has been designed in consideration of high Reliability, Availability, Maintainability and Serviceability (RAMS) and low cost of electricity (CDE) for the TC IIa condition based on GL guideline. An integrated drive-train design with an innovative three-stage gearbox has been introduced to minimize nacelle weight of the wind turbine and to enhance a high reliability for transmission. A permanent magnet generator with full converter system has been introduced to get higher efficiency in partial load operation and grid-friendly system for both 50 Hz and 60 Hz. A pitch-regulated variable speed control system has been introduced to control wind turbine power while generator reaction torque can be adjusted almost instantaneously by the associated power electronics. The wind turbine has been also equipped with condition monitoring and diagnostic systems in order to meet maintainability requirements.
Recently, a project to build a carbon zero island with no carbon emissions has been carried out by replacing diesel generators with renewable energy sources in island areas where diesel generators supplied local loads as independent systems. To minimize damage to the lives of islanders, low noise wind generators should be installed by adjusting the rated speed. In islands with low loads, wind turbines that are more efficient than medium-sized wind turbines should be installed. In this study, the generator field analysis and characteristics were analyzed to develop 230 kW-class low wind medium-wind turbine technology. The electromagnetic field analysis program used Maxwell. As a result, the cogging torque was reduced, and the initial maneuver wind speed and loss value were lowered. Hence, the output amount was increased with high efficiency.
In the mechanical system, optimization of motion control is very essential in the aspect of automation technique progress. In the servo system, the function of controller is very important but most of the controllers have played only the role of pulse generator because the controller with main function is very expensive. In this thesis, the system was composed of PC, commonly used driver AC servo motor and a produced control board. The PC transmit a gain, a locus data to a driver and controller. At the same time, it converts imformation from the controller and convert them into data and offer an output with graph. The role of a controller is to trasmit a locus data to a driver and counting the pulse on the phase of an encoder to the PC. We have performed the experiment in order to confirm with variable PID parameter capable of the optimization of gain tuning with the counting of feedback control sensor signal with regard to the external interface into the system, such as torque. Based on the experiment result, we have confirmed as follows: First, it was confirmed that we could easily input control factors P.I Gain, constant $K_P,\;K_I$ into PC. Second, not only pulse generator function was possible, but with this pulse it was also possible to count using software with PIC chip. And third, using the multi-purpose PIC micro chip, simple operation and the formation of small size AC Servo Controller was possible.
The automotive industry is showing widespread interest in belt-driven electric motor-assisted (e-Assist) systems. A belt-driven assist system (BAS) starts and assists the combustion engine in place of the conventional generator. In this study, a water-cooled wound rotor synchronous motor (WRSM) for the e-Assist system was designed and analyzed. The performance of the WRSM was compared with that of an interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM). The WRSM efficiency can be improved for the BAS by adjusting the field flux at high speeds. The field current map to obtain the maximum efficiency based on the speed and torque was developed. To control the field flux via field current control in the WRSM, a general H-bridge circuit was added to the WRSM inverter to get the rapid current response in the high-speed region; the characteristics were compared with the chopper circuit. A WRSM developed for the belt-driven e-Assist system and a prototype 115 V power electronic converter to drive the WRSM were tested with a 900 cc combustion engine. The test results showed that the WRSM-type e-Assist system had good characteristics and could successfully start and assist the 900 cc combustion engine.

Wind energy is one of the most general natural resources in the world. However, as of today, generating electricity out of wind energy is only available from big wind generator, Furthermore, an axial-flow turbine is the only way to produce electricity in the big wind generator. This paper is for the guidance of drawing impact fact about power turbine using cross-flow type transferring wind energy to electricity energy. It will find the ideal value which enables to make cross-flow power turbine(CPT) using computational fluid dynamics(CFD) code. This study tries to analyze the "Solidity" characteristics. We can find out turbine-blade number through CFD. CFD is using "Fluent_ver 6.3.16", and the data from its result will judge fan-blade performance through specific torque and specific power from each "Solidity" model. Based upon the above, we will make cross-flow power turbine of multi-blade centrifugal fan instead of axial-flow type.
This paper presents the modeling and analysis of V47-660 kW wind turbine generation system(WTGS) in Jeju wind farm using Psim program. Generally, WTGS is composed of complicated machinery. So it is very difficult to present the mathematic model. This means that WTGS has a nonlinear system. Using the real output data from V47 WTGS for one year, it is simply possible to express the rotor and gear coupling system as a torque generator according to wind speed. Also, the modeling of electrical system can be able to present using the data sheet from the company. To analyze the proposed method, results of computer simulation using Psim program are presented to support the discussion.
This paper proposes a new start-up method for a load commutated inverter (LCI) in a large synchronous gas-turbine generator. The initial rotor position for start-up torque is detected by the proposed initial angle detector, which consists of an integrator and a phase-locked loop. The initial rotor position is accurately detected within 150ms, and the angle difference between the real position and the detected position is less than 1%. The LCI system operates in two modes (forced commutation mode and natural commutation mode) according to operating speed range. The proposed controllers include a forced commutation controller for the low-speed range, a PI speed controller and a PI current controller, where the forced commutation controller is connected to the current controller in parallel. The current controller is modeled by Matlab/Simulink, where a six-pulse delay of the thyristor and a processing delay are considered by using a zero-order hold. The performance of the proposed start-up method is evaluated in Matlab/Psim at standstill and at low speed. To verify the feasibility of the method, a 5kVA LCI system prototype is implemented, and the proposed initial angle detector and the system performance are confirmed by experimental results from standstill to 900rpm.

The motor power of the industry to use the electric energy is gradually increased. The electric motor generates a voltage drop in the starting current during startup. The starting current is started it is difficult to have an adverse effect on neighboring power systems with large motor starting when the voltage drop across the power grid. In addition to that the motor torque according to the load depending on the size of the rotation speed is changed to a motor start-up speed is important. However, the distance to the emergency generator transformers or motors from the motor capacity is smaller but short and difficult to maneuver the theory and practice of the operating characteristics of the starting characteristics of the motor used a lot of large industrial plants were measured and analyzed. Therefore, this study investigated the motor starting Analysis and interpretation for the relationship with the large motor starting torque and speed during motor starting.
