As widely known major cause of tooth discoloration is red blood cell in dentinal tubules after tooth trauma and extirpation. Hemoglobin in the red cells easily conbine with hydrogen sulfide and change natural tooth color into dark brown. To confirm and compare the effect of bleaching agents test material was made as fellows: No. 40 paper points were soaked in blood and put into the oven for 24 hours to dry. Dried paper points were again soaked in diluted yolk by distilled water for a minute and kept the points for a week to get fully sulfide. Hydrogen peroxide (25%), Sodium hypochlorite (2%), Sodium hyposulfate (2%), Sodium perborate and mixture of Hydrogen peroxide (25%) and Sodium perborate were employed as bleaching agents. About 0.2ml of each medicaments were put into the small test tubes and blood soaked paper points were gently placed vertically with the apex downward and kept 24 hours in the oven ($37^{\circ}C$). Every 24 hours the medicaments were renewed at 24 and 48 hours. Following are the results of the study: 1. Significant bleaching effect was found on the case of hydrogen peroxide (25%) after 24 hours. The area above 2mm from apex also fully bleached after 48 hours. 2. A mixture of hydrogen peroxide and sodium perborate treated case showed moderate effect at 24 hours and significant effect at 48 hours. High portion of the point (above 2mm) was bleached satisfactory at 72 hours. 3. The effect of sodium perborate at 48 hours showed moderate and significant at 72 hours. 4. Sodium hypochlorite and sodium hyposulfate were weak agent in bleaching. At 72 hours case revealed moderate effect and influenced on high portion of the point very weak effect.
Tooth mobility is one of the most important clinical parameters in examination, diagnosis, prognosis and treatment planning procedure. In order to determine the differences of tooth mobility according to radiographical bone level, clinical root length, clinical crown/root ratio, and bleeding on probing, 90 male adults with periodontal disease and 10 male adults with periodontal health($25{\sim}45$ years old) were selected through clinical examinations including occlusal relationship, probing depth, attachment level, and bleeding on probing. On the mandibular anterior teeth, standard periapical radiographs were taken, and tooth mobility was measured by Periotest(Siemens Co., Germany). The radiographic bone level of individual tooth was evaluated as coronal 1/3, middle 1/3, and apical 1/3 to anatomical root length, and clinical crown length from incisal edge to bone level and clinical root length from bone level to root apex were measured with Boley gauge, and subsquently clinical crown/root ratio was calculated. The difference of tooth mobility(Periotest value) according to radiographical bone level, clinical root length, clinical crown/root ratio, and bleeding on probing was statistically analyzed by unpaired Student t-test. Tooth mobility was significantly higher in bleeding group than non-bleeding group on probing in the teeth radiographic bone level of middle 1/3, with clinical root length longer than 6mm, and with clinical crown/root ratio over 0.3(p<0.01). But there was no statistical difference in tooth mobility between bleeding group and non-bleeding group on probing in the teeth with radiographic bone level of apical 1/3, with short clinical root length less than 5mm, and with clinical crown/root ratio under 0.2(p>0.05). The results note that the tooth mobility depends on clinical root length, clinical crown/root ratio and gingival inflammation, and in the teeth with relatively good alveolar bone support gingival inflammation is one of the most important factors that affect tooth mobility.

The author observed the eruption pattern of the mandibular premolars. For this study the author took 406 cases of oblique cephalographs of 6 to 12 year old children. The measurement were with regard to the vertical and horizontal dimensional changes and tooth axis changes to the occlusal plane. The following results were obtained. 1. At stage V the tooth axis of 1st premolar inclined mesially to the occlusal plane, as the tooth erupt toward vertically the angulation changed that at stage X the tooth axis almost right angle to the occlusal plane. 2. The distance from the root apex of premolars to the lower border of mandible were slightly increased to the stage VII, while after stage VII rapid increasing appeared. At stage X the distance of 1st premolar was more longer than 2nd premolar. 3. The distance from the mesial surface of 1st molar to the mesial surface of premolars were decreased slightly to the stage VII, but this distances were decreased rapidly after stage VII. 4. The distance between distal surface of 1st premolar and mesial surface of 2nd premolar was almost constant before stage VIII, at stage IX this distance was little presented because the premolars were contacted.
Age determination in children have been criticized because they rely on subjective estimations of tooth development, as seen in radiographs. This study was undertaken to obtain the objective estimation of developing teeth. The panoramic radiograph of 254 males and 254 females ranging from 6 to 14 years of age were studied. The structures measured were crown height, apex width and root length. The data weree statistically investigated with SPSS/PC + package. The results were as follows : 1. With the aid of a multiple regression model, a linear relationship between some of these distances and age was shown. 2. In th total material(6-14yr) and four-yr. intervals, linear equations are as follow : Boys : 6-14 age = 683 + 145.6 44RL + 126.6.45RL + 71.1 46DRL - 161.3 46DAW 6-10 age = 1202 + 72.6 46DRL + 100.2 44RL + 75.1 45RL 8-12 age = 3818 + 75.9 45RL - 190.9 44AW 10-14 age = 4151 + 58.6 45RL - 84.0 45AW - 130.6 44AW Girls : 6-14 age = 1587 + 104.9 45RL + 113.4 44RL - 233.1 46DAW + 81.4 47DRL - 255.9 46MAW 6-10 age = 1821 + 55.8 46DRL + 67.2 45RL - 184.2 46MAW + 56.3 44RL 8-12 age = 2435 + 68.2 45RLL + 71.3 44RL 10-14 age = 3485 + 49.9 47DRL - 51.3 45AW - 179.9 47DAW + 33.4 45RL + 39.4 44RL (DRL, length of distal root in molars. The purpose of this study was to analyze the magnitude and distribution of stress using photoelastic model with the rigid connection using T-block attachment and non-rigid connection using key & keyway attachment. The vertical load of 16 Kg was applied on the central fossa of the tooth, the pontic and the implant, and the pattern and distribution under each condition was analyzed. The following results were obtained : 1. In case of vertical load on the central fossa of the implant, the stress was concentrated at the apex of the implant involving the mesial alveolar bone in both fixed partial denture with the rigid connection and that with the nonrigid connection and the stress concentration at the mesial cervical area of the implant was a little more in the nonrigid connection than in the rigid connection. 2. In case of vertical load on the central fossa of the pontic, the stress was concentrated at the apex of 2nd bicuspid in both 3 unit fixed partial denture with nonrigid connection and that with the rigid connection. The stress was more concentrated at the mesial alveolar bone of the implant, but the stress distribution at the natural teeth more favorable at the rigid connection than at the non-rigid connection in case of 4 unit fixed partial denture. 3. In case of vertical load of the central fossa of the 2nd bicuspid, much stress with 3 fringe order was observed at the apex of the 2nd bicuspid in the 3 unit fixed partial denture, but relatively even stress distribution was observed at the apex of the implant, the 1st and 2nd bicuspid, and the adjacent cuspid in the 4 unit fixed partial denture.
Purpose: This study determined and compared the distances from the maxillary root apices of posterior teeth to the floor of the maxillary sinus, or maxillary sinus distances(MSDs), and the distances from the mandibular root apices of the posterior teeth to the mandibular canal, or mandibular canal distances(MCDs), in Thai subjects with skeletal open bite and skeletal normal bite. Materials and Methods: Pretreatment cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) images were obtained from 30 Thai orthodontic patients (15 patients with skeletal normal bite and 15 with skeletal open bite) whose ages ranged from 14 to 28 years. The CBCT images of the patients were processed and measured using the Romexis Viewer program. The MSDs and MCDs from the root apices of the maxillary and mandibular second premolar, first molar, and second molar to the maxillary sinus floor or the mandibular canal were measured perpendicularly to the occlusal plane. The Student t test was used for comparisons between the 2 groups. Results: The greatest mean MSDs were from the root apex of the second premolars in both groups, whereas the least mean MSDs were from the mesiobuccal root apex of the second molars. The greatest mean MCDs were from the mesial root apex of the first molars, whereas the least mean MCDs were from the distal root apex of the second molars. Conclusion: There were no differences in the mean MSDs or the mean MCDs between the skeletal normal bite group and the skeletal open bite group.

Objectives: The aim of this in vivo study was to assess the accuracy of 2 third-generation electronic apex locators (EALs), Propex II (Dentsply Maillefer) and Root ZX II (J. Morita), and radiographic technique for locating the major foramen (MF). Materials and Methods: Thirty-two premolars with single canals that required extraction were included. Following anesthesia, access, and initial canal preparation with size 10 and 15 K-flex files and SX and S1 rotary ProTaper files, the canals were irrigated with 2.5% sodium hypochlorite. The length of the root canal was verified 3 times for each tooth using the 2 apex locators and once using the radiographic technique. Teeth were extracted and the actual WL was determined using size 15 K-files under a ${\times}25$ magnification. The Biostat 4.0 program (AnalystSoft Inc.) was used for comparing the direct measurements with those obtained using radiographic technique and the apex locators. Pearson's correlation analysis and analysis of variance (ANOVA) were used for statistical analyses. Results: The measurements obtained using the visual method exhibited the strongest correlation with Root ZX II (r = 0.94), followed by Propex II (r = 0.90) and Ingle's technique (r = 0.81; p < 0.001). Descriptive statistics using ANOVA (Tukey's post hoc test) revealed significant differences between the radiographic measurements and both EALs measurements (p < 0.05). Conclusions: Both EALs presented similar accuracy that was higher than that of the radiographic measurements obtained with Ingle's technique. Our results suggest that the use of these EALs for MF location is more accurate than the use of radiographic measurements.

The purpose of this study was to compare the leakage of four different obturation techniques in conjunction with immediate apical barrier of ${\beta}$-tricalcium phosphate(TCP) in teeth with open apex. Eighty single-rooted human premolar teeth were prepared and sectioned horizontally, so maximum diameter in apex was 4mm. Apical defects that were similar to open apex, were created with #1/2 round bur and SF104R bur. The apical foramen were opened to a size 80 file extended 3mm beyond the apex. The teeth were placed into the oasis block soaked saline to simulate periapical tissue often associated with pulpless teeth and received apical barriers consisting of TCP followed by obturation using lateral condensation technique, vertical condensation technique, continuous wave technique and thermoplasticized gutta-percha injection technique. Two unobturated teeth served as positive and negative controls. Teeth were immersed in resorcinol-formaldehyde resin for S days at $4^{\circ}C$, and the resin was allowed to polymerize completely for 4 days at room temperature. Teeth were then sectioned horizontally at 1.5mm(level 1), 2.5mm(level 2) and 3.5mm(level 3) from the apex, and examined under a stereomicroscope at ${\times}40$ magnification. The photographs were taken at ${\times}40$ magnification of the filling in each level and scanned. The leakage length in tooth/resin interface was measured at each of the three levels. Each ratio of leakage was obtained by calculating the ratio of the leakage length of canal wall infiltrated with resin to the total length of the canal and was analyzed statistically(One-way ANOVA and Scheffe test). The result were as follows : 1. At the level 1, there was the least leakage in the thermoplasticized gutta-percha injection technique group(group 4), but there was statistically significant(p<0.05). 2. At the level 2, there was the least leakage in the thermoplasticized gutta-percha injection technique group(group 4), and the most leakage in the continuous wave technique group(group 3). There was statistically significant difference between the thermoplasticized gutta-percha injection technique group and the continuous wave technique group(p<0.05). 3. At the level 3, there was the least leakage in the thermoplasticized gutta-percha injection technique group(group 4), but there were no statistically significant differences between other groups(p>0.05). These results suggest that thermoplasticized gutta-percha injection technique which had 1mm apical gutta-percha matrix after the formation of TCP apical barrier, can demonstrate favorable apical sealing.

This study was performed to simulate various sizes of periapical lesions and condensing osteitis in bone and to clarify that condensing osteitis would give a greater radiographic contrast because of the more radiopacity immediately adjacent to the lesion and what the lamina dura on radiogram is in bone. For this study, two dry and wet human adult mandible and a cadaver were used. Each mandible was sectioned longitudinally to split lingual and buccal cortical plates to gain better access to the apex of tooth. Lesions were gradually enlarged and bordered with tooth ash that burned out at 950℃ for the reproduction of condensing osteitis in sequence. The serial radiograms were taken under the constantly maintained condition and compared with the actual lesions.
