In the current paper, a cold forging sequence was developed to manufacture a precisely cold forged H/Lower, which is used as the air back unit in commercial automobiles. The preform shape of the H/Lower influences the dimensional accuracy and stiffness of the final product. The shape factor (SF) ratio and shape of the tools are considered as the design parameters to achieve adequate backward extrusion height and maintain appropriate thickness variations. The optimal conditions of the design parameters were determined by using an artificial neural network (ANN). To experimentally verify the optimal preform and tool shapes, the experiments of the backward extrusion of the H/Lower were executed. The process design methodology proposed in the current paper, can provide a more systematic and economically feasible means for designing the preform and tool shapes for cold forging.
These experiments were designed to evaluate the possibility of brain-stem auditory evoked responses(BAER) as a diagnostic tool for deafness in dogs. The BAER was recorded from three different groups of dogs; the normal dogs,'dog with otitis externa and dogs with unilateral destruction of cochlear. BAER of the normal dogs was consisted of distinct five peaks(I, II, III-IV, V). Furthermore, the clear shapes of waveform were observed at 85 dB. The latency of BAER was increased with reducing the intensity of sound-stimulus. The highest threshold of BAER was measured at 2 KHz with 10-30 dB. Dog with otitis externs demonstrated unclear shapes of BAER compared to the that of normal dogs. In the dogs with unilateral destruction of cochlear, the flat and indistinct waveform of BAER was recorded from the cochlear destroyed ear while that of BAER from normal side of ears did not show any differences from the normal BAER. These results indicate that the BAER can be clinically used in order to diagnose the deafness in dogs.
A developed hybrid method for crack identification of beams is presented. Based on the Euler-Bernouli beam theory and concepts of fracture mechanics, governing equation of the cracked beams is reformulated. Finite element (FE) method as a powerful numerical tool is used to discritize the equation in space domain. After transferring the equations from time domain to frequency domain, frequencies and mode shapes of the beam are obtained. Efficiency of the governed equation for free vibration analysis of the beams is shown by comparing the results with those available in literature and via ANSYS software. The used equation yields to move the influence of cracks from the stiffness matrix to the mass matrix. For crack identification measured data are produced by applying random error to the calculated frequencies and mode shapes. An objective function is prepared as root mean square error between measured and calculated data. To minimize the function, hybrid genetic algorithms (GAs) and particle swarm optimization (PSO) technique is introduced. Efficiency, Robustness, applicability and usefulness of the mixed optimization numerical tool in conjunction with the finite element method for identification of cracks locations and depths are shown via solving different examples.
While many surfaces such as automobile outer panels, ship hulls and airfoils are characterized by their smooth, free-form shapes, a far larger class of functional surfaces are characterized by highly irregular, multi-featured shapes consisting of pockets, channels, ribs, etc. In constaract to the design of aesthetic, free-form surfaces, functional surface design can perhaps best be viewed as a process of assembling a collection of known component surfaces to form a single compound surface. In this paper, we presents a feature-based functional surface modeling method. A single feature involves a secondary surface, which we must join to a primary surface with a smooth transition between two boundary courves. Through recursive blending of a secondary surface with the primary surface, the mullti-featured surface is represented. After constructing a compound surface, we generate the Z-map for NC machining of the surface. Offsetting the Z-map using the inverse offsetting technique, we get CL tool paths with out gouging.
Micro EDM process is generally used for machining microholes, cavities, and three dimensional shapes. For machining micro structures, first of all, micro tool electrode is indispensable and WEDG system is proposed for tool fabrication method. When using WEDG, its machining characteristics are highly affected by many EDM parameters such as applied voltage, current, rotation speed, capacitance, and pulse duration. Therefore, the design of experiment is introduced to fully understand the effect of the EDM parameters on machining tool electrode. And an attempt has been made to develop the mathematical model for predicting the size of the tool electrode by calculating spark distance. The suggested model was verified with experiment and predicted working gap distance is in good accord with the measured value.
In this study, the Ball screw and Servo motor Mechanism is considered as a High Speed Tool Feed System for the machining of a piston of a reciprocating engine. For the machining of a piston, that shapes oval, high speed servo mechanism is needed as a positioning of a cutting tool, and the stroke of tool is 0.1 mm ~ 1 mm. Ball screw and servo motor Mechanism is available very much because this mechanism is used widely in general machine. This Mechanism has been designed with the use of the decrease in mass and partial wear of the ball screw for high speed positioning of tool. Also the periodic learning control method with the inverse transfer function compensation has been applied to the positioning control for the high accuracy positioning of tool. These applications lead the achievement of the machining of a piston with an accuracy of 5${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ at 2500 rpm in CNC turning.
The sensitivity method has been applied to find perform shape that results in the desired shape after foring. As a 2D example, initial shape of specimen for the cylinder shape without barrelling after forging has been found. The method is then applied to various shapes of 3D free forging and initial shapes of the corresponding specimens after forging have been found successfully The sensitivity method is proven to be an effective and accurate tool for the preform design.
Natural vibration of the rotor system having multi-step cross-sections is analyzed. The rotary inertia and the shear deformation are considered. Torque is also included in order to simulate the power transmission system. The complex displacement and the variable separation are introduced. The exact solutions in uniform cross-section segment and the boundary conditions are used. Natural frequencies and mode shapes are obtained, especially the mode shapes are countinuous.
Workpiece materials may be relatively easy to machine by traditional methods but workpiece geometry also may be a constraint. Many shapes that are geometrically difficult to handle conventionally may be candidates for nontraditional processes. Nontraditional processes provide new opportunities for product design innovation and productivity improvements. Difficult-to-machine materials of geometric shapes difficult o produce with traditional equipment and tooling, may often be easily and cost effectively machined using nontraditional processes. Notraditional machining processes are relative newcomers o the manufacturing arena. Nontraditional chemical solutions, or even electrolytic current as the working medium rather than a conventional cutting tool or abrasive to remove or shape materials.
This paper concerns the die face design for a heat protect panel aided by the finite element forming analysis in order to eliminate the surface defect and to improve the surface quality. The CAE procedure of the stamping process is introduced in order to reveal the reason of surface inferiorities and to improve surface quality. Complicated shape of the product induces the surface inferiorities such as wrinkling due to the insufficient restraining force of the forming blank and the non-uniform contact of the blank with the tools. This paper proposes a new guideline for the die design which includes the modification of tool shapes and addition of the draw-beads on the tool surface for ensuring the increased the restraining force with the uniform contact condition. The effectiveness of the proposed design is verified by the forming analysis and is confirmed by the tryout operation in the press shop. The analysis and test results show that the modified process parameters such as tool shapes and draw-beads can reduce the tendency of wrinkling and improve surface quality.
