  • In this paper we deal with tool interference problem in the case of compound surface machining. A new tool interference detection and correction method based on the envelope of the tool path is suggested to identify and correct the tool interference - not only within the local path of tool movement, but also outside of the tool path. Therefore, the developed strategy can be used to check the possible interference in any region of the surface. In order to analyze quantitatively the milled surface error produced by the tool interference, improved surface prediction model is also suggested in cutting process by general cutters. The effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated through simulation study.

  • This paper describes in detail the processing path leading to successful phase images stitching in digital holographic microscope for the extension of the field of view. It applies FIJI Grid/Collection Stitching Plugin, which is a general tool for images stitching, non-specific for phase images. The FIJI plugin is extensively supported by aberration and phase offset correction. Comparative analysis of different aberration correction methods and data processing strategies is presented, together with the critical analysis of their applicability. The proposed processing path provides good background for statistical phase analysis of cell cultures and digital phase pathology.

  • Free-form surfaces arise in shipbuilding, automotive and aerospace industries. Specially compound free-form surfaces so do. Machining complicated products consist of compound surface, it is very important to avold and remove tool interferences. By the way, in compound surfaces the tool interference can occur not only in the tool path direction but also in the other direction. A new tool interference detection and correction using tool interference conditions is suggested to identify and correct the tool interference in compound surfaces.

  • The inverse kinematics of five-axis milling machines produce large errors near stationary points of the required surface. When the tool travels cross or around the point the rotation angles may jump considerably leading to unexpected deviations from the prescribed trajectories. We propose three new algorithms to repair the trajectories by adjusting the rotation angles in such a way that the kinematics error is minimized. Given the tool orientations and the inverse kinematics of the machine, we first eliminate the jumping angles exceeding ${\pi}$ by using the angle adjustment algorithm, leaving the jumps less than ${\pi}$ to be further optimized. Next, we propose to apply an angle switching algorithm to compute the rotations and identify an optimized sequence of rotations by the shortest path scheme. Further error reduction is accomplished by the angle insertion algorithm based an o special interpolation to obtain the required rotations near the singularity. We have verified the algorithms by five-axis milling machines, namely, MAHO600E at the CIM Lab of Asian Institute of Technology and HERMLE UWF902H at the CIM Lab of Kasetsart University.

  • The reference stations in a satellite-based augmentation system (SBAS) collect raw data from global navigation satellite system (GNSS) to generate correction and integrity information. The multipath signals degrade GNSS raw data quality and have adverse effects on the SBAS performance. The currently operating SBASs (WAAS and EGNOS, etc.) survey existing commercial equipment to perform multipath assessment around the antennas. For the multi-path assessment, signal power of GNSS and multipath at the MEDLL receiver of NovAtel were estimated and the results were replicated by a ratio of signal power estimated at NovAtel Multipath Assessment Tool (MAT). However, the same experiment environment used in existing systems cannot be configured in reference stations in Korean augmentation satellite system (KASS) due to the discontinued model of MAT and MEDLL receivers used in the existing systems. This paper proposes a test environment for multipath assessment around the antennas in KASS Multipath Assessment Tool (K-MAT) for multipath assessment. K-MAT estimates a multipath error contained in the code pseudorange using linear combination between the measurements and replicates the results through polar plot and histogram for multipath assessment using the estimated values.

  • This paper presents a new algorithm on low power survivor path memory implementation of the trace-back systolic array Viterbi algorithm. A novel idea is to reuse the already-generated trace-back routes to reduce the number of trace-back operations. And the spurious switching activity of the trace-back unit is reduced by making use of a clock gating method. Using the SYNOPSYS power estimation tool, DesignPower, our experimental result shows the average $40{\%}$ power reduction and $23{\%}$ area increase against the trace-back unit introduced in [1].

  • Fracture detection has always been very attractive to the log, because it is important in many of our prospecting activities, e.g. in understanding the underground rock formation and also the fluid flow as a high permeability path. This paper demonstrates the use of high resolution borehole acoustic scanner for the detection of fractures. The tool, known as Televiewer, is the first acoustic borehole imaging system to use a focussed beam. The acoustic beams generated by a single transducer are sent toward the borehole wall, scanning the wall in a tight helix as the tool moves along the borehole. The amplitudes and travel times of the reflected signals are then measured, which produces the corresponding images. The highly resolved amplitude image allows to recognize various size of fractures and in addition to derive the rock strength from the image. Meanwhile, the travel time image itself can be directly converted to a precise caliper image, providing detailed information of deviations of the borehole shape. It also allows correction of and explanations for amplitude variations. Field measurements were carried Out at the Cheongyang study sites in Korea to illustrate the efficiency of the televiewer log.

  • The display technology on the retina is the key role in inspecting the condition of the patients. 2-dimensional retina image is widely used in the eye examination as of today. Recently, 3-dimensional retina image ones have been introduced to this area, but the quality of the image is not fully satisfied to the operator. For the purpose of developing 3-D retina imaging instrument, the optimization of a 3-D retina imaging system using Code-V tool was investigated in this thesis. He-Ne laser having the wavelength 632.8 nm was used to make a power source to detect the retina. Several lenses and mirrors installed on sledge which were developed to perform focus control on 3-D device were designed to make a beam focusing and direct line. Polygon scanner having 24 mirror facets and galvanometer making tilting movement were utilized to make a 2-D laser plane. Also, design of eye ball had been fulfilled to see the focus of the 2-D plane. Reflected ray from retina detected on the sensor array with the same path. All cognitive components were optimized for aberration correction in order to focus on retina. Results of optimization were compared to those of initial designed optics system. On the basis of above results, the result of third aberration has been corrected to stable values to the optical system. MTF evaluating the resolution of an image has been closely correlated to the diffraction limit and PSF indicating the strength distribution of an image has shown the SR value as 0.9998 having high performance. The possibility of new and powerful 3-D retina image instrument was verified by simulating each component of the instrument by Code-V.
