  • In order to realize the function of human interface of telecommunications whose objective is to interchange useful information among persons, we developed a bone conduction telephone with which hearing impaired persons with conductive or noise-induced hearing loss and presbycusis can communicate with each other without any other additional devices such as hearing aids. The bone conduction telephone we developed has chatacteristics as follows : (i) a hearing impaired person and a normal hearing person can communicate by bone and air conduction hearings, respectively, using only this telephone set because, as its receiver, it uses a bone conduction vibrator with which we can realize such function with the voice coil and damper of a small speaker unit, the vibrating plate, etc., (ii) it has tone control function compensating hearing losses of hearing impaired persons according to their hearing loss/frequency chatacteristics. Using the tone control function together with a received volume control, it has the received volume range of 20dB in loudness rating; and (iii) it has the function of three emergency calls and a bell lamp as the visual display of a received call.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to find out the efficacy of ginseng on the skin by comparing the difference effect between only MTS (microneedle therapy system) and the ginseng solution application after MTS treatment. Methods : The present author performed once a week and total 3 times of MTS treatment. The treatment time took about 5~10 minutes and the depth of the needle was adjusted according to the participant's skin condition. In the control group, skin toner was applied after MTS and in the experimental group, ginseng extract dissolved toner was applied. One week after each treatment, the change of skin condition was measured. Two weeks after the end of the clinical trial, the skin condition was checked again. Results : In the case of t-zone oil, there was a significant decrease in the test group and in the case of pores and pigmentation, there was a significant decrease in both the test group and the control group, but the degree of significance was greater in the test group. In the case of skin tone, there was an increase, but no significance. Conclusion : The MTS treatment itself showed good effects on t-zone oil, pores, pigmentation, and skin tone. But the effect was much better when the ginseng extract solution was applied to the skin after MTS treatment. This study suggests that ginseng solution increases the efficacy of MTS.

One week after each treatment, the change of skin condition was measured. Two weeks after the end of the clinical trial, the skin condition was checked again. Results : In the case of the test group and the control group, there was a significant decrease in thermography temperature and there was a significant increase in skin tone. In the case of pores and pigmentation, there was no significant difference on both group. In the case of moisture, there was a significant increase only in the test group. Conclusion : The MTS treatment itself showed good effects on thermography temperature and skin tone. But in the case of the moisture effect, it was much better when the CCIS essence was applied to the skin after MTS treatment. This study suggests that CCIS essence increases the efficacy of MTS on the point of moisture.

  • In this paper, we propose a simple algorithm to calculate the numbers of the passing cars by using an image processing sensor for the digital black and white images with 256 tone level. Shadow is one of the most troublesome factor in image processing. By differencing the tone level, we cannot discriminate between the body of the car and its shadow. In our proposed algorithm, the area of the shadow is excluded by recognizing the position of each traffic lane. For real-time operation and simple calculation, two lines of the tone level are extracted and the existences of cars are recognized. In the experimental application on a high-way, the recognition rate of the real-time operation is more than 94%.

  • The inner hair cell stereocilia of the guinea pig cochlea was examined under a scanning electron microscope (SEM) after loud tone exposure onto the ear drum of the animal. Before and after guinea pigs were exposed to intensive and continuous tone such as 106 dB SPL in intensity, the functioning of the cochlea was monitored by N1-N2 audiograms. The structural damage of the stereocilia of inner hair cells (IHCs) and outer hair cells (OHCs) was examined using the SEM in x 1500 magnification. The comparison between the functional change of the cochlea and the structural damage of the IHC stereocilia is done by means of photographic observation. It can be shown that the functional change might be related to the structural damage of the IHC stereocilia after intensive acoustic trauma.

  • In order to analyse the mechanism of a flow tone around a cavity, the correlations between the flow in the cavity and the boundary layer flow in front of the cavity are studied experimentally in this paper. The instability In the boundary layer forms the vortex at the front edge of the cavity and the flow tone is occurred by the vortex breakdown at the rear edge of the cavity Therefore, the boundary layer measurement is important in the cavity flow control. We measure the velocity of the boundary layer at the entrance of the cavity using hot-wire anemometry and the flow tone around the cavity by microphone. The boundary layer characteristic is changed by the various angle of the flap on the front edge of the cavity, while it is less influenced by the ratio of length and depth of the cavity.

  • In this work, we have investigated a role of linking parameter in Pulse-Coupled Neural Network(PCNN) which is suggested to explain the synchronous activities among neurons in the cat cortex. Then we have found a method to determine the linking parameter for a satisfactory face detection performance in a given color image. Face detection algorithm which uses the color information is independent on pose, size and obstruction of a face. But the use of color information encounters some problems arising from skin-tone color in the background, intensity variation within faces, and presence of random noise and so on. Depending on these conditions, PCNN's linking parameters should be selected an appropriate values. First we obtained the mean and variance of the skin-tone colors by experiments. Then, we introduced a preprocess that the pixel with a mean value of skin-tone colors has the highest level value (255) and the other pixels have values between 0 and 255 according to normal distribution with a variance. This preprocessing leads to an easy decision of the linking parameter of the Pulse-Coupled Neural Network. Through experiments, it is verified that the proposed method can improve the face detection performance compared to the existing methods.

  • This paper proposes a novel memory effect measurement technique in RF power amplifiers(PAs) using a two-tone intermodulation distortion(IMD) signal with a very simple and intuitive algorithm. Based on the proposed predistortive tone cancellation technique, the proposed measurement method is capable of measuring the relative phase and magnitude of the third-order and fifth-order IMDs, as well as the fundamental signal. The measured relative phase between the higher and lower IMD signal for specific tone spacing can be interpreted as the group delay(GD) information of the IMD signal concerned. From the group delay analysis, we can conclude that an adaptive control of GD as well as the magnitude and phase is a key function in increasing the linearization bandwidth and the dynamic range in a predistortion(PD) technique.

  • To improve the cooperative efficiency of node cooperation and multiple access performance for multihop wireless networks, a priority-differentiated cooperative medium access control protocol with contention resolution (CRP-CMAC) is proposed. In the protocol, the helper selection process is divided into the priority differentiation phase and the contention resolution phase for the helpers with the same priority. A higher priority helper can choose an earlier minislot in the priority differentiation phase to send a busy tone. As a result, the protocol promptly selects all the highest priority helpers. The contention resolution phase of the same priority helpers consists of k round contention resolution procedures. The helpers that had sent the first busy tone and are now sending the longest busy tone can continue to the next round, and then the other helpers that sense the busy tone withdraw from the contention. Therefore, it can select the unique best helper from the highest priority helpers with high probability. A packet piggyback mechanism is also adopted to make the high data rate helper with packet to send transmit its data packets to its recipient without reservation. It can significantly decrease the reservation overhead and effectively improve the cooperation efficiency and channel utilization. Simulation results show that the maximum throughput of CRP-CMAC is 74%, 36.1% and 15% higher than those of the 802.11 DCF, CoopMACA and 2rcMAC protocols in a wireless local area network (WLAN) environment, and 82.6%, 37.6% and 46.3% higher in an ad hoc network environment, respectively.
