Fundamental experiences have been studied for development of pre-treatment process of Sn by-products such as solders. Dry and wet separation/recovery processes were considered by the differences of physical properties. The by-products, which are analyzed by solder metal and oxides. The metal and oxide were simply separated by dry ball-milling process for 12 hours, after that recovery metal powder might be reusable as lead or lead-free solders. In terms of wet separation process, samples were dissolved in $HNO_3+H_2O_2$ and the precipitation were analyzed by $SnO_2$. Overall efficiency of recovery might be increasing via developing simple pre-treatment process.

It is very necessary for the metal recycling industries and the researchers to understand the current status of demand and supply of non-ferrous metals and their scraps. Domestic demand and supply of non-ferrous metals and their scraps have been surveyed and reported on the journal of the Korean Institute of Resources Recycling since ten years before. However, it was confined to six major non-ferrous metals such as copper, aluminum, zinc, lead, nickel and magnesium because there are so many kind of non-ferrous metals. In this article also, demand and supply of these non-ferrous metals in addition tin during recent five years (2014 ~ 2018) in Korean markets were reviewed, and their recycling ratio of scraps were briefly estimated. The statistical data were mainly cited from the data issued by Korea Customs Service (KCS) and Korea Non-Ferrous Metal Association, and some fragmental published review articles from magazines and other technical reports.
Cemented carbides material (WC-Co hard alloy) were recognized very important and expensive tool or die assembly parts because of compose for the main elements of rare metal (W and Co etc). This research was developed to separate and recover of WC fine powder contained by WC-Co materials. Recycling process was a new method named by the Tin impregnation for decobaltification on cemented carbides. This reaction occurred to product a brittle Co-Sn intermetallic compounds, thereafter it carried out by acid cleaning solution and physical milling or powdering. New process was able to recover about 60% WC fine powder from 1 to 5 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$.
In order to separate Indium and Tin from spent indium tin oxide (ITO) sludge, direct hydrochloric acid leaching and thermal reduction followed by HCl leaching were applied. In case of direct leaching of spent ITO, leaching rate of In and Sn was 18.5% and 19.95%, respectively. Whereas, in case of thermal hydrogen treatment of ITO sludge at different temperatures such as $700^{\circ}C$, $800^{\circ}C$, $900^{\circ}C$ and $1100^{\circ}C$, followed by HCl leaching, we obtained the result of more than 97% leaching rate of Sn. Specially, thermal treatment at $800^{\circ}C$ showed the highest leaching rate of 98.2% of Sn. Precipitation method was used for separation and recovery of Sn from leached mixed solution. If the solution pH were adjusted 2.0, 99.69% of Sn precipitated and 10.3% of In was precipitated. This confirmed the possibility of separation of Sn and In from leached solution by precipitation method.
In this study, waste ITO target is dissolved into hydrochloric acid to generate a complex indium-tin chloride solution. Nano sized ITO powder with an average particle size below 30 nm are generated from these raw material solutions by spray pyrolysis process. Also, in this study, thermodynamic equations for the formation of indium-tin oxide (ITO) are established. As the reaction temperature increased from $800^{\circ}C$ to $900^{\circ}C$, the proportion and size of the spherical droplet shape in which nano sized particles aggregated gradually decreased, and the surface structure gradually became densified. When the reaction temperature was $800^{\circ}C$, the average particle size of the generated powder was about 20 nm, and no significant sintering was observed. At a reaction temperature of $900^{\circ}C$, the split of the droplet was more severe than at $800^{\circ}C$, and the rate of maintenance of the initial atomized droplet shape decreased sharply. The average particle size of the powder formed was about 25 nm. The ITO particles were composed of single solid crystals, regardless of reaction temperature. XRD analysis showed that only the ITO phase was formed. Remarkably, the specific surface area decreased by about 30% as the reaction temperature increased from $800^{\circ}C$ to $900^{\circ}C$.
Recycling method of waste LCD glass is the essential process for developing the total recycling process of LCD pannel. Pulverizing of LCD glass, determination of proper carbonacious foaming agent, the properties of residue from the recovery of valuable materials through an acid leaching process and the feasibility for the foaming of the residue obtained from leaching for indium and tin recovery were investigated for the developing of recycling method of waste LCD glass as industrial feed materials, such as heat insulation materials, sound absorbing materials, carrier of water treatment. Waste LCD glass could be pulverized finely for foaming process. Natural graphite was proper agent for foaming of the residue and the foaming technology of LCD glass would be effective recycling alternatives.
Fundamental study has been made on the recovery of copper from the electronic scrap by hydrometallurgical process. Nitric acid was used as a leaching agent to dissolve the metals such as Cu, Sn, Pb, Fe etc. from the crushed electronic scraps. TBP was employed to extract nitric acid from the strong nitric acid leaching solutions and to reclaim nitric acid. From the experimental results, Cu was effectively leached by 3.0-4.0 M nitric acid. And 95% of nitric acid in the leaching solution was extracted by 60% TBP, and 98% of nitric acid was stripped from the loaded organic phase by distilled water and it was possible to reuse as a leaching agent.
Leaching experiments of anode slime were performed with several inorganic acids (HCl, $HNO_3$ and $H_2SO_4$) together with thiourea and thiosulfate solution to recover gold and silver. Gold was not dissolved at all into these inorganic acids in the absence of any oxidizing agents. At the same concentration of inorganic acid, the leaching of percentage of Ag was the highest in the sulfuric acid solution. The leaching percentage of silver increased with the increase of HCl concentration owing to the formation of $AgCl_2{^-}$. Copper, nickel and zinc except tin was almost dissolved in these inorganic acids but no tin was dissolved in nitric acid solution. Most of Au and Ag were dissolved into the mixture of sulfuric acid and thiourea solution. Thiosulfate could dissolve some silver from the anode slime but no gold was dissolved by this agent.
Indium (In) is widely used for transparent electrodes of photovoltaics as a form of indium tin oxide (ITO) due to its superior characteristics of environmental stability, relatively low electrical resistivity and high transparency to visible light. However, In has been worn off in proportion to growth the In related market, and it leads to raise of price. Although In is obtained from ITO target scarps, much harmful elements are used for the recycling process. To decrease of harmful elements, ITO swarf particles obtained from target scraps was characterized whether it is feasible to transparent conductive oxide (TCO). The ITO swarf was crushed with milling process, and it was mixed with new ITO nanoparticles. The mixed particles were well dispersed into ink solvent to make-up an ink, and it was well coated onto glass substrate. After heat-treatment at $400^{\circ}C$ under $N_2$ rich environments, optical transmittance at 550 nm and sheet resistance of the ITO ink coated layer was 71.6% and $524.67{\Omega}/{\square}$, respectively. Therefore, it was concluded that the ITO swarf was feasible to TCO of touch screen panel.
Indium is one of the rare metals, and it has been used mainly for preparation of indium tin oxide (ITO). This review investigated the process parameters and the merits and demerits of several methods to recover indium from the leaching solution of secondary resources, such as solvent extraction, ion exchange, and precipitation. D2EHPA has been used mostly as a cationic extractant for indium extraction in moderate acid solutions, while amine extractants are used in strong hydrochloric acid solution. Since the loading capacity of resins for indium is generally small, ion exchange has some advantage over solvent extraction only when the concentration of indium is low.
