In this paper we propose an electronic domain timing phase selection scheme for the optical communication systems suffering from inter-symbol-interference (ISI) distortion due to chromatic dispersion (CD) or polarization mode dispersion (PMD). In the presence of CD/PMD a proper timing phase selection is important for discrete time domain equalizers, since different timing phases produce different nonlinear ISI channels of different severity. The proposed timing phase recovery scheme based on dispersion minimization (DM) practically approximates the optimal minimum mean squared error (MMSE) timing phase without training signals which reduces overall throughput substantially, especially in time-varying channels such as PMD. The simulation results show that the proposed DM timing agrees with MMSE timing phase, under proper normalization of the received signals, for various dispersion and OSNR.
In this paper, we propose an alternative carrier phase independent timing recovery method for VSB receivers. The Gardner algorithm may not estimate a timing offset in VSB systems when the residual carrier phase offset is contained in the signal. We use the conjugate multiplication of received signals for cancelling out the carrier phase offset. Then Gardner algorithm is employed for extracting the spectral line. The proposed method generates a consistent timing error even in the presence of the carrier phase offset.

In this paper, the convergence behavior of timing phase when an adaptive partial response equalizer and decision-directed type of a PLL work together in a digital recording channel is described. The phenomena of getting biased in timing phase when the convergence parameter of an adaptive partial response equalizer and timing recovery constant of a PLL are not selected properly is introduced. The phenomena, occurring due to perturbation of timing phase, are analyzed, by computer simulation and the region of ocnvergence for timing phase is discussed. Also, a method to overcome the phenomena using a variable step-size parameter is described.

In this paper, effective methods of symbol timing in a 9600 bps modem are presented. The symbol timing circuit consists of a square-low device followed by a high-Q narrow band-pass filter tuned to a symbol frequency. Also, the advantages of using a digital phase-tooted loop (DPLL) to suppress side tones are described, and statistical properties of timing wave are derived. In addition, the overall performances of the symbol timing circuit are verified by computer simulation.
A V2X system can be a candidate as a means to increase the stability of autonomous vehicles. In particular, in order to implement a Level 4 or higher autonomous driving system, the application of the V2X system is essential. Wireless communication technologies applicable to the V2X system include WAVE and C-V2X. Currently, the V2X service most used by autonomous driving systems is a service that provides signal phase and timing information and since real-time characteristic is a very important, verification of this service must be done. In this paper, we measured the time delay characteristics for providing signal phase and timing information using WAVE and LTE communication, and proposed a TOD-based signal phase and timing information generation method without using V2X communication system. To analyze the time delay characteristics, RTT (Round Trip Time) was measured as a result of the measurement. Average RTT using WAVE communication was 5.84ms and was 104.15ms with LTE communication. As a result of measuring the error between the signal phase and timing information generated based on TOD and the actual traffic light state, it was measured to be -0.284~3.784sec.
The purpose of this study is to develop a rhythm-based music intervention protocol to enhance timing regulation in children with ADHD and investigate its feasibility. For this purpose, a three-phase study was conducted involving ADHD children and typically developing children. In the first phase, group-specific baseline measurements were taken for auditory attention (KAT), motor timing, and perceptual timing. In the second phase, a rhythm-based music intervention protocol incorporating key factors was developed. In the third phase, the developed protocol was applied to ADHD children to investigate the variables affecting timing regulation and to verify its effectiveness. Results from the first phase revealed significant differences in the timing values of children with ADHD, particularly in tasks requiring discrimination of sound duration and precision in rhythm patterns. Additionally, exploratory factor analysis of KAT results and motor/perceptual timing identified three clusters: attentional responsiveness, attentional synchronization, and attentional sophistication. In the second phase, a protocol consisting of tasks involving synchronization, attentional shifting, and rhythm production at various difficulty levels was developed and validated for expert validity. In the third phase, individual application of the protocol to children with predominantly inattentive and hyperactive-impulsive ADHD subtypes demonstrated changes in timing regulation tasks. This study provided basic data for using rhythm as an effective facilitation tool that leads from voluntary to involuntary attention in children with ADHD.
THC(Total Hydrocarbon) emissions during cold start and warm-up phase constitute the majority of THC emissions during the FTP-75 mode. As the basic approach to improve the emission performance of Gasoline engine during transient phase, the effect of spark timing retard from MBT on THC emission characteristics is studied by engine test using a Fast response Flame Ionization Detector(FFID). A cyclic analysis of the combustion process shows that high THC emissions are produced first few cycles during the transient phase. This paper presents the results of engine performance and emission of Gasoline engine with various spark timing. consequently, This paper was focused on the combustion phenomena with various spark timing during transient phase which was analyzed by Fast response Flame Ionization Detector (FFID) equipment to measure the cyclic THC emission characteristics.
A wave difference method(WDH) phase detector for timing recovery is designed in the digital subscriber loop receiver. This paper describes the architecture and experimental results of the WDM, tankless timing extraction PLL. The results show that the designed WDM timing extraction circuit have stable jitter performance without the use of high precision LC tank circuit.
This paper presents a parallel processing searcher structure for the initial synchronization of a direct sequence ultra-wideband (DS-UWB) system, which is suitable for the digital implementation of baseband functionalities with a 1.32 Gsample/s chip rate analog-to-digital converter. An initial timing acquisition algorithm and a data demodulation method are also studied. The proposed searcher effectively acquires initial symbol and frame timing during the preamble transmission period. A hardware efficient receiver structure using 24 parallel digital correlators for binary phase-shift keying DS-UWB transmission is presented. The proposed correlator structure operating at 55 MHz is shared for correlation operations in a searcher, a channel estimator, and the demodulator of a RAKE receiver. We also present a pseudo-random noise sequence generated with a primitive polynomial, $1+x^2+x^5$, for packet detection, automatic gain control, and initial timing acquisition. Simulation results show that the performance of the proposed parallel processing searcher employing the presented pseudo-random noise sequence outperforms that employing a preamble sequence in the IEEE 802.15.3a DS-UWB proposal.
This paper presents a timing recovery method using Gardner TED (Timing Error Detector) with a Peak Detector using Parabola Peak Interpolation in underwater acoustic communication. This method will have an eye to improve phase converge speed of timing recovery and reduced amount of Tx data. The OQPSK(Offset Quadrature Phase Shift Keying) modulation technique was considered. The proposed algorithm has faster recovery speed and more accurate than Gardner TED because the sampling values in the proposed algorithm are moved persistingly to maximum or minimum point using parabolic peak interpolation. when simulation performed using Preposed method, it improved BER (Bit Error Rate) performance about 23% And to evaluate the performances of the proposed algorithm the sea trial was performed in the Korean East Sea. And distance of a transmitter-receiver is 3 km each other. As a result, the proposed algorithm outperforms better BER performance about 20% of timing recovery than the Gardner method. Also Proposed method improved converge speed of timing recovery about 1.4 times better than Gardner method.
