In this paper, we propose a timing recovery loop for Inmarsat mini-m system downlink receiver. Inmarsat mini-m system requires a timing recovery loop which is robust in frequency offset and has fast acquisition because Inmarsat mini-m system specification requires frequency tolerance is required of ${\pm}924$ Hz (signal bandwidth: 2.4 kHz) and acquisition time of UW (Unique Word) signal duration (15ms).Therefore, we propose a timing recovery loop which is suitable for Inmarsat mini-m system. The proposed timing recovery loop adopted noncoherent UW detector and differential ELD which applied differential UW signal for stability and fast acquisition in frequency offset environment. Simulation results show that the proposed timing recovery loop has stable operation and fast acquisition in frequency offset environment for the system.
This paper presents a parallel processing searcher structure for the initial synchronization of a direct sequence ultra-wideband (DS-UWB) system, which is suitable for the digital implementation of baseband functionalities with a 1.32 Gsample/s chip rate analog-to-digital converter. An initial timing acquisition algorithm and a data demodulation method are also studied. The proposed searcher effectively acquires initial symbol and frame timing during the preamble transmission period. A hardware efficient receiver structure using 24 parallel digital correlators for binary phase-shift keying DS-UWB transmission is presented. The proposed correlator structure operating at 55 MHz is shared for correlation operations in a searcher, a channel estimator, and the demodulator of a RAKE receiver. We also present a pseudo-random noise sequence generated with a primitive polynomial, $1+x^2+x^5$, for packet detection, automatic gain control, and initial timing acquisition. Simulation results show that the performance of the proposed parallel processing searcher employing the presented pseudo-random noise sequence outperforms that employing a preamble sequence in the IEEE 802.15.3a DS-UWB proposal.

In this paper, we propose an initial timing acquisition algorithm for terrestrial cloud transmission (CTxn) systems. By combining auto-correlations of several repetition patterns within preamble symbols, the proposed scheme can improve the reliability of the timing metric for CTxn system with co-channel interferences. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme improves the reliability of the timing metric for terrestrial CTxn systems.

The timing error detector(TED) employed in the closed loop type timing synchronization scheme for an MQASK all digital receiver suffers from the selfnoise-induced timing jitter. To eliminate the timing jitter a prefilter can be added in front of the TED. The prefilter method, however, degrades the stability and timing acquisition performance due to the loop delay and increases the complexity of the synchronizer. This paper proposes a polyphase filter type resampler approach to optimize the performance and architecture of the synchronizer simultaneously. The proposed scheme uses two resamplers which performs matched filtering and matched prefiltering so that the loop delay is minimized with minimal hardware resources. Simulation results showed an excellent acquisition performance with reduced timing jitter.

In this paper, we compare the performance of initial timing acquisition in direct sequence ultra-wideband(DS-UWB) systems with different transmit pulse shaping filters through extensive computer simulations. Simulation results show that the timing acquisition performance of the DS-UWB system, whose chip rate is 1.32 Gchip/s, employing a rectangular transmit filter is similar to that employing a square root raised cosine(SRRC) filter with an interpolation factor of 4 in the realistic UWB channels(CM1 and CM3) as well as the additive white Gaussian noise(AWGN) channel. Additionally, we present both a 24-parallel digital correlator structure and a 24-parallel processing searcher operating at a 55 MHz system clock, and then briefly discuss the initial timing acquisition procedure. Because we can adopt an 1.32 Gsample/s digital-to-analog(D/A) converter and an 1.32 Gsample/s analog-to-digital(AID) converter in the DS-UWB system by employing the rectangular transmit filter, we have a realistic solution for the DS-UWB chipset development.
In this paper, we propose a method of trigger pulse generation to capture the image on time by making a synchronization between the x-ray generator and digital x-ray image acquisition system. we designed a wireless trigger pulse generation circuit to make a synchronization between x-ray generator and digital image acquisition system and analysis its performance. When it starts to detect a certain level of x-ray radiation or above from the air, this method starts to generate a ACQ_START signal to indicate the timing for image acquisition starting from digital image acquisition system. Hence, when it starts to detect under certain level of x-ray signal from the air, this method starts to generate a ACC_END signal to indicate the timing for image acquisition stop from digital image acquisition system. Image acquisition is activated only this time between ACQ_START and ACQ_END signal. By doing this wireless detecting of x-ray signal from remote, we can get more accurate timing for capturing the x-ray image and any type of x-ray generator can be connected to digital image acquisition system, regards of wired protocol. This makes easy installation. We could get 3.5 line pair / mm resolution at 20 mAs of x-ray level with resolution chart. This is same or better image comparing to conventional wired result.

To implement a high-precision lightning tracking system utilizing TDOA measurements, high-speed data acquisition and precise timing synchronization between ground sensors should be achieved. At the same time, considering the size of digitizer's memory, the data memory needs to be managed so that only the sampled data around the occurrence of stepped leader pulse is stored. This paper presents a detection-and-acquisition system for lightning signals that is the main equipment of ground sensor in lightning tracking system. GPS clock module is used to get precise timing synchronization and the 500MHz high speed digitizer is employed. In order to detect the leading edge of the lightning pulse and save the sampled data and its timing, lightning detection module is implemented and multi-record method is employed in the proposed system. Field experiment results show that the proposed system can detect and save the lightning signal efficiently.
Fast Fourier transform (FFT)-based parallel acquisition techniques with reduced computational complexity have been widely used for the acquisition of binary phase shift keying (BPSK) global positioning system (GPS) signals. In this paper, we propose a low computational FFT-based fine acquisition technique, for binary offset carrier (BOC) modulated BPSK signals, that depending on the subcarrier-to-code chip rate ratio (SCR) selectively utilizes the computationally efficient frequency-domain realization of the BPSK-like technique and two-dimensional compressed correlator (BOC-TDCC) technique in the first stage in order to achieve a fast coarse acquisition and accomplishes a fine acquisition in the second stage. It is analyzed and demonstrated that the proposed technique requires much smaller mean fine acquisition computation (MFAC) than the conventional FFT-based BOC acquisition techniques. The proposed technique is one of the first techniques that achieves a fast FFT-based fine acquisition of BOC signals with a slight loss of detection probability. Therefore, the proposed technique is beneficial for the receivers to make a quick position fix when there are plenty of strong (i.e., line-of-sight) GNSS satellites to be searched.
In this paper, we propose a two step Binary Exponential search algorithm for rapid acquisition time of UWB(Ultra Wide Band) signal on UWB communication systems. Previous proposed timing acquisition algorithm is searching whole frame that consist of the number of n Bins to terminate search, however this paper proposed two step Binary Exponential search algorithm can achieve remarkable reduction of UWB signal acquisition time as limiting search group. Proposed search algorithm is consisting of search group establishment step and Bit Reversing of search group establishment step.

This paper analyzes the signal acquisition performance of the legacy GNSS spreading codes and a polyphase code. The code length and chip rate of a polyphase code are assumed to be same as those of the GPS L1 C/A and Galileo E1C codes. The autocorrelation and cross correlation characteristics are analyzed. In addition, a way to calculate a more accurate probability of false alarm for a code with sidelobe non-zero auto-correlation function is proposed. Finally, we estimate the probability of detection and the mean acquisition time for a given signal strength and the probability of false alarm.
