  • This paper proposes the model order reduction with pass band error reduction in the frequency domain of discrete time linear systems. The algorithm is the new method of reduced order model which reduces passband error by changing controllability and observability gramian used with weighted functions. A numerical example shows that this algorithm has lower passband error than balanced w&l and weighted function characteristics in frequency domain.

  • The goal of this research was to determine whether gender differences exist in impact force and impact shock variables at stance phase during a preferred running. Ten male and ten female subjects volunteered to participate in this study. Impact force was quantified by using a surface-mounted force plate. In addition, Axial accelerations of the tibias and mouth were measured using low-mass accelerometers. Comparison of parameters relating to impact force and impact shock which attained from time domain, and impact shock parameters which were analyzed in frequency domain were made between genders. The conclusions based on results were as follows; 1. There were no significantly differences in impact force, mouth and tibia acceleration peak in time domain between two genders. 2. The male group was greater in impact shock peak of PSD(power spectral density) at the tibia than female group(p<.05), but no differences in active impact of PSD at the tibia and the mouth between two genders. 3. Female subjects exhibited that a peak of impact shock attenuation analyzed in frequency domain moved toward a high frequency, but no difference in time domain between two genders.

  • Ground motion modification is extensively used in seismic design of civil infrastructure, especially where few or no recorded ground motions representative of the design scenario are available. A site in Los Angeles, California is used as a study site and 28 ground motions consistent with the design earthquake scenario are selected. The suite of 28 ground motions is scaled and modified in the time domain (TD) and frequency domain (FD) before being used as input to a bilinear SDOF system. The median structural responses to the suites of scaled, TD-modified, and FD-modified motions, along with ratios of he modified-to-scaled responses, are investigated for SDOF systems with different periods, strength ratios, and post-yield stiffness ratios. Overall, little difference (less than 20%) is observed in the peak structural accelerations, velocities, and displacements; displacement ductility; and absolute accelerations caused by the TD-modified and FD-modified motions when compared to the responses caused by the scaled motions. The energy absorbed by the system when the modified motions are used as input is more than 20% greater than when scaled motions are used as input. The observed trends in the structural response are predominantly the result of changes in the ground motion characteristics caused by modification.

  • This paper describes the estimation method of cable fault location in rocket motors using M-sequence (Maximal Length Sequence). In order to estimate the location of a cable fault, three methods have been usually used: TDR (Time Domain Reflectometry), FDR (Frequency Domain Reflectometry), and TFDR (Time-Frequency Domain Reflectometry). However, these methods suffer the disadvantage of requiring users to be close to a test field, which is dangerous. The estimation method of cable fault location using M-sequence is proposed to solve this problem. The proposed method can make use of DAS (Data Acquisition System). The experiments were three cases: damaged, open, and short. The RG-58 coaxial cable was used in the experiments. As a result, the proposed method has better performance than that of conventional methods such as TDR and TFDR.

  • Pipe thinning is one of the major issues for the structural fracture of pipes of nuclear power plants. Therefore a method to inspect a large area of piping systems quickly and accurately is needed. In this paper, we proposed the method for monitoring pipe thinning. Our basic idea come from that a group velocity of impact wave is different as wall thickness. If the group velocity is measured, wall thickness can be estimated. To obtain the group velocity, time -frequency analysis is used. This is because an arrival time difference can be measured easily in time-frequency domain rather than time domain. To test the performance of this technique, experiments have been performed for a plate and U type pipe. Results show that the proposed technique is quite powerful in the monitoring pipe thinning.

  • A time-domain combined field integral equation (CFIE) is presented to obtain the transient scattering response from arbitrarily shaped three-dimensional conducting bodies. This formulation is based on a linear combination of the time-domain electric field integral equation (EFIE) with the magnetic field integral equation (MFIE). The time derivative of the magnetic vector potential in EFIE is approximated using a central finite difference approximation and the scalar potential is averaged over time. The time-domain CFIE approach produces results that are accurate and stable when solving for transient scattering responses from conducting objects. The incident spectrum of the field may contain frequency components, which correspond to the internal resonance of the structure. For the numerical solution, we consider both the explicit and implicit scheme and use two different kinds of Gaussian pulses, which may contain frequencies corresponding to the internal resonance. Numerical results for the EFIE, MFIE, and CFIE are presented and compared with those obtained from the inverse discrete Fourier transform (IDFT) of the frequency-domain CFIE solution.

  • In this paper, we propose a signal structure and its optimum receiver to improve performance of SC-FDE(Single Carrier with Frequency Domain Equalization) system. Conventional SC-FDE systems have a drawback of power unbalance in frequency domain due to generation of pilot signals in time domain. The unbalanced power in frequency domain induces a channel estimation error and the performance of the receiver is degraded significantly. To overcome the drawback we apply CAZAC sequence which has constant power distribution in time and frequency domain. We design the signal structure to improve the performance with the repeated CAZAC sequence, and we design a receiver to optimize the proposed structure. Computer simulation results show that the proposed structure is superior to the conventional structure considering frame synchronization, frequency synchronization and channel equalization on typical wireless mobile channel environment.

  • This paper proposes an experimental optimization method for a wireless power transfer (WPT) system. The power transfer characteristics of a WPT system with arbitrary loads and various types of coupling and compensation networks can be extracted by frequency domain measurements. The various performance parameters of the WPT system, such as input real/imaginary/apparent power, power factor, efficiency, output power and voltage gain, can be accurately extracted in a frequency domain by a single passive measurement. Subsequently, the design parameters can be efficiently tuned by separating the overall design steps into two parts. The extracted performance parameters of the WPT system were validated with time-domain experiments.

  • In this paper, a VBF(variable bandwidth filter) is suggested and analyzed in time-frequency domain. There are four kinds of VBF, which are low-pass VBF, high-pass VBF, band-pass VBF and band-stop VBF. The proposed VBF can extract the components of signals within variable instantaneous bandwidth at a specific time instant. Instantaneous bandwidth is estimated in time-frequency domain. The VBF is represented by rational form in extended Fourier frequency domain.

  • In this paper, As the wavelet transform has the properties of multi-resolution analysis and time-frequency domain localization, application of wavelet transform is used at partial discharge(PD) signal detected by electromagnetic wave detection method to extract PD signal's various frequency component and its time domain. therefore we can analyzed PD signal's time-frequency domain simultaneously. On the other hand, using wavelet transform denoising process, inclued noise signal in detected PD signal is well elimiated. we can propose the true shape of PD signal.
