  • Rotor eccentricity exists extensively in BLDC motors because of manufacturing imprecision or bearing defects. In this paper, magnetic fields of a BLDC motor with static rotor eccentricity are analyzed by the time- stepping finite element method. Torque ripple, cogging torque, winding current, counter-em! and unbalanced magnetic force characteristics are obtained. These results are compared with those of a non-eccentric BLDC motor.

  • This paper presents a optimum design process for static torque characteristics of the Claw-Poles PM Stepping Motor(CPSM). Since the shape of CPSM changes along with axial direction, CPSM should only be analyzed by 3D-FEM. But 3D-FEM needs too much computation time and computer resources. Therefore, it is essential to reduce the number of 3D-FEM analysis models. In this paper, two design factors which affect the static torque characteristics of CPSM were selected. Optimum design process was able to make progress by using Pattern Search Algorithm and 3D-FEM. Finally, optimized model was compared with a conventional model.

  • This paper presents a novel method for the transient of eddy currents in the dampers of a super-conducting synchronous generator(SCG). The method proposes a 2-D corrected model which takes into account the influence of leakage fluxes of the field winding ends by increasing the effective air gap in order to consider the high precision of the analysis for the conventional 2-D model. The electromagnetic fields for the corrected model are analyzed by the time-stepping finite element method, thus the eddy currents in the dampers and electro-motive forces(EMF) in the stator windings are calculated. As the results, it is proved the presented method is comparatively accurate by comparing measured phase EMF values and the simulation ones, where about 6.4% error at the maximum value of EMF is occurred between them.

  • An effective estimation method of equivalent circuit parameters of three-phase induction motor by using FEM is presented in this paper. Arbitrary three torque-speed points at asynchronous speed on the torque-speed curve are required by using time-stepping FEM, then the equivalent circuit parameters of IM can be calculated rapidly with presented method. After obtaining the equivalent circuit parameters, the general analysis method based on equivalent circuit can be used to get entire torque-speed curve very quickly. Although the purely numerical method such as FEM also can estimate torque-speed curve directly and accurately, however, usually this process is time consuming.

  • This paper describes as Electronic Speckle Pattern Interferometry system which has been designed for measuring vibration patterns and quantitative measurement of vibration amplitude fields by using the time average method on a object. Visbility of fringe patterns is more improved by using the phase stepping and frame average method to reduce speckle and electric noise. And a bias vibration is introduced into the reference beam to shift the $\frac{2}{0}$ fringes so that fringe shift algorithms can be used to determine vibration amplitude. The experimental results are compared to those of the FFT analyzer and the FEM model analysis.

  • An implicit turbulent flow solver is developed for 2-D unstructured hybrid meshes. Spatial discretization is accomplished by a cell-centered finite volume formulation using an upwind flux differencing. Time is advanced by an implicit backward Euler time stepping scheme. Flow turbulence effects are modeled by the Spalart-Allmaras one equation model, which is coupled with wall function. The numerical method is applied for flows on a flat plate, the NACA 0012 airfoil, and the Douglas 3 element airfoil. The results are compared with experimental data.

  • This paper presents a fully coupled three-dimensional solver for the analysis of interaction between pulsatile flow and large deformation structure. A partitioned time marching algorithm is employed for the solution of the time dependent coupled discretised problem, enabling the use of highly developed, robust and well-tested solvers for each field. Conservative transfer of information at the fluid-structure interface is combined with an effective multi-predict-correct iterative scheme to enable implicit coupling of the interacting fields at each time increment. The three-dimensional unsteady incompressible fluid is solved using a powerful implicit time stepping technique and an ALE formulation for moving boundaries with second-order time accurate is used. A full spectrum of total variational diminishing (TVD) schemes in unstructured grids is allowed implementation for the advection terms and finite element shape functions are used to evaluate the solution and its variation within mesh elements. A finite element dynamic analysis of the highly deformable structure is carried out with a numerical strategy combining the implicit Newmark time integration algorithm with a Newton-Raphson second-order optimisation method. The proposed model is used to predict the wave flow fields of a particular flow-induced vibrational phenomenon, and comparison of the numerical results with available experimental data validates the methodology and assesses its accuracy. Another test case about three-dimensional biomedical model with pulsatile inflow is presented to benchmark the algorithm and to demonstrate the potential applications of this method.

  • For motor operation at low speeds and loads, torque pulsation by the cogging torque is often a source of vibration and control difficulty. In this paper, the magnetic field of a motor is calculated by finite element method. The periodic cogging torque is determined using Maxwell stress method and time stepping method, and then decomposed using fourier series expansion, The purpose of this paper is to characterize design parameters on the cogging torque and to design a permanent magnet motor with a cogging torque less vulnerable to vibration, without sacrificing the motor performance. The design parameters include stator slot width, permanent magnet slot width, airgap length and magnetization direction. A new design with a less populated frequency spectrum of the cogging torque is proposed after characterizing individual effect of design parameters. Magnet pole edge shaping, by gradually increasing the cogging torque with reduced higher harmonics.

  • The time harmonics of an inverter output voltage cause high frequency currents in the rotor bars of a squirrel cage induction motor, so that the harmonic copper loss density increases in the upper lesion of the bars. Such an higher loss density makes an nonuniform thermal source and deforms the bars due to the thermal stress. Therefore, in this paper, the copper loss distribution in the rotor bar of an inverter-fed induction motor, which is the source of the thermal stress, is analyzed by the time-stepping finite element method. As a result, the harmonic copper losses of 11 subregions in a bar are calculated and compared with those of sinusoidally fed induction motor.

  • The detection of axial cracks using conventional MFL pig is a significant challenge in the gas pipeline inspection. In this study, a technique using interaction of circumferentially induced torrents with axial stress corrosion crack is presented. The feasibility of this technique is investigated using finite element modeling. Finite element analysis of such interaction is a difficult problem in terms of both computation time and memory requirements. The challenges arise due to the nonlinearity of material properties, the small sire of tight cracks relative to that of the magnetizer, and also time stepping involved in modeling velocity effects. This paper presents an approach based on perturbation methods. The overall analysis procedure is divided into 4 simple steps that can be performed sequentially. Modeling results show that this technique can effectively detect colonies of SCC as well as single SCC.
