e-VLBI was invented to enhance the efficiency of VLBI (Very-Long-Baseline Interferometry) system by transmitting the data via high speed network. Korean VLBI Network (KVN) has a plan to construct e-VLBI system named e-KVN. High speed backbone network and efficient network model are essential to implement successful e-VLBI system. This paper introduces a network model based on PC cluster technology. The present status of high speed backbone network in Korea is overviewed. We suggest that the network link via Korea Advanced Research Network (KOREN) is one of feasible way for e-KVN. We also describe the principles of e-VLBI and protocol for network transmission such as VSI-E (VLBI Standard Interface - Electronic), RTP (Real-Time Transport Protocol) and RTCP (Real-Time Transport Control protocol).
This paper deals with the time synchronization problem over SpaceWire links. SpaceWire is a standard for high-speed links and networks between spacecraft components, which was invented for better, cheaper, faster on-board data handling in spacecraft. The standard defines Time-Code for time distribution over SpaceWire network. When a Time-Code is transmitted, transmission delay and jitter is unavoidable. In this paper, a mechanism to remove Time-Code transmission delay and jitter over SpaceWire links is proposed and implemented with FPGA for validation. The proposed mechanism achieves high resolution clock synchronization over SpaceWire links, complies with the standard and can be easily adopted over SpaceWire network.

Space based constellation network is a kind of ad hoc network in which users are self-organized without center node. In space based constellation network, users are allowed to enter or leave the network at any given time. Thus, the number of active users is an unknown and time-varying parameter, and the performance of the network depends on how accurately this parameter is estimated. The so-called problem of active user identification, which consists of determining the number and identities of users transmitting in space based constellation network is discussed and a novel active user identification method is proposed in this paper. Active user identification code generated by transmitter address code and receiver address code is used to spread spectrum. Subspace-based method is used to process received signal and judgment model is established to identify active users according to the processing results. The proposed method is simulated under AWGN channel, Rician channel and Rayleigh channel respectively. Numerical results indicate that the proposed method obtains at least 1.16dB Eb/N0 gains compared with reference methods when miss alarm rate reaches 10-3.
Based on our experience on exoplanet transit observation, we propose the exoplanet science cases with Small Telescope Network. One is the follow-up observation for validation of exoplanet candidates. TESS(Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite) is pouring out exoplanet candidates in bright stars(V<15) on all the sky. Since Small Telescope Network will consist of 0.5-1m telescopes, we will expect to produce promising outcomes from the follow-up observation of bright candidates. Next is the transit time observation. By spectroscopy of space and large telescopes during transit event, it can be possible to find the bio signatures in exoplanet atmosphere. So, in terms of cost, it is critical to determine the exact time of transit event. In addition, detecting the variation of transit time can reveal another exoplanet and exomoon in the system. In order to determine the transit time and its variation, the accumulation of transit event data is more important than the quality of photometric data. We expect that it can be a challenging project of Small Telescope Network.

In this paper, we consider coded layered space-time architecture in MIMO-OFDM channels. Vertical Bell Lab Layered Space-Time(V-BLAST) scheme employing ordered successive interference cancellation(OSIC) algorithm provides very high spectral efficiency with low computational complexity. However, the error propagation is a major drawback constraining the overall performance of the V-BLAST system significantly. Based on this problem, we derive an improved detector using soft bit log-likelihood ratio(LLR) value. Simulation results show that the proposed detector outperforms the conventional V-BLAST scheme under spatially uncorrelated as well as correlated fading channels.

In this study, we propose a software-defined radio-based frequency interference emulator in the space-time domain. This emulator can easily model actual interference environments because of the versatile programming capability of the universal software radio peripheral and LabVIEW. As an example of an interfering network using the contention-based multiple access scheme in the time domain, we emulate a coordinated Wi-Fi network that consists of one access point and two Wi-Fi nodes. Results show that our emulator can successfully model multiple interfering signals in the Wi-Fi network and easily adjust various space-time domain parameters.

Free-space optical interconnection networks can be classified into two types, space variant and space invariant, according to the degree of space variance. In terms of physical implementations, the degree of space variance can be interpreted as the degree of sharing beam steering optics among the nodes of a given network. This implies that all nodes in a totally space-invariant network can share a single beam steering optics to realize the given network topology, whereas, in a totally space variant network, each node requires a distinct beam steering optics. However, space invariant networks require mechanisms for distinguishing the origins of incoming signals detected at the node since several signals may arrive at the same time if the node degree of the network is greater than one. This paper presents a signal source encoding scheme for distinguishing incoming signals efficiently, in terms of the number of detectors at each node or the number of unique wavelengths. The proposed scheme is solved by developing a new parallel genetic algorithm called distributed asynchronous genetic algorithm (DAGA). Using the DAGA, we solved signal distinction schemes for various network sizes of several topologies such as hypercube, the mesh, and the de Brujin.
