  • In this paper, the system for detection of photoacoustic signal has been constructed by using CW $CO_{2}$ laser for an analysis of the photoacoustic signal In metals and aluminum carbon steel, brass have been used as sample. The photoacoustic signals of several nano amperes have been detected in each sample with varying modulation frequency of laser, time constant of lock-in amplifier, thickness of sample. The characteristics of photoacoustic signal has been analysed in term of phase angle by using signal processing technique. Results indicate that the photoacoustic signal can be stabilized by adjustment of time constant of lock-in amplifier, that the signal amplitude is proportional to the ratio of thermal expansion coefficient to thermal capacity of metal, and that the signal amplitude decreases exponentially with sample thickness as well as with modulation frequency.

  • This paper deals with the analysis of leakage current characteristics of silicone rubber insulator in order to develop a new condition monitoring tool to identify the flashover of outdoor insulators. In this work, laboratory based pollution performance tests are carried out on silicone rubber insulator under ac voltage at different pollution levels and relative humidity conditions with sodium chloride (NaCl) as a contaminant. Min-Norm spectral analysis is adopted to calculate the higher order harmonics and Signal Noise Ratio (SNR). Choi-Williams Distribution (CWD) function is employed to understand the time frequency characteristics of the leakage current signal. Reported results on silicone rubber insulators show that the flashover development process of outdoor polymer insulators could be identified from the higher order harmonics and signal noise ratio values of leakage current signals.

  • In this paper, we analyzed normal gait acceleration signal by time series analysis methods. Accelerations were measured during walking using a biaxial accelerometer. Acceleration data were acquired from normal subjects(23 men and one woman) walking on a level corridor of 20m in length with three different walking speeds. Acceleration signals were measured at a sampling frequency of 60Hz from a biaxial accelerometer mounted between L3 and L4 intervertebral area. Each step signal was analyzed using Box-Jenkins method. Most of the differenced normal step signals were modeled to AR(3) and the model didn't show difference for model's orders and coefficients with walking speed. But, tile model showed difference with acceleration signal direction - vertical and lateral. The above results suggested the proposed model could be applied to unit analysis.

  • This paper deals with application of wavelet transform, which is known to be good for time-frequency analysis, in order to detect the underwater transient signals embedded in ambient noise. A new detector of acoustic transient signals is presented. It combines two detection tools: wavelet analysis and higher-order statistics. Using both techniques, the detection of the transient signal is possible in low signal to noise ratio condition. The proposed algorithm uses the wavelet transform of a partition of the signal on frequency domain, and then higher-order statistics tests the Gaussian nature of the segments.

  • In Lamb wave detection of damages in smart structures, the excitation pulse is usually designed as a narrow band burst wave for the convenience of analysis and recognition. However, the wideband excitation can excite more modes in plate/shell structure and thus provides extra information for changes of the structure. This paper presents a method that can extract information in wideband Lamb wave signals. By transforming the detected signals into various sub-frequency band, the measured signal can be converted to its equivalences of narrow band excitations, therefore, the information in different frequency bands can be acquired from a single test and in the same time the complicity of wideband signal can be simplified. Some test results are provided to verify this method.

  • Reduction in pollution performance of polymeric insulators, aged due to water absorption stress and thermal stress, is a major threat to the reliable operation of power transmission and distribution system. Formation of partial discharges on the surface of wet polluted insulator plays a major role in determining the life time and pollution performance of outdoor polymeric insulators. However, reports on partial discharge characteristics of water absorption stress aged and thermal aged polymeric insulators are scanty. This paper discusses the pollution performance characteristics of accelerated aged polymeric insulators using the advanced ultra wide band PD signal measurement and analysis. Laboratory experiments on accelerated aged polymeric insulators were carried out as per IEC 60507 under AC voltage, at different humidity and contamination levels using NaCl as a contaminant. PRPD pattern and Time-Frequency map analysis of PD signals were carried out. From the results, it can be speculated that PD analysis is a well suited technique to understand the pollution performance of aged polymeric insulators.

  • A methodology is proposed to estimate a trajectory of a flying target and its velocity using the time and frequency analysis of the acoustic signal. The measurement of sound emitted from a flying acoustic source with a microphone above a ground shall receive both direct and ground-reflected sound waves. For certain frequency contents, the destructive interference happens in received signal waveform reflected path lengths are in multiple integers of direct path length. This phenomenon is referred to as the acoustical mirror effect and it can be observed in a spectrogram plot. The spectrogram of acoustic measurement for a flying vehicle measurement shows several orders of destructive interference curves. The first or second order of curve is used to find the best approximate path by using nonlinear least-square method. Simulated acoustic signal is generated for the condition of known geometric of a sensor and a source in flight. The estimation based on cepstrogram analysis provides more accurate estimate than spectrogram.

  • In this paper, the channel change was continuously measured for 24 hours from July 5, 2017 on the coast near Deokjeok-do, Incheon. The underwater channel has various channel environment characteristics as the change in the time axis and the change in the frequency axis occurs in real time, and the underwater communication performance decreases due to the multipath fading and the Doppler effect. Therefore, in this study, we performed the OFDM system performance analysis in the underwater channel environment by applying the repetitive transmission diversity scheme in the time and frequency domain to improve the communication performance in the real-world underwater communication environment. Using the collected data, we compared the channel environment in the time and frequency domain and analyzed the BER performance according to the pilot spacing and the number of repetitive transmissions in the time and frequency axis.

  • Ambient noise as a background noise in the ocean has been well known for its the various and irregular signal characteristics. Generally, these signals we treated as noise and they are analyzed through stochastical level if they don't include definite sinusoidal signals. This study is to see how ocean ambient noise can be analyzed by the chaotic analysis technique. The chaotic analysis is carried out with underwater ambient noise obtained in areas near the Korean Peninsula. The calculated physical parameters of time series signal are as follows: histogram, self-correlation coefficient, delay time, frequency spectrum, sonogram, return map, embedding dimension, correlation dimension, Lyapunov exponent, etc. We investigate the chaotic pattern of noises from these parameters. From the embedding dimensions of underwater noises, the assesment of underwater noise by chaotic analysis shows similar results if they don't include a definite sinusoidal signal. However, the values of Lyapunov exponent (divergence exponent) are smaller than that of random noise signal. As a result we confirm the possibility of classification of underwater noise using Lyapunov analysis.

  • There has been a number methods for the presentation of time-frequency analysis of non-stationary signal. In this paper, STFT(short time Fourier transform), wavelet transform, Wigner distribution, and higher order Wigner distribution are discussed in details with simulation signals. They are also applied to the analysis of the wave propagation of a semi finite beam. Wigner distribution and higher order Wigner distribution have good time-frewuency resolutions. Wavelet transform is required for impact analysis but should be applied carefully. STFT suffers from time-frequency resolutions. Each method is has its advantage and disadvantage depending on each application signals.
