System Strategies for Time-Domain Emission Measurements above 1 GHz

  • The application of time-domain methods in emission measurement instruments allows for a reduction in scan time by several orders of magnitude and for new evaluation methods to be realized such as the real-time spectrogram to characterize transient emissions. In this paper two novel systems for time-domain EMI measurements above 1 GHz are presented. The first system combines ultra-fast analog-to-digital-conversion and real-time digital signal processing on a field-programmable-gate-array (FPGA) with ultra-broadband multi-stage down-conversion to enable measurements in the range from 10 Hz to 26 GHz with high sensitivity and full-compliance with the requirements of CISPR 16-1-1. The required IF bandwidths were added to allow for measurements according to MIL-461F and DO-160F. The second system realizes a system of time-interleaved analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) and has an upper bandwidth limit of 4 GHz. With the implementation of an automatic mismatch calibration, the system fulfills CISPR 16-1-1 dynamic range requirements. Measurements of the radiated emissions of electronic consumer devices and household appliances like the non-stationary emissions of a microwave oven are presented. A measurement of a personal computer's conducted emissions on a power supply line according to DO-160F is given.

From the Absorption Profile to the Potential by a Time-dependent Inversion Method

  • The time-dependent tracking inversion method is developed to extract the potential of the excited state from frequency-domain measurements, such as the absorption profile. Based on the relay of the regularized inversion procedure and time-dependent wave-packet propagation, the algorithm extract the underlying potential piece by piece by tracking the time-dependent data which can be synthesized from frequency-domain measurements. We have demonstrated the algorithm to extract the potential of excited state for a model diatomic molecule. Finally, we describe the merits of the time-dependent tracking inversion method compared to the time-dependent inversion and discuss several extensions of the algorithm.

Wavelet Power Spectrum Estimation for High-resolution Terahertz Time-domain Spectroscopy

  • Recently reported asynchronous-optical-sampling terahertz (THz) time-domain spectroscopy enables high-resolution spectroscopy due to a long time-delay window. However, a long-lasting tail signal following the main pulse is often measured in a time-domain waveform, resulting in spectral fluctuation above a background noise level on a high-resolution THz amplitude spectrum. Here, we adopt the wavelet power spectrum estimation technique (WPSET) to effectively remove the spectral fluctuation without sacrificing spectral features. Effectiveness of the WPSET is verified by investigating a transmission spectrum of water vapor.

PCB상 Single 및 Differential Via의 전기적 파라미터 추출 (Extraction of Electrical Parameters for Single and Differential Vias on PCB)

  • 본 논문은 인쇄 회로 기판에 있는 through hole vias를 시간 영역과 주파수 영역 측정을 통하여 characterization을 하였다. Via characterization은 Time Domain Reflectometry (TDR)를 이용하여 시간 영역에서 측정하고 HSPICE fitting 시뮬레이션으로 via 모델 파라미터를 추출하였다. 또한 2 port Vector Network Analyzer (VNA)로 주파수 영역에서 측정하고 Advanced Design System (ADS) fitting 시뮬레이션 하였다. VNA를 이용한 측정에서는 같은 평면에서 probing하기 위해 ABCD matrix 를 이용하여 do-embedding 수식을 유도하였다. 그리고 single via characterization 결과를 바탕으로 differential signaling을 위한 differential via characterization을 TDR과 VNA 측정을 통하여 수행하였다. Differential via characterization은 TDR 모듈의 odd mode와 even mode 소스들을 이용하여 시간 영역에서 측정하고 HSPICE로 fitting 시뮬레이션으로 모델 파라미터를 추출하였다. 추출된 모든 data는 측정 및 simulation 결과를 비교한 결과 single via의 경우, 최대 $14\%$, differential via의 경우 최대 $17\%$의 오차를 나타내었다.

주파수 필터링 함수에 따른 시간 및 주파수 영역 광음향 측정에 대한 신호 대 잡음비 분석 (Signal-to-noise Ratio in Time- and Frequency-domain Photoacoustic Measurements by Different Frequency Filtering)

  • 구면 초점 초음파 측정기에 의해 구형의 광 흡수체로부터 측정된 시간(즉, 펄스 형태 광원) 및 주파수 영역(즉, 처프 형태 광원) 광음향 신호의 신호 대 잡음비(signal-to-noise ratio)를 이론 및 시뮬레이션으로 분석하였다. 이전 문헌과 마찬가지로 시간 영역 광음향 측정에 의한 신호 대 잡음비 값이 주파수 영역 광음향 측정의 경우보다 더 높았는데 이 근본적인 이유를 최대허용노광량(maximum permissible exposure)에 따른 광원의 세기와 주파수 필터링을 통한 두 측정 모드의 광음향 스펙트럼들에 대한 분석을 통해 이해하였다. 또한, 분석의 결과로서 주파수 영역 광음향의 처프 형태 광원에 대한 정합 필터링에 더해 DC 스펙트럼 부분을 제거하니 신호 대 잡음비가 5 dB 정도 상승하는 것을 발견하였다. 특히, 주파수 필터 함수의 주파수 상한 값의 변화에 따라 신호대 잡음비 값이 급격하게 변동하였는데 신호 대 잡음비가 최대가 되는 주파수 상한 값이 두 광음향 측정 모드에서 서로 다르게 나타남을 관찰하였다.

  • The use of beamforming method and de-Dopplerization technique was applied in studying the rotating sound sources. Acoustic analysis of a moving sound source required that the measured sound signals be do-Dopplerized and restored as of the original emission signals. Two main issues of the signal reconstruction in time domain are addressed herein: First, to remove Doppler effect from the measured data and to restore the original emission data of the moving source. The difference of the time domain beamforming from the frequency domain beamforming was mentioned. Also, the time domain beamforming method is deployed in the test and the comparisons were made to the frequency domain results. The time domain signal reconstruction was numerically simulated prior to the application. To validate the de-Dopplerization Performance, the rotating Point sources were examined and localized by the use of a phased array of microphone. The application of prop-rotor was conducted in a hovering condition. The results of reconstructing time signals of rotating sources and its locations were shown in the power distribution maps. In the prop-rotor measurements, the acoustic source locations were successfully verified in varying positions for different frequencies of interest.

Delay Measurement and Split-Step Time-Domain Analysis of Ring Resonator All-Pass Filters

  • Single-ring all-pass filters with various coupling ratios are designed, fabricated, and characterized to assess the validity of the split-step time-domain modeling approach, which is considered for direct simulation of time-domain characteristics, such as optical delay, of various ring resonator devices. When the coupling ratio of the single-ring all-pass filter is 0.4 and 0.8, the delay time is measured to be about 145 and 42 ps respectively, which is comparable to the time-domain modeling results of 151 and 47 ps respectively. The measurements for two- and three-ring all-pass filters are also found to agree quite well with the simulation results. With these results it is confirmed that the split-step time-domain model could be efficiently incorporated into an optical-communication simulation module for ring resonator delay components in an all-optical packet switching system.

실내 아파트 환경에서의 통계적 UWB 채널 모델 (A Statistical Model for the Ultra-Wide Bandwidth Indoor Apartment Channel)

  • 본 논문에서는 실제 아파트 환경에서 2000번의 주파수 응답에 의한 통계적 UWB 실내 채널 모델을 연구하였다. 측정은 서로 다른 방, 서로 다른 위치에서 이루어 졌으며, 실험 결과를 통해 채널의 전파특성을 이론적으로 설명하였다. Time-domain상에서 측정할 수 있는 channel impulse response (CIR)와 frequency-domain상에서 측정할 수 있는 channel transfer function (CTF) 측정방법을 제안하였다. 측정데이터를 통해서 CIR과 CTF를 비교하여 분석하였고, 통계적 경로손실 모델 또한 제안하였다. 신호 대역은 10MHz에서 8.010Hz까지 사용하였다. 측정결과를 통해 time-domain상에서 확인할 수 있는 maximum excess delay, mean excess delay, ms delay spread를 나타내었다. 송신기와 수신기에는 전방향의 biconical 안테나를 사용하였다. 또한 제안된 아파트 환경에서의 채널 모델은 UMB용 안테나 특성이 포함된 결과이다.

A New Endpoint Detection Method Based on Chaotic System Features for Digital Isolated Word Recognition System

  • In the research of speech recognition, locating the beginning and end of a speech utterance in a background of noise is of great importance. Since the background noise presenting to record will introduce disturbance while we just want to get the stationary parameters to represent the corresponding speech section, in particular, a major source of error in automatic recognition system of isolated words is the inaccurate detection of beginning and ending boundaries of test and reference templates, thus we must find potent method to remove the unnecessary regions of a speech signal. The conventional methods for speech endpoint detection are based on two simple time-domain measurements - short-time energy, and short-time zero-crossing rate, which couldn't guarantee the precise results if in the low signal-to-noise ratio environments. This paper proposes a novel approach that finds the Lyapunov exponent of time-domain waveform. This proposed method has no use for obtaining the frequency-domain parameters for endpoint detection process, e.g. Mel-Scale Features, which have been introduced in other paper. Comparing with the conventional methods based on short-time energy and short-time zero-crossing rate, the novel approach based on time-domain Lyapunov Exponents(LEs) is low complexity and suitable for Digital Isolated Word Recognition System.

골격근의 근전도 신호 분석을 위하 디지탈 신호처리 시스템의 설계 (A Digital Signal Processing System for Analysis of Skeletal Muscle EMG Signal)

  • In the clinical environment, measurements of some characteristics of the skeletal muscle are currently used to assess the severity of a neuromuscular disease or in some cases to assist in making a diagnosis. But a quantitative method of evaluation has not yet been introduced satisfactorily. In this paper, the skeletal EMG(biceps muscle, masseter muscle) analysis has been processed both in the time and in the frequency domain by designing the digital signal processing system based on pentium PC and transputer (IMS 7805). The experiment have been performed in five normal subjects, and various parameters have been statistically tested and compare4 As a results, the effective parameters obtained for the evaluation of skeletal EMG electrical activity are turn analysis, MiTi, MiTa, IEMG, PDF in the time domain, and are mean frequency, median frequency, skewness, kurtosis, muscle fatigue slope in the frequency domain. The designed H/W and S/W in this study can be used effectively for the establishment of EMG data base and for clinical research.
