  • An output time delay always exists in practical systems. Analysis of the delay phenomenon in a continuous-time domain is sophisticated. It is appropriate to obtain its corresponding discrete-time model for implementation via a digital computer. A new method for the discretization of nonlinear systems using Taylor series expansion and the zero-order hold assumption is proposed in this paper. This method is applied to the sampled-data representation of a nonlinear system with a constant output time-delay. In particular, the effect of the time-discretization method on key properties of nonlinear control systems, such as equilibrium properties and asymptotic stability, is examined. In addition, 'hybrid' discretization schemes resulting from a combination of the 'scaling and squaring' technique with the Taylor method are also proposed, especially under conditions of very low sampling rates. A performance of the proposed method is evaluated using two nonlinear systems with time-delay output.

  • A disadvantage of Fourier analysis is that frequency information can only be extracted for the complete duration of a signal f(t). Since the Fourier transform integral extends over all time, from $-{\infty}$ to $+{\infty}$), the information it provides arises from an average over the whole length of the signal. If there is a local oscillation representing a particular feature, this will contribute to the calculated Fourier transform $F({\omega})$, but its location on the time axis will be lost There is no way of knowing whether the value of $F({\omega})$ at a particular ${\omega}$ derives from frequencies present throughout the life of f(t) or during just one or a few selected periods. This disadvantage is overcome in wavelet analysis which provides an alternative way of breaking a signal down into its constituent parts. The main advantage of the wavelet transform over the conventional Fourier transform is that it can not only provide the combined temporal and spectral features of the signal, but can also localize the target information in the time-frequency domain simultaneously. The wavelet transform distinguishes itself from Short Time Fourier Transform for time-frequency analysis in that it has a zoom-in and zoom-out capability.

  • This paper considers a time delay control of noncolocated flexible mechanical systems in discrete time domain. A stability criterion suggested in the previous paper is,extended in the consideration of infinite mode property of flexible systems and finite control sampling frequency. Based on the stability criterion, the one step advanced discrete time derivative control is suggested, which can stabilize infinite number of modes of a flexible system. The sensitivity analysis shows the robustness of the one step advanced control to the system parameter uncertainties and time delay errors. Application to a simply supported beam verifies the extended stability criterion and the effectiveness of the one step advanced D-control.

  • The characteristics on non linear behavior and the failure mechanism of RC space frame structure serving railway under seismic action have been investigated by numerical analysis in time domain. The structure concerned is modeled in 3 dimensional extent and RC frame elements with fibers are employed. Fibers are characterized as RC one and PL one to distinguish different energy release after cracking. Due to deviation of mass center and stiffness center of entire structure the complex behavior under seismic action is shown. The excessive shear force is concentrated on the pier beside flexible one relatively, which leads to failure of bridge concerned.

  • In this paper, we could find optimum quantum sequence(OQS) to minimize the output ripple voltage of the quantum series resonant converter(QSRC). This sequence control is so general that it is irrelevant to the voltage gain so far as it is operating in the continuous conduction mode(CCM). Further more the dynamic range of QSRC is much extended by the optimum quantum sequence control(OQSC). Througuout the time-domain analysis, the solution of steady state and the boundary condition between continuous and discontinuous mode is QSRC is obtained. This feature is verified by simulations and experiments with good agreements.

  • Current percentage differential relaying has been recognized as the principal basis of main protection for stator windings of AC generator. The DWT has merit of obtaining frequency characteristics in time domain. In order to compensate for DFT's defects, we proposed fault detection algorithm using DWT. This paper describes a comparative analysis about conventional DFT-based DFR and advanced DWT-based relaying.

  • In this study, a numerical procedure to solve a contact problem has been developed. The procedure takes advantage of signal processing technique in frequency domain to achieve shorter computing time. Boussinesq's equation was adopted as the response function. This procedure is applicable to a non-periodic surface profile as well as a periodic one. The validity of this procedure has been established by comparing the numerical results with the exact solutions. The fastness of this procedure was shown in comparison with other algorithm.

  • This paper presents a case study with a multi-degree-of-freedom (MDOF) system where the Floor Response Spectra (FRS) have been derived from a large ensemble of ground motion accelerograms. The FRS are evaluated by the frequency response function which is calculated numerically. The advantage of this scheme over a repetitive time-history analysis of the entire structure for each accelerogram of the set has been highlighted. The present procedure permits generation of FRS with a specified probability of exceedence.
