  • In the event of loss of coolant accident (LOCA) and station black out (SBO) in the primary system of a nuclear reactor, the coolant water should be injected to reactor coolant system (RCS) without any intervention of operators or active components. To satisfy the requirements, hybrid safety injection tank (Hybrid SIT) was suggested by Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI). The pressure equalizing time of Hybrid SIT is an important parameter to determine the timing of coolant injection. To predict the pressure equalizing time of the Hybrid SIT, a separate effect test facility was constructed and sensitivity tests were conducted in various conditions. The main parameter determining the pressure equalizing time was obtained from separate effect test (SET) results. The wall of condensation on the inner wall of SIT and direct contact condensation on the water surface affected to the pressure equalizing time very much. In this study, the effect of each condensation phenomena on pressure equalizing time was quantitatively analyzed from results of SET and a prediction method of pressure equalizing time was proposed.

  • The measurement system of the pressure in engine cylinder is developed with the aids of the microcomputer, A/D converter and simple electrical circuits. The experiment is performed in 4 cycle single cylinder Gasoline engine. When data for the pressure progress is sampled, clock signal or signal from the crank angle is used as trigger. The variation of the pressure during the cycles can be well obtained experimentally. So, the informations which are necessary in the combustion analysis, i.e. expansion pressure, indicated mean effective pressure, the magnitude and time of the maximum pressure ignition time, the rate of pressure rise and heat release and combustion rates can be obtained by the calculation using experimental data. Also, the informations about the after-burning process, the existence of the detonation waves and end time of combustion can be investigated from this study.

  • This paper describes a simple and practical approach through the application of Linear Stochastic Estimation (LSE) to reconstruct wind-induced pressure time series from the covariance matrix for structural load analyses on a low building roof. The main application of this work would be the reduction of the data storage requirements for the NIST aerodynamic database. The approach is based on the assumption that a random pressure field can be estimated as a linear combination of some other known pressure time series by truncating nonlinear terms of a Taylor series expansion. Covariances between pressure time series to be simulated and reference time series are used to calculate the estimation coefficients. The performance using different LSE schemes with selected reference time series is demonstrated by the reconstruction of structural load time series in a corner bay for three typical wind directions. It is shown that LSE can simulate structural load time series accurately, given a handful of reference pressure taps (or even a single tap). The performance of LSE depends on the choice of the reference time series, which should be determined by considering the balance between the accuracy, data-storage requirements and the complexity of the approach. The approach should only be used for the determination of structural loads, since individual reconstructed pressure time series (for local load analyses) will have larger errors associated with them.

  • In order to investigate the optimum condition of the autofrettage process for the diesel engine injection pipe, different values of autofrettage pressure, pressure rising time, pressure holding time, and repetition of autofrettage process were applied. Autofrettage was preformed by applying the hydrostatic internal pressures of 603 MPa, 535 MPa, 500 MPa on the fuel injection pipe, corresponding to theoretically 50%, 30%, and 20% overstrain levels, respectively. The autofrettage residual stresses in the injection pipe were experimentally determined by using X-ray diffractometer. As the overstrain level increased, the magnitude of compressive residual stress at the bore increased. It was found that the rising time to reach the autofrettage pressure, holding time at the autofrettage pressure, and repeating application of the autofrettage pressure on the pipe had no significant influence on the residual stress distributions.

  • For the evaluation of the normalized impact sound pressure level, the reverberation time of the receiving room should be measured. This paper deals with the effect of the time constant of FFT analyzer and the measuring points on reverberation time. It is found that the time constant should be in the range between 10 ms and 35 ms. While the effect of measuring points on the reverberation time is significant when the bandwidth is narrow it is negligible in the evaluation of the normalized impact sound pressure level.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the measurements of blood pressure and time using manual and automatic blood pressure monitors in various road conditions to verify reliable blood pressure monitor in a moving ambulance. First, the manual blood pressure monitor palpation on unpaved roads showed a systolic pressure deviation of 5 mmHg. However, the automatic blood pressure monitor showed two measurement failures, one reading failure, and the measured systolic pressure deviation was 35 mmHg. The measurement time was 102 seconds faster on average than the automatic blood pressure monitor. Second, the palpation of the manual blood pressure monitor while going over speed bumps remained constant at 130 mmHg. However, the automatic blood pressure monitor had a systolic pressure deviation of 52 mmHg. The measurement time was 61 seconds faster on average than the automatic blood pressure monitor. Finally, the manual blood pressure monitor palpation on the sharp curve road showed a systolic pressure deviation of 5 mmHg. The automatic blood pressure monitor had one reading failure and the measured systolic pressure deviation was 21 mmHg. The measurement time showed that the manual blood pressure monitor was 101 seconds faster than the automatic blood pressure monitor. As a result, in a moving ambulance during an emergency, the manual blood pressure monitor showed high reliability because the blood pressure measurement was constant and the measurement time was short.

  • Measurements were made of pressure rise time (PoRT), voice cessation time, flattened peak intraoral air pressure (Po), pressure static time (PoST), pressure-fall time and the duration of oral closure as four English speakers uttered isolated nonsense $V_{1}CV_{2}$ words containing /b/ and /p/ ($V_{1}=V_{2}$ and the V was /$\alpha$/), with stress on either $V_{1}orV_{2}$ alternately. The hypothesis tested was: The tense stop consonant. will be characterized either by a higher Po or a longer PoST, and/or by both against lax. Findings: (1) PoRT was significantly greater in /b/ than /p/, (2) the voiceless stop /p/ produced generally greater mean Po, averaged across five tokens, than its voiced counterpart /b/, but statistically insignificant, and (3) altogether, across stress, tokens and subjects, the difference in the calculated pressure static time (PoSTc), i.e., PoST + PoRT, between /p/ and /b/ was highly significant (p $\leq$ 0.003). Although further investigations remain to be taken, the results strongly supported the linguistic hypothesis of tense-lax distinction, with /b/ being lax and /p/ tense. Airflow resistance at the glottis and supraglottal air volume are assumed to be responsible for much of difference in PoRT between /p/ and /b/. The PoSTc reflecting, although indirectly, the respiratory efforts during the oral closure of a stop, was a convincing phonetic parameter of the consonantal tenseness based on respiratory efforts. The effects of stress on Po and PoSTc were inconsistent, and the shorter PoRT than consonantal constriction interval was always accompanied by Po and PoST.

  • To consider effects of essential parameters of water impact pressure on dynamic structural responses of bow bottom structures, a parametric study for a ship bottom panel is carried out. The idealized pressure time history models were assumed by triangular and rectangular shapes in time domain. The main loading parameters are duration time and peak pressure value maintaining the same impulse value. The structural models for local bottom stiffened panels of a container ship are analysed. The natural frequency analysis and transient dynamic response analysis are performed using MSC/NASTRAN. Added mass effects of contacting water are considered and the pressure distributions are assumed to be uniform in the whole water contacting surface. The effects of loading parameters on the structural responses, especially maximum displacements, are considered. Besides the peak pressure value, effects of duration time correlated with natural frequencies are thought to be the important parameters.

  • According to the original documents, Sagungsan is considered as an effective drug for controlling the hypertensive epistaxis induced by tension of autonomic nerve and it's hyperfunction. The present experiment was designed to understand the effect of Sagungsan extract on the hemostatic action, intracranial pressure, blood pressure and cardiovascular system in experimental animals. And thus the bleeding time, prothrombin time, capillary dilation, blood pressure, Intracranial pressure, and enzymatic analysis of the ATPase activities were studied. The result obtained here were as followings: 1. Sagungsan water extract reduced the bleeding time in mouse, and prolonged the prothrombin time in rabbits. 2. The drug extract increased the tail volume by capillary dilation in rats. 3. The drug extract inhibited the increase of intracranial pressure and arterial blood pressure in rabbits. 4. At the early time, the increase of arterial blood pressure by the drug extract significantly inhibited by pretreated atropin and regitine in rabbits. 5. The drug extract relaxed the smooth muscle by stimulating the Mg2+-Ca2+-ATPase activities of gastric sarcoplasmic reticulum isolated from rabbit stomach. 6. The drug extract stimulated the heart contraction by inhibiting the $Mg^{2+}-Ca^{2+}-ATPase$ activities of cardiac sarcoplasmic reticulum isolated from rabbit heart. The inhibitory mechanism was reversible and noncompatitive. 7. The drug extract increased the hepatic blood volume by stimulating the hepatic total ATPase activities and hepatic metabolism. 8. The drug extract acted as a tranquilizer by inhibiting the neural Na+-K+-ATPase activity. According to the results, Sagungsan water extract dilated the capillaries, stimulated the heart beat, and thus increased the blood flow with decreasing the intracranial pressure and blood pressure. These effects stanches the epistaxis collectively.

  • Magnesium alloy has been known as lightweight material in automobile and electronic industry with aluminum alloy, titanium alloy and plastic material. Friction welding is useful to join different kinds of metals and nonferrous metals they are difficult to be joined by such as gas welding, resistance welding and electronic beam welding. In this study, friction welding was performed to investigate optimization process of Mg alloy with a 20mm diameter solid bar. For that, the orthogonal array $(L_{9}(3^{4}))$ was used that contained four factors and each factor had three levels. Control factors were heating pressure, heating time, upsetting pressure and upsetting time. Also tensile tests were carried out to measure mechanical properties for welded conditions. The levels of heating pressure and upsetting pressure used were 15, 25, 35MPa, and 30, 50, 70MPa, respectively. In addition those of heating time and upsetting time were 0.5, 1, 1.5 sec and 3, 4, 5 sec., respectively, rotating speed of 2000rpm. From the experimental results, optimization condition was estimated as follows; heating pressure=35MPa, upsetting pressure=70MPa, heating time=1.5sec, upsetting time=3sec.
