  • Generally time of arrival (TOA) information via two way communications can be derived by accurate round trip time (RTT) between two devices. However, response time demanded in RTT measurement is long, a serious TOA error is caused by each different clock drift between two devices. In order to solve this problem, we propose the TOA and time difference of arrival (TDOA) estimation scheme with mitigating clock drift effect. To verify the performance of proposed method, we compared the proposed scheme with one way based TDOA acquisition method introduced by IEEE 802.15.4a Task Group and then we could conclude that the proposed method has better performance over other methods.

  • Due to the epochal development of the unmanned technology, the importance of LDT(: Location Detection Technology), which accurately estimates the location of a user or object, is dramatically increased. TOA(: Time of Arrival), which calculates a location by measuring the arrival time of signals, and TDOA(: Time Difference of Arrival) which calculates it by measuring the difference between two arrival times, are representative LDT methods. Based on the signals received from three or more base stations, TOA calculates an intersection point by drawing circles and TDOA calculates it by drawing hyperbolas. In order to improve the radio shadow area problem, a huge number of repeaters have been installed in the urban area, but the signals received through these repeaters may cause the serious error for estimating a location. In this paper, we propose an efficient location estimation technique using the signal received through the repeater. The proposed approach estimates the location of MS(: Mobile Station) employing TOA and TDOA methods, based on signals received from one repeater and two BS(: Base Station)s.

  • In this paper, we propose the Location Awareness System adjusting Ranging Technology for CSS(Chirp Spread Spectrum) which is adopted on 2.45GHz standard in IEEE 802.15.4a and TOA(Time-of-Arrival) algorithm. The conventional methods have adopted RSSI, ultrasonic waves and infrared rays in Zigbee. RSSI measures strength indication of received signal and recognizes the position of nodes in RF boundary. However, this technology has the following problems; lots of error by the change of the channel environment and much power consumption. In this paper, adopting chirp pulse on 2.45GHz standard in IEEE 802.15.4a and SDS-TWR(Symmetrical Double Side-Two Way Ranging) method using the characteristic of Spread Spectrum, a new Location Awareness System is suggested. The distance and the coordinate are measured within ${\pm}\;5cm$ by TOA(Time of Arrival) algorithm and proposed algorithm and the data in error rate is decreased less than 1%. Through these results, the algorithm suggested in this paper is verified for its performance in a computer simulation.

  • MLAT which is an independent cooperative surveillance system is applied to increase the positon resoultin of secondary survelliance radar. MLAT uses the hyperboic or hyperboloid position mesurement algorithm. Central processing unit of MLAT calculates target position using time difference of arrival (TDOA) which can be solved from time of arrival (TOA) information of each receivers (at least 4 receivers). To increase position resolution of MLAT which use TDOA, TOA which is transfer time from tranmitter to receiver shold be calculated with precision time resolution in receiver. This paper explained the MLAT system briefly and explained ATD which is one of means of calcuating pulse position. ATD is applied to solve the deviation of pulse position due to different amplitude of signals in mulitiple receivers. In this paper, to analysis the performance of ATD, the simulation result of LAS and CDS was compared with the simulation result of basic threshold method.

  • This paper addresses the problem of joint time of arrival (TOA) and direction of arrival (DOA) estimation in impulse radio ultra-wideband systems with a two-antenna receiver and links the joint estimation of TOA and DOA to the sparse representation framework. Exploiting this link, an orthogonal matching pursuit algorithm is used for TOA estimation in the two antennas, and then the DOA parameters are estimated via the difference in the TOAs between the two antennas. The proposed algorithm can work well with a single measurement vector and can pair TOA and DOA parameters. Furthermore, it has better parameter-estimation performance than traditional propagator methods, such as, estimation of signal parameters via rotational invariance techniques algorithms matrix pencil algorithms, and other new joint-estimation schemes, with one single snapshot. The simulation results verify the usefulness of the proposed algorithm.

  • In an ultrawide band (UWB) indoor wireless localization, time of arrival (TOA) parameter estimation techniques have some difficulties in acquiring a reasonable TOA estimate because of the clustered multipath components overlapping or random time intervals mainly due to non line-of-sight (NLOS) environment. In order to solve that problem and achieve an excellent UWB indoor wireless localization, we propose a UWB signal model and a robust TOA parameter estimation technique that has little effect on the clustered problems unlike the conventional technique. Through simulation studies, the validity of the proposed model and the TOA estimation technique are examined. The performance of estimation error is also analyzed.

  • A new diversity combining scheme is proposed for time-of-arrival (TOA) estimation of chirp signal in dense multipath channel. In the multipath channel, the performance of TOA estimation using conventional correlation matrix-based diversity combining scheme is degraded due to the lack of de-correlation effect. To increase the de-correlation effect, the proposed diversity scheme employs interleaving method based on the property of de-chirped signal. As a result, the proposed scheme increases de-correlation effect and also reduces the noise of TOA estimation. Finally, the diversity achieved from the proposed scheme improves TOA estimation performance. The de-correlation effect is analyzed mathematically. The estimation accuracy of the proposed diversity scheme is superior to that of conventional diversity scheme in multipath channel.

  • The performance analysis of wireless geolocation in a non-line-of-sight (NLOS) environment is a very important issue. Since Cramer-Rao lower bound (CRLB) determines the physical impossibility of the variance of an unbiased estimator being less than the bound, many studies presented the performance analysis in terms of CRLB. Several CRLBs for time-of-arrival (TOA), pseudo-range TOA, angle-of-arrival (AOA), and signal strength (SS) based positioning methods have been derived for NLOS environment. However, the performance analysis of time difference of arrival (TDOA) and TDOA/SS based geolocation techniques in a NLOS environment is still an opening issue. This paper derives the CRLBs of TDOA and TDOA/SS based positioning methods for NLOS environment. In addition, theoretical analysis proves that the derived CRLB for TDOA is the same as that of pseudo-range TOA and the TDOA/SS scheme has a lower CRLB than the TDOA (or SS) scheme.

  • In this paper, we propose an effective time-of-arrival (TOA)-based localization method with adaptive bias computation in indoor environments. The goal of the localization is to estimate an accurate target's location in wireless localization system. However, in indoor environments, non-line-of-sight (NLOS) errors block the signal propagation between target device and base station. The NLOS errors have significant effects on ranging between two devices for wireless localization. In TOA-based localization, finding the target's location inside the overlapped area in the TOA-circles is difficult. We present an effective localization method using compensated distance with adaptive bias computation. The proposed method is possible for the target's location to estimate an accurate location in the overlapped area using the measured distances with subtracted adaptive bias. Through localization experiments in indoor environments, estimation error is reduced comparing to the conventional localization methods.

Our goal guides taking shelter of the sufferer it will not be able to use a GPS when the fire occurs from subway station. There are Location measurement methods which measures the AOA(Angle of Arrival) of the signal which it sends with the MS(Mobile station) from the BS(Base station), an electronic delivery time (TOA:Time of Arrival) and the relative difference of electronic arrival time from Base stations (TDOA:Time Difference of Arrival). This time the error due to a multiplex course error and near-far problem and NLOS(Non Line of Sight). We are planning to construct the Test Bed which is an error below 1 meter.
