Coupling loss is generated by the time-varying external magnetic field in the normal matrix of the multi-filamentary HTS tape. This paper calculates the coupling loss in the HTS tape. Analytic calculation of the coupling loss cannot consider the effect of the different shapes and the arrangement of the filaments. Numerical calculation by using finite element method and analytic calculation of the coupling loss have been done in this paper and results of two calculations have been compared. Transverse magnetic field and longitudinal magnetic field were considered as the external field.

In this paper, AC losses of long wire Bi-2223 tapes with different twist pitch of superconducting core were fabricated, measured and analyzed. These samples produced by a powder-in-tube method are multi-filamentary tape with Ag matrix. Also, it's produced by non-twist. The critical current measurement was carried out under the environment in Liquid nitrogen and in zero field by 4-prob method. And the Magnetic measurement was carried out under the environment of applied time-varying transport current by transport method. From experiment, the susceptibility measurements were conducted while cooling in a magnetic field. Flux loss measurements were conducted as a function of ramping rate, frequency and field direction. The AC flux loss increases as the twist-pitch of the tapes decreased, in agreement with the Norris Equation. Neutron-diffraction measurements have been carried out investigate the crystal structure, magnetic structures, and magnetic phase transitions in Bi-2223([Bi, Pb]:Sr:Ca:Cu:O).
When a patient takes an MRI scan, the patient has a risk of unexpected injuries due to the intensive electromagnetic (EM) field. Among the injuries, the tissue heating by the time-varying EM field is one of the main issues. Since an implanted artificial structure with a conductive material aggravates the heating effect, lots of studies have been conducted to investigate the effect around the implants. In this review article, a mechanism of RF heating around the implants and related studies are comprehensively investigated.
An inductively coupled magnetical signal (pulse wave, 0.7 to 60Hz, eighteen volts peak to Peak) that was applied non-invasively on the skin surface overlying the approximate site(measure position). In the group with unipolar pulse signal currents produced smaller than in the group with bipolar pulse signal. The signal was transmitted to the active coil, including a time-varying magnetic field: this in turn induced a the-varying electrical field in the field in the bone. It is very important to determine system parameters due to treatment time(healing) and the simplicity. This paper investigation was designed to compare the relative effects of pulsed unipolar currents with the effects of an identical pulsed bipolar currents. Since Inductive coupling is non-invasive and involves portable equipment, it is easy to apply and requires precise localization, it has distinct advantages and field characteristics along the bone for each different signal.
The goal of this study is construction and efficacy evaluation of MPC-25 (Magnetic Pain Control-25), a medical device using magnetic stimulation. MPC-25 consists of a main body containing power supply and control module and a bed containing magnetic core and coil. In distinction from electric pain control medical devices, magnetic pain control system is non-contact, so the patients need not take off their clothes to be treated. High amplitude current pulses are applied to a magnetic coil and induce time varying magnetic field generating eddy current in a conductor like human body. Clinical efficacy test was performed in patients suffering from musculoskeletal pain of lumbar, shoulder and joint. Degree of pain before and after treatment for 30 minutes was compared using Visual Analogous Scale. As a result, 14 cases out of 20 showed decreased pain perception, so the rate of efficacy is 70%. Reduction of pain perception was statistically significant (P=0.001 by Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test).
Once high current flows through the vacuum interrupter, eddy current occurs due to the time-varying axial magnetic field caused by the current(AC) and it causes a decrease in axial magnetic field generated by current flowing through coil electrode. but if there are slots on contact electrode it is possible to increase the amplitude of axial magnetic field by reducing the influence of eddy current. there has been many studies about the number of slot of the contact electrode[1][2][3]. In this paper, in addition to these previous results we deal with the influence of the length and width of the slots on axial magnetic field at the mid-gap plane in 4 segment coil type vacuum interrupter by using 3D finite element method software.
The pumping of coolant in a liquid metal fast reactor may be performed with an annular linear induction electro-magnetic (EM) pump. Linear induction pumps use a traveling magnetic field wave created by poly-phase currents, and the induced currents and their associated magnetic field generate a Lorentz force, whose effect can be the pumping of the liquid metal. The flow behaviors in the pump are very complex, including a time-varying Lorentz force and pressure pulsation, because an induction EM pump has time-varying magnetic fields and the induced convective currents that originate from the flow of the liquid metal. These phenomena lead to an instability problem in the pump arising from the changes of the generated Lorentz forces along the pump's geometry. Therefore, a magneto-hydro-dynamics (MHD) analysis is required for the design and operation of a linear induction EM pump. We have developed a time-harmonic 2-dimensional axisymmetry MHD analysis method based on the Maxwell equations. This paper describes the analysis and numerical method for obtaining solutions for some MHD parameters in an induction EM pump. Experimental test results obtained from an induction EM pump of CLIP-150 at the STC "Sintez," D.V. Efremov Institute of Electro-physical Apparatus in St. Petersburg were used to validate the method. In addition, we investigated some characteristics of a linear induction EM pump, such as the effect of the convective current and the double supply frequency (DSF) pressure pulsation. This simple model overestimated the convective eddy current generated from the sodium flow in the pump channel; however, it had a similar tendency for the measured data of the pump performance through a comparison with the experimental data. Considering its simplicity, it could be a base model for designing an EM pump and for evaluating the MHD flow in an EM pump.
Eddy current are induced when a nonmagnetic, conductive material is moving as the result of being subjected to the magnetic field, or if it is placed in a time-varying magnetic field. These currents circulate in the conductive material and are dissipated, causing a repulsive force between the magnet and conductor. Using this concept, eddy current damping can be used as a form of viscous damping. This paper investigated analytically and experimentally the characteristics of an eddy current damping when a permanent magnet is placed in a conductive tube. The theoretical model of the eddy current damping is developed from electromagnetics and is verified from Maxwell program and experiments. From these comparisons, although predictability is not accurate at high excitation frequencies, the present model can be used to predict damping force at low excitation frequencies. In order to improve the prediction of the characteristics of an eddy current damping, the induced magnetic flux densities have to be considered in following researches.
This paper describes the levitation mechanism using magnetic wheel for a maglev planar transportation system. Rotation of the magnetic wheel where the permanent magnet array is embedded produces the time varying traveling magnetic flux density and the generated magnetic flux density creates the induced levitation force and drag force with the conductor. Because the net drag force is zero, magnetic wheel can only generate the levitation force. Thus, it always guarantees the stability in levitation direction and it does not disturb other directional motion. In this paper, levitation principle of the magnetic wheel is analyzed using distributed field approach and dynamic characteristics of the levitation in the magnetic wheel system are estimated. The feasibility of the proposed levitation mechanism is verified through the several experimental works.
This paper deals with the characteristic analysis of the flux damper with respect to the load, and the stability of Ag/Bi-2223 tapes in a high-Tc superconducting (HTS) synchronous motor. To find out the magnetic field distribution in a detailed model of the actual motor, the experimentally measured currents of the armature and the field windings are used as input parameters. The simulation results show that the flux damper shields the time varying field up to 10%, reduces armature reactance during the motor operation and during load changes, improving the stable motor operation. And it was observed that the flux damper generates loss by means of leakage flux, but this is not significant and it doesn't degrade the performance of the TS synchronous motor.
