A Study on GPS/INS Integration Considering Low-Grade Sensors (저급 센서를 고려한 GPS/INS 결합기법 연구)

  • This paper proposes an efficient integration method for GPS (Global Positioning System) and INS (Inertial Navigation System). To obtain accuracy and computational conveniency at the same time with low cost global positioning system receivers and micro mechanical inertial sensors, a new mechanization method and a new filter architecture are proposed. The proposed mechanization method simplifies velocity and attitude computation by eliminating the need to compute complex transport rate related to the locally-level frame which continuously changes due to unpredictable vehicle motions. The proposed filter architecture adopts two heterogeneous filters, i.e. position-domain Hatch filter and velocity-aided Kalman filter. Due to distict characteristics of the two filters and the distribution of computation into the two hetegrogeneous filters, it eliminates the cascaded filter problem of the conventional loosly-coupled integration method and mitigates the computational burden of the conventional tightly-coupled integration method. An experiment result with field-collected measurements verifies the feasibility of the proposed method.

Time-domain hybrid method for simulating large amplitude motions of ships advancing in waves

  • Typical results obtained by a newly developed, nonlinear time domain hybrid method for simulating large amplitude motions of ships advancing with constant forward speed in waves are presented. The method is hybrid in the way of combining a time-domain transient Green function method and a Rankine source method. The present approach employs a simple double integration algorithm with respect to time to simulate the free-surface boundary condition. During the simulation, the diffraction and radiation forces are computed by pressure integration over the mean wetted surface, whereas the incident wave and hydrostatic restoring forces/moments are calculated on the instantaneously wetted surface of the hull. Typical numerical results of application of the method to the seakeeping performance of a standard containership, namely the ITTC S175, are herein presented. Comparisons have been made between the results from the present method, the frequency domain 3D panel method (NEWDRIFT) of NTUA-SDL and available experimental data and good agreement has been observed for all studied cases between the results of the present method and comparable other data.

Neighboring Optimal Control using Pseudospectral Legendre Method (Pseudospectral Legendre법을 이용한 근접 최적 제어)

  • The solutions of neighboring optimal control are typically obtained using the sweep method or transition matrices. Due to the numerical integration, however, the gain matrix can become infinite as time go to final one in the transition matrices, and the Riccati solution can become infinite when the final time free. To overcome these disadvantages, this paper proposes the pseudospectral Legendre method which is to first discreteize the linear boundary value problem using the global orthogonal polynomial, then transforms into an algebraic equations. Because this method is not necessary to take any integration of transition matrix or Riccati equation, it can be usefully used in real-time operation. Finally, its performance is verified by the numerical example for the space vehicle's orbit transfer.

  • The synchronization of Time Delay and Integration (TDI) against the temporal variation of osculating altitude in the operation of high resolution satellite imager was studied. The characteristics of osculating altitude variation was analyzed and its impact on the performance of TDI imger was also investigated. A practical ]me rate control method was proposed to compensate instantaneous TDI mismatch due to the osculating altitude variation, so that geometrical performance enhancement was achieved by the proposed method. This study is applicable to real satellite operation and can be useful for satellite image quality enhancement.

  • Two-dimensional explicit finite element code was developed. The transient dynamics code can analyse large deformations of non-linear materials subjected to extremely high strain rates. The Lagrangian finite element program uses an explicit time integration operator to integrate the equations of motion, thus the stiffness matrix is not introduced. Cylinder upsetting and ring compression problems are simulated to check the effects of friction and inertia force. It is shown that (1) calculated results agree very well with experimental results, (2) constant shear friction method overestimates the decrease of inner ring radius and then underestimates after on in comparison with the Coulomb friction method, and (3) the effect of the increase in initial strain rate is similar to the effect of higher frictional coefficient.

Time delay study for semi-active control of coupled adjacent structures using MR damper

  • The pounding phenomenon in adjacent structures happens in severing earthquakes that can cause great damages. Connecting neighboring structures with active and semi-active control devices is an effective method to avoid mutual colliding between neighboring buildings. One of the most important issues in control systems is applying online control force. There will be a time delay if the prose of producing control force does not perform on time. This paper proposed a time-delay compensation method in coupled structures control, with semi-active Magnetorheological (MR) damper. This method based on Newmark's integration is adopted to mitigate the time-delay effect. In this study, Lyapunov's direct approach is employed to compute demanded voltage for MR dampers. Using Lyapunov's direct algorithm guarantees the system stability to design a controller based on feedback. Because of the strong nonlinearity of MR dampers, the equation of motion of coupled structures becomes an involved equation, and it is impossible to solve it with the common time step methods. In present paper modified Newmark-Beta integration based on the instantaneous optimal control algorithm, used to solve the involved equation. In this method, the response of a coupled system estimated base on optimal control force. Two MDOF structures with different degrees of freedom are finally considered as a numeric example. The numerical results show, the Newmark compensation is an efficient method to decrease the negative effect of time delay in coupled systems; furthermore, instantaneous optimal control algorithm can estimate the response of structures suitable.

Using integrated displacement method to time-history analysis of steel frames with nonlinear flexible connections

  • Most connections of steel structures exhibit flexible behaviour under cyclic loading. The flexible connections can be assumed as nonlinear rotational springs attached to the ends of each beam. The nonlinear behaviour of the connections can be considered by suitable moment-rotation relationship. Time-history analysis by direct integration method can be used as a powerful technique to determine the nonlinear dynamic response of the structure. In conventional numerical integration, the response is evaluated for a series of short time increments. The limitations on the size of time intervals can be removed by using Chen and Robinson improved time history analysis method, in which the integrated displacements are used as the new variables in integrated equation of motion. The proposed method permits longer time intervals and reduces the computational works. In this paper the nonlinearity behaviour of the structure is summarized on the connections, and the step by step improved time-history analysis is used to calculate the dynamic response of the structure. Several numerical calculations which indicate the applicability and advantages of the proposed methodology are presented. These calculations illustrate the importance of the effect of the nonlinear behaviour of the flexible connections in the calculation of the dynamic response of steel frames.

DELTA-FORMULATION OF A SEGREGATED NAVIER-STOKES SOLVER WITH A DUAL-TIME INTEGRATION (이중시간적분법을 이용한 순차적 유동해석 기법)

  • The delta-formulation of the Navier-Stokes equations has been popularly used in the aerodynamics area. Implicit algorithm can be easily implemented in that by using Taylor series expansion. This formulation is extended for an unsteady analysis by using a dual-time integration. In the meanwhile, the incompressible flows with heat transfers which occur in the area of thermo-hydraulics have been solved by a segregated algorithm such as the SIMPLE method, where each equation is discretised by using an under-relaxed deferred correction method and solved sequentially. In this study, the dual-time delta formulation is implemented in the segregated Navier-Stokes solver which is based on the collocated cell-centerd scheme with un unstructured mesh FVM. The pressure correction equation is derived by the SIMPLE method. From this study, it was found that the Euler dual-time method in the delta formulation can be combined with the SIMPLE method.

A Numerical Method to Calculate Drainage Time in Large Transmission Pipelines Filter (대구경 관로의 배수시간 산정을 위한 수치해석 기법)

  • Multi-regional water supply system, which installed for supplying multiple water demands, is characterized by large-sized, long-distance, tree-type layout. This system is vulnerable to long-standing service interruption when a pipe breaks is occurred. In this study, a numerical method is proposed to calculate drainage time that directly affects time of service interruption. To begin with, governing equations are formulated to embed the delayed drainage effect by the friction loss, and to resolve complicated connection of pipelines, which are derived from the continuity and energy equations. The nonlinear hydraulic equations are solved by using explicit time integration method and the Newton-Raphson method. The developed model is verified by comparing the result with analytical solution. Furthermore, the model's applicability is validated by the examples of pipelines in serial, in parallel, and complex layout. Finally, the model is utilized to suggest an appropriate actions to reduce the deviation of draining time in the C transmission line of the B multi-regional water supply system.

Performance Analysis of a Residual Frequency Estimator for Weak AGPS Signals in Frequency Domain (약 신호 환경의 AGPS를 위한 잔여주파수 추정기의 주파수 영역 성능 분석)

  • In AGPS method, user position can be obtained even in the shadow region by improving signal sensitivity. A hybrid long integration scheme employing both coherent and non-coherent integration method is commonly used in AGPS receivers. Because coherent loss increases as residual frequency become large, residual frequency should be minimized to maximize coherent integration gain. This paper presents performance analysis of residual frequency estimator using FFT in fine-time assistance AGPS method. Considering the hardware complexity and the estimation accuracy, optimal length of FFT is proposed for GPS L1 C/A signal. Signal sensitivity for estimating the residual frequency is also analysed. By field experimental results, it is found that the residual frequency can be successfully estimated using 1 second snap-shot data when GPS signal strength is larger than -150 dBm and its RMS error is 3Hz.
