NDIR CO2 Gas Sensor for Improving Indoor Air Quality (실내 공기질 향상을 위한 비분산 적외선 이산화탄소 가스센서)

  • We have simulated and proposed novel optical cavity, which has two elliptical mirrors, for NDIR gas sensor module and have tested it from 0 ppm to 2,000 ppm $CO_2$ concentration. The proposed sensor module shows the maximum peak voltage at 500 ms pulse modulation time, however, it shows a maximum voltage changes at 200 ms pulse duration with 18,000 times amplification gain. From 0 ppm to 2,000 ppm, the voltage difference of sensor module $({\Delta}V)$ shows 360 mV at 200 ms pulse duration and 3 sec turn-off time. The response time of designed sensor module is about 30 seconds.

Gender Effects on Voice Cessation Time in Intervocalic Lax (Voiced) Obstruents

  • This study examines whether gender influences voice cessation time (voicing duration) of lax (voiced) obstruents. Females more frequently show a posterior glottal opening throughout a vibratory cycle and have larger open quotients and less vocal fold contact than males. The gender differences imply that females can yield less voicing in their speech. In line with this, we hypothesized that the male voice is more voiced than the female voice in intervocalic lax (voiced) obstruents. This hypothesis was supported by the results of the present experiment, i.e., males exhibited significantly longer voicing and higher percentage of voicing relative to consonant duration than females during the intervocalic lax obstruents /p, t, k, c/ of Korean. Based on the results and the literature review, it is further hypothesized that the vocal folds are more likely adducted for males while abducted for females. The experimental data also indicated that males speak faster than females.

  • In general, deflection limit criteria of bridge design specifications would have been considered based on the static serviceability and structural stability. Dynamic serviceability induced from bridge vibration, as a comfort limit, actually has not been included in the criteria. Thus, it is necessary for dynamic serviceability to be considered in bridge vibration problems and for comfort limit on vibration to be needed for evaluating dynamic serviceability of bridges. In this paper, comfort limits of bridge structures considering the time duration exposed by vibration were examined with frequency and time dependent comfort limits, and they were evaluated by using the vibration signals measured from the existing bridges. Therefore, it is resulted that the time-dependent comfort limit considering the duration of vibration is an efficient estimate for evaluating dynamic serviceability of bridges.

  • In MC-CDMA systems effects of delay spread of the channel are reduced with increased symbol duration by simultaneously transmitting data symbols on the parallel subcarriers. However, the increased symbol duration causes the system to be more vulnerable to time selective fading. In this paper, we investigate the effects of time selective fading characteristics of the mobile channel from the viewpoint of desired signal power to inter-carrier interference power ratio at the combiner output of the MC-CDMA receiver.

  • This paper represents a real time algorithm which improves the some drawbacks in the past methods for detection of the QRS conplexes of ECG signals. In the conventional method we can't detect QRS complex and QRS duration more correctly in case of (1) the contaminated ECG with 60Hz noise, muscle noise. (2) the movement of the baseline for a QRS complex. (3) being abnormal QRS complex with prolonging QRS. Therefore, we have proposed a new algorithm which can detect accurate QRS complex detection in case of the contaminated ECG with 60Hz noise, muscle noise, and movement of baseline for QRS complex. Moreover, in case of prolonging QRS we accomplished to detect not only QRS complex but also a single pulse that has a width proportional to QRS duration. This algorithm which is proposed in our paper in our paper in programmed with 6502 assembly language for real time ECG signal processing.

  • Speech coding techniques have been studied to reduce the complexity and bit rate but also to improve the sound quality. CELP type vocoder, has used as a one of standard, supports the great sound quality even low bit rate. In this paper, the preprocessing of input speech to reduce the bit rate is the different with the conventional vocoder. The different kinds of parameter are used for the preprocessing so this paper is compared with theses parameters for finding the more appropriate parameter for the vocoder. The parameters are used to synthesize the speech not to encode or decode for coding technique so we proposed the simple algorithm not to have the influence on the processing time or the computation time. The parameters in used the preprocessing step are speaking rate, duration and PSOLA technique.

An experimental study on occurrence of intermediate peaks in ice load signals

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the relationship between the occurrence of intermediate peak and time duration, and to conduct a review for the causes of the intermediate peak. In this test, ice impact tests were conducted using a bow side shell frame and ice specimen. A total of 70 samples were manufactured. Two types of ice specimen with relatively different surface conditions were used. The criterion for dividing the two types of ice specimen was the different exposure times to room temperature after freezing. This experiment was conducted for each parameter in order to reproduce the actual icebreaking situation. As a result of the analysis, the intermediate peak in the ice load signal have been found to be caused by mechanisms by which the inner surface of broken ice contact with hull immediately after the initial hitting point of ice has been broken.

Effect of Herbal Bath for Duration of Pediatric Fever : a Systematic Review and Meta-analysis (한약재 약욕요법이 소아 발열기간에 미치는 영향 : 체계적 문헌고찰 및 메타분석)

  • Objective The purpose of this study is to evaluate whether herbal bath shortens the duration of pediatric fever. Methods Databases, such as Medline, EMBASE, Cochrane library, OASIS, KISS, KMBASE, CNKI, Wanfang Med Online were used to search randomized controlled trials. Those trials that included children younger than 18-year-old were evaluated for the clinical efficacy of herbal bath in fever by analyzing 'body temperature (BT) drop start time' and 'time to return to normal BT'. Results 12 studies or 1306 participants were analyzed in the study. When applying herbal bath in combination with the controlled treatment, 'BT drop start time' was decreased by 0.11 hours, and 'time to return to normal BT' was decreased by 10.94 hours compared to the controlled group. When comparing herbal bath with tepid bath, 'time to return to normal BT' was reduced by 8.19 hours in herbal bath group. In regards to safety, 3 studies out of 12 studies mentioned about its adverse events: 2 studies did not have any adverse events, and a minor needle-shaped bleeding had occurred in one of the studies. Conclusion Use of herbal bath as a treatment of fever in children was associated with shortened duration of fever. However, cautious interpretation is necessary due to its limited safety data.

Analysis of Available Time of Cloud Seeding in South Korea Using Radar and Rain Gauge Data During 2017-2022 (2017-2022년 남한지역 레이더 및 지상 강수 자료를 이용한 인공강우 항공 실험 가능시간 분석)

  • The possible experimental time for cloud seeding was analyzed in South Korea. Rain gauge and radar precipitation data collected from September 2017 to August 2022 in from the three main target stations of cloud seeding experimentation (Daegwallyeong, Seoul, and Boryeong) were analyzed. In this study, the assumption that rainfall and cloud enhancement originating from the atmospheric updraft is a necessary condition for the cloud seeding experiment was applied. First, monthly and seasonal means of the precipitation duration and frequency were analyzed and cloud seeding experiments performed in the past were also reanalyzed. Results of analysis indicated that the experiments were possible during a monthly average of 7,025 minutes (117 times) in Daegwallyeong, 4,849 minutes (81 times) in Seoul, and 5,558 minutes (93 times) in Boryeong, if experimental limitations such as the insufficient availability of aircraft is not considered. The seasonal average results showed that the possible experimental time is the highest in summer at all three stations, which seems to be owing to the highest precipitable water in this period. Using the radar-converted precipitation data, the cloud seeding experiments were shown to be possible for 970-1,406 hours (11-16%) per year in these three regions in South Korea. This long possible experimental time suggests that longer duration, more than the previous period of 1 hour, cloud seeding experiments are available, and can contribute to achieving a large accumulated amount of enhanced rainfall.

  • In this study, we propose a new method that utilizes rainfall data in and out of a basin, which is greater than 25.4mm for point rainfall or 12.7mm for areal mean rainfall respectively. From our analysis, most frequent quartile for point and areal mean rainfall were found to be the same in general for various rainfall duration intervals. From an evaluation of design rainfall per each rainfall duration distributed in time by the MOCT(Ministry of Construction and Transportation) version of Huff's method and this study, peak rainfall intensity by this study was found to be greater than the one by MOCT, but there were no consistent increase or decrease of this difference with rainfall durations. Using the distributed design rainfall per each duration by MOCT and this study, corresponding flood inflow hydrographs were simulated and compared each other. Contrary to the case of peak rainfall intensity, difference in peak flow by both methods per each rainfall duration started to increase from about 12-hr duration. Especially, the difference in peak flow was significant when critical rainfall duration was considered, and this trend was similar for peak flows of other rainfall durations. Therefore, the method proposed in this study is thought to be the effective procedure for the construction of dimensionless cumulative rainfall curve that is representative of a basin while considering time distribution characteristics for different rainfall durations.
