A prototype surface flow constructed wetland was built in the upstream area of reclaimed tidal lands to improve the water quality of Lake Sihwa by treating severely polluted stream water. In this study, a tracer test using rhodamine-WT was performed to investigate the flow characteristics and to quantify the observed hydraulic residence time (HRT) for a high-lying cell in the Banwol wetland of the Sihwa constructed wetland. The tracer test indicated that even if flow was mainly observed in the open water area of the Banwol wetland, water flowed continuously in the vegetative area and there was no dead zone. The calculated HRT (51.3 hrs), calculated by dividing the wetland volume by the wetland inflow, exceeded the observed HRT (38.7 hrs), since the short-circuiting of flux resulting from irregular topography and vegetation was not reflected in the calculated HRT. The exit tracer concentration curves were reproduced well by both the plug flow with dispersion and tanks-in-series models, indicating that the performance of the Banwol wetland can be estimated accurately using these models.
This study was analyzed to determine the cause of red tide at 10 and 30 days antecedental rainfall, stage and discharge in the Taehwa River, tidal data of Ulsan port, also, it was analyzed variation of red tide population, salinity, BOD, COD, T-N, T-P at S1, S2 each point. Most of the red tide in the Taehwa River occurred by provision of proper nutrients with antecedent, the proximity between discharge and low-flow capacity, and stage and discharge of stabilized condition after the sea water was inflowed by maximum tide difference. Red tide population is not nearly related to the change of salinity, the Taehwa River seems specific features of Non-coastal rivers downstream, because red tide was occurred when salinity quite low-end condition.
The stochastic variations and structures of time series data on water quality were examined by employing the techniques of autocorrelation function, variance spectrum, Fourier series, autoregressive model and ARIMA model. These time series included hourly and daily observation on DO, turbidity, conductivity pH and water temperature. The measurement was made by automatic recording instrument at Noryangjin and Dook-do located in the downstream part of Han River during 1975 and 1976. Hourly water quality time series varied with the dominant 24-hour periodicity, and the 12-hour periodicity was also observed. An important factor affecting 24-hour periodic variation of DO is believed to be photosynthesis by algae. These phenomena might be attributable to periodic discharges of municipal sewage. Noryangjin site showed the more distinct 12-hour periodicity than Dook-do site did, and tidal effect might be responsible for the difference. The water quality, as measured by DO and turbidity, was better in the afternoon compared with the quality in the morning. This change can be explained by the periodic variation of DO, temperature and the amount of municipal wewage discharge. It was also observed that the water temperature at Noryangjin was higher than the temperature at Dook-do. This difference might have been caused by the pollutants that were added to the section between two sites. The correlation coefficients between some of the variables were fairly high. For example, the coefficient was -0.88 between DO and water temperature, 0.75 between turbidity and river flow, and 0.957 between water temperature and air temperature. The lag time of heat transfer from the air to the water was estimated as 24 days. The first order auto-regressive model was appropriate for explaning standardized hourly DO time series. The ARIMA model of (1, 0, 0) type provided relatively satisfactory results for daily DO time series after the removal of significant harmonic value.

Regarding the need of energy in advance and the depletion of fossil fuel energy, all researches around the world now are trying to extract energy from many alternative sources especially the renewable one. Solar, ocean tidal, wind and geothermal energy are renewable energy fields which many researches are focused on. This paper explains about effort to replace electric pump used in solar water heating system by bubble pump. The utilization of bubble pump in this system is very efficient since it needs heat energy for its operation that can be obtained easily. In addition, it can also simplify the construction of the system. Bubble pump also functions as a controller to circulate water inside the system. Before the installation of bubble pump, the special quality and performance of bubble pump should be analyzed. The result got from the analysis could show the fluctuation of water flow rate occurred because it sensitively reacts to the heat quantity. Here the heat quantity is taken from the solar that, as we know, is not stable in a whole day. Problems often occurred are the flow rate in this system is very low moreover it could be stop if the pressure exceeds the limit.
A dynamic model for the pollutant transport analysis in a river is developed by preissmann scheme and lagrangian method considering tidal effects. A generalized Lagranian model alleviate the numerical difficulties associated with the use of the Eulerian reference frame. Comparing the finite difference and finite element solutions of one-dimensional transport equation, Lagrangian model shows the most stable and accurate results. The flow model is calibrated using the recorded flood data in the downstream of the Han River. The particle paths-of-travel is computed by the model for the various low flow conditions. The model will provide operational informations useful for water quality management in the downstream of the Han River.

The inflow from Daejeo gate and the outflow from Noksan gate in Seonakdong river, which is a reservoir-like river with the characteristics of stagnant water, is very important for TMDLs (Total Maximum Daily Load) of Nakbon N unit watershed. However, there are very few measured data for calculating base flow. The operating data is much different from the actual measured data because the probable maximum flowrate is used for gate operation. In this study, the operating flowrate data of Daejeo and Noksan gates are compared with the monthly water quality data from Ministry of Environment monitoring station. The dynamic change of the flowrate and the water quality is also measured for the operation of Daejeo and Noksan gates. The flowrate of Seonakdong river is measured, which is affected by the gate operation, the water elevation difference of Nakdong river and Seonakdong river, and the tidal elevation. The results of this study can be used for establishing the water quality improvement measures by the optimal gate operation.

This research was conducted to evaluate tile effects of polluted Suyeong River water on the water quality of Kwangan-Ri bathing beach. The quantity of pollutant loading of Suyeong River was determined in January 1979, and the directions of tidal currents and the chemical constituents of the Suyeong Bay water were observed in May 1979. The results are as follows: The quantity of total pollutant loading which was discharged into Suyeong Bay is: BOD 75.2ton/day; COD 96.9ton/day; SS 20.5ton/day; ammonia-nitrogen 12.4ton/day; nitrate-nitrogen 430kg/day; nitrite-nitrogen 85.1kg/day; phosphate-phosphorus 594kg/day and total heavy metals 3.01ton/day. Considering the tidal current, the polluted waters of Suyeong River flow off the Kwangan-Ri beach during tile ebb tides, and flow into the Kwangan Ri beach during the flood tides. Consequently, the water quality of Kangan-Ri bathing beach is not suitable for bathing.

A prototype surface flow constructed wetland was built in the upstream area of Sihwa reclaimed tidal lands to improve the water quality of Lake Sihwa by treating severely polluted stream water. In this study, we monitored hydrology, macrophyte (Phragmites communis Trin,) growth, and water quality in the Banwol and Donghwa wetlands to evaluate their performance during the initial period after the completion of wetland construction, The average removal efficiency($\%$) in each wetland was relatively low compared with the performance data from the North America Wetland Treatment System Database (NADB), which mainly includes urban sewage-treatment wetlands. However, the average removal rates per unit area ($g/m^{2}/day$) were 0.72, 0.72 and 0.51 (BOD), 2,04, 2.46 and 0.70 (SS), 0.89, 0.43 and 1.09 (TN) and 0.02, 0.02 and 0.02 (TP) in the Banwol and Donghwa wetlands and NADB, respectively. The overall performance of the Banwol and Donghwa wetlands was within the expected range of the wetland system processes contributing the reduction of the pollutant load to Lake Sihwa during the initial period of wetland operation. Considering the low influent concentration, high hydraulic loading rate, and insufficient macrophyte growth since the wetland was constructed, better performance is expected if an improved operational scheme is adopted.

The Mokpo coastal waters receive discharges from three artificial lakes(Youngsan, Youngam, Geumho) and other terrigenous freshwater inflows(streams, sewage treatment effluent, fresh groundwater), which exhibit very high concentrations of nutrients and/or organic matters. To understand spatial distributions of nutrients(DIN, DIP, DSi) and other water quality parameters(Chl-a, water temperature, salinity, DO, COD, SS), field surveys were conducted at 10 stations in the Mokpo harbor and adjacent estuaries on May, July, September, and November 2008 within 10 days following discharge events from artificial lakes. In this study, the freshwater flow rate influxed by the operation of sea dike sluice had significant influence on water qualities of the Mokpo coastal waters, although nutrient concentrations in other freshwater sources such as streams, sewage treatment effluent, and fresh groundwater were much higher. As a result of statistical analysis, DIN, COD, and Chl-a had a negative correlation with salinity. Therefore it was shown that discharge extents, time, and nutrients from the Youngsan lake were major impact factors dominating the spatial characteristics of nutrients and other water quality parameters in the Mokpo harbor and adjacent waters. However, despite non-discharge from the Youngsan Lake on September of this investigated period, it was observed that the nutrient addition was taking place in the lower layer of the estuary suggesting nutrient supply through different pathways. This result has emphasized the need to implement the combined assessment about the cumulative impacts on the Youngsan Estuary environment and ecosystem due to freshwater inputs derived from the artificial lakes as well as other terrigenous inflows, or benthic releases.
Slack-tide sampling was carried out at 6 stations at high and low tide for a tidal cycle during spring tide of the early summer (June) and summer (July, August) of 2016 to determine the difference of water quality according to tide in Masan Bay, Korea. The mixing regime of all the water quality components investigated was well explained through the correlation with SAL. In the early summer and summer, TURB, DSi and NNN which mainly flow into the bay from the streams and SS, COD, AMN and $H_2S$ which mainly indicate the internal sink and source materials have a property of conservative mixing and non-conservative mixing, respectively. The conservative mixing showed a good linear relationship of the water quality between high and low tide, and the non-conservative mixing showed a variation of different pattern each other. Factor analysis performed on the concentration difference data sets between high and low tide helped in identifying the principal latent variables for them. In early summer, multiple effects (tidal action, natural influx and internal sinks and sources etc.) acted in combination for the differences to be distributed evenly in four factors (VF1~4), since there were few allochthonous inputs as a low-water season. On the contrary, in summer, the parameters showing large concentration difference at ST-1 affected by stream water were concentrated in one factor (VF1) and clearly distinguished from the parameters affected by the internal sinks and sources. In fact, there is no estuary (bay) that always maintains steady state flow conditions. The mixing regime of an estuary might be changed at any time due to the change of flushing time, and furthermore the change of end-member conditions due to the internal sinks and sources makes the occurrence of concentration difference inevitable. Therefore, when investigating the water quality of the estuary, it is necessary to take a sampling method considering the tide to obtain average water quality data.
