The study was aimed to investigate the correlation between tidal effects and fog occurrence in Incheon and Mokpo, which are located in the middle and southern coasts of the West Sea of Korea, respectively. The investigation used meteorological data obtained from the automated synoptic observing systems and automatic weather stations and ocean data from tide stations from 2010 to 2019. Fog occurrence frequency was highest at high tide (Incheon, 41%; Mokpo, 45%). During fog event days at high tide, the dew-point depression was low (Incheon, 0.5℃; Mokpo, 0.4℃) and the relative humidity was high (Incheon, 97%; Mokpo, 98%). The wind speed was 2.4 m/s in Incheon and 2.0 m/s in Mokpo, and the main wind directions were west-southwesterly from Incheon and southwesterly from Mokpo. In the fog case study, tidal flats were covered with water before and after the fog started. During the fog period, both stations experienced negative air-sea temperature differences, low dew-point depression, and high relative humidity were maintained, with weak winds forming from the tidal flats to the shore.

We examined the effect of predation by observing the changes in macrobenthic communities in a tidal flat at Seonjae, Korea, following the exclusion of large predators such as birds, fishes and crustaceans using protective screens. We conducted two interference experiments in the field from April to November 2004: (1) Experiment 1 was conducted at a mid-tidal flat in the western part of Seonjae-do, Incheon, Korea, (2) Experiment 2 was set up at a low tidal flat in the eastern part of Seonjae-do. predator exclusion showed different effects in the two experiments. Both the number of species and density were reduced by 20% in Experiment 1. Whereas in Experiment 2, they increased by up to 13% and 69%, respectively. In Experiment 1, a high density of brachyuran crabs observed in the treatment may have caused the difference in community composition between the treatment and the control, and this probably resulted from active predation of macrofauna (e.g., small crabs) under protection from megafaunal predators such as birds and fishes. However, in Experiment 2, as typically observed in other predator exclusion experiments, a lower density of benthic predators and the subsequent reduction of over predation probably resulted in a more diverse and abundant benthic community in the treatment. We confirmed that predation was a contributing factor in the formation of the macrobenthic community. We also demonstrated relationships that exist among different trophic groups (large predators, macrobenthic predators and prey) and what effects and responses occur in each component of the tidal flats.

With the worldwide trend of controlling the utilization of fossil fuels inducing global climate change, many efforts will have to be made on securing a sustainable energy supply. Tidal current is a concentrated form of gravitational energy, its resource is significant, but limited locations. To effectively capture tidal current energy from the sea, a group of tidal turbines should be formed and positioned with optimal size and spacing for absorbing from multiple points. Thus, the flow field including turbines becomes a huge domain, a so-called tidal farm. It can be very convenient technically and economically if a whole turbine farm is simulated by means of actuator disc thoery. So, the analysis method using actuator discs coupled with a solution of Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations is adopted for actual tidal turbines. Actuator discs have regions where similar forces imposed by actual turbines are applied to a flow. As working in group formation, turbines naturally have interaction effects on one another. Therefore, the present paper investigate the evaluation on the operating performance of tidal farm in terms of the mutual influence among turbine units with various lateral and longitudinal spacing. Authors expect that results of the present study contribute to the development of tidal farm for the future potential energy.
This study analyzed the hydraulic effects of Singok submerged weir in the lower Han River. 1-D hydraulic flood routing model was used and calibration and verification were performed using 8 flood or nonflood events. Flow characteristics were analyzed using various outflows of Paldang Dam and tidal data of the Yellow Sea. Water level increase effects by establishment of Singok submerged weir were as following, when maximum flood tidal was 2.4m, highest water level increased about 0.65m, and lowest water level increased about 1.25m in the downstream of Jamsil submerged weir. In Hangang Bridge, due to the Singok submerged weir, when maximum flood tidal was 2.4m, tidal range was 0.07m and decrement of tidal range was about $90\%$. And when maximum flood tidal was 5.5m, tidal range was 1.6m and decrement of tidal range was about $35\%$. When the outflow of Paldang Dam was over 20,000cms, tidal range was below about 0.06m, and tidal effect did not appear hardly.
Chloride induced corrosion is a concern that governs the durability of concrete structures in marine environments, especially in tidal environments. During the service lives of concrete structures, internal cracks in the concrete cover may appear due to imposed loads, accelerating chloride penetration because of the simultaneous action of environmental and service structural loads. This paper investigated the effects of cyclic flexural loads on chloride diffusion characteristics of plain concretes, and proposed a model to predict the chloride penetration into plain concretes subjected to both tidal environments and different cyclic flexural load levels. Further, a new experiment was performed to verify the model. Results of the model using Finite Difference Method (FDM) showed that the durability of concretes in tidal environments was reduced as cyclic flexural load levels, SR, increased, and the modeling results fitted well with the experimental results.
Purpose: This study investigated the effects of chest physiotherapies on intensive care unit patients mechanical ventilated. Methods: Good lung down position, chest percussion, postural drainage was applied to patients who admitted to ICU. Each patients divided into four groups and each group received different treatments. Sputum amount, lung compliance, tidal volume and oxygen saturation were measured before treatment and immediately, and time flowing. Data was analyzed with frequency, percentage, ANOVA and paired t-test using via SPSSWIN 12.0 program. Results: There were significant differences in variables each characteristics of subjects. Chest percussion increased tidal volume, static lung compliance for the mean time. Desaturation related to suction. Conclusion: Chest percussion influences on lung compliance. Based on this study results and limitation, this study suggests repeated studies in various groups
Minor mergers leave behind long lived, but extremely faint and extended tidal features including tails, streams, loops and plumes. These act as a fossil record for the host galaxy's past interactions, allowing us to infer recent accretion histories and place constraints on the properties and nature of a galaxy's dark matter halo. However, shallow imaging or small homogeneous samples of past surveys have resulted in weak observational constraints on the role of galaxy mergers and interactions in galaxy assembly. The Rubin Observatory, which is optimised to deliver fast, wide field-of-view imaging, will enable deep and unbiased observations over the 18,000 square degrees of the Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST), resulting in samples of potentially of millions of objects undergoing tidal interactions. Using realistic mock images produced with state-of-the-art cosmological simulations we perform a comprehensive theoretical investigation of the extended diffuse light around galaxies and galaxy groups down to low stellar mass densities. We consider the nature, frequency and visibility of tidal features and debris across a range of environments and stellar masses as well as their reliability as an indicator of galaxy accretion histories. We consider how observational biases such as projection effects, the point-spread-function and survey depth may effect the proper characterisation and measurement of tidal features, finding that LSST will be capable of recovering much of the flux found in the outskirts of L* galaxies at redshifts beyond local volume. In our simulated sample, tidal features are ubiquitous In L* galaxies and remain common even at significantly lower masses (M*>10^10 Msun). The fraction of stellar mass found in tidal features increases towards higher masses, rising to 5-10% for the most massive objects in our sample (M*~10^11.5 Msun). Such objects frequently exhibit many distinct tidal features often with complex morphologies, becoming increasingly numerous with increased depth. The interpretation and characterisation of such features can vary significantly with orientation and imaging depth. Our findings demonstrate the importance of accounting for the biases that arise from projection effects and surface-brightness limits and suggest that, even after the LSST is complete, much of the discovery space in low surface-brightness Universe will remain to be explored.
We present N-body simulations of globular clusters including gravitational field of the Galaxy, in order to study effects of tidal field systematically on the shape of outer parts of globular clusters using NBODY6. The Galaxy is assumed to be composed of central bulge and outer halo. We mvestigate the cluster of multi-mass models with a power-law initial mass function (IMF) starting with different initial masses, initial number of particles, different slopes of the IMF and different orbits of the cluster. We have examined the general evolution of the clusters, the shape of outer parts of the clusters, density profiles and the direction of tidal tails. The density profiles appear to become somewhat shallower just outside the tidal boundary consistent with some observed data. The position angle of the tidal tall depends on the location in the Galaxy as well as the direction of the motion of. clusters. We found that the clusters become more elongated at the apogalacticon than at the pengalacticon. The tidal tails may be used to trace the orbital paths of globular clusters.
Several field surveys were conducted to investigate changes of water quality with time in a tidal river. Results indicated that nitrification process were dependent on the change of salinity and suspended solids concenttration. Therefore laboratory batch experiments were conducted, using suspended solids and sediment taken from a tidal river, to study the effect of salinity on nitrification and to estimate kinetic parameters of it in the tidal river. suspended solids and sediment were sampled at a point in the middle stream. Sediments were collect from the aerobic layer of mud. The change of nitrogen concentration with time was clearly explained with Monod groth model and kinetic parameters were obtained by curve fitting method. Changes in NH4-N, NO2-N, and NO3-N concentrations in the river ROKKAU with time were simulated well using Lagrangian reference frame and parameter values obtained in the laboratory tests. T도 mechanism of nitrification by suspended solids and sediment in a tidal river is shown to depend on tidal effects.
Tidal propagation in the Keum River has been routinely handled by numerical integration of the long fravity wave equation by Dronkers. The dynamic equations include non-linear terms thereby reproducing the shallow water tides. The model was used to compute tidal distribution of the Kum River for aveage spring, mean, neap tidal conditions and further utilised to investigate the waterlevel response within tidal reaches by combined tide and flood discharge effects. The objective of this initial study is to investigate the tidal dynamics of the lower reaches of the Keum River under the condition of before-cross-channel barrage construction.
