  • HCl concentration, reaction temperature, and $Ti^{4+}$ concentration are the decisive factors in determining the structure of precipitates in the process of synthesis of $TiO_2$ particles from aqueous $TiCl_4$ solution by precipitation and the volumetric proportion of brookite phase in $TiO_2$ particles can be controlled by these factors. Pure brookite-type $TiO_2$ nanoparticles were synthesized by heating the aqueous $TiCl_4$ solution with no more than 1.0 M of $Ti^{4+}$, in which the concentration of HCl was kept in the range of about 2.53~6.41 M during reaction, at the temperature below $70^{\circ}C$ for 20 h. Also, Pure brookite was finally transformed to a rutile phase via an anatase phase through heat-treatment.

  • $BaTiO_3$ is typical ferromagnetic materials with dielectric constant of above 200. $BaTiO_3$ nanoparticles applications are available for multiple purposes such as nanocapacitors, ferroelectric random access memories, and so on. Applications are is diverse from the dispersion of nanoparticles depending on the route of synthesis. In this study, $BaTiO_3$ nanoparticles were synthesized by two different methods such as oxalate method and sol-gel process (ambient condition sol method). Particle size and dispersion condition were studied according to the preparation method and capping agent. Poly vinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) was used as a capping agent in oxalate method and tetrabutylammonium hydroxide (TBAH) used as a capping agent in sol-gel process each. Cubic crystal structure of $BaTiO_3$ phase could be confirmed by X-ray diffraction analysis. Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy was employed for the confirmation of the capping agent and $BaTiO_3$ nanoparticles. The particle size and distribution analysis was also performed by particles size analyzer and scanning electron microscope.

  • We report highly efficient quantum dot light-emitting diodes (QLEDs) with TiO2 nanoparticles (NPs) as an alternative electron transport layer (ETL) and poly (methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) as an insulating layer. TiO2 NPs were applied as ETLs of inverted structured QLEDs and the effect of the addition of PMMA between ETL and emission layer (EML) on device characteristics was studied in detail. A thin PMMA layer supported to make the charge balance in the EML of QLEDs due to its insulating property, which limits electron injection effectively. Green QLEDs with a PMMA layer produced the maximum luminance of 112,488 cd/m2 and a current efficiency of 25.92 cd/A. We expect the extended application of TiO2 NPs as the electron transport layer in inverted structured QLEDs device in the near future.

  • The silica nanoparticles were used as support of catalyst, filling material, electronic assembler, thin film material, and sensor material. And, the titania nanoparticles were used as pigment, dielectric substance, sensor and photocatalyst. In this paper, the spherical composite particles of $TiO_2/SiO_2$with narrow size distribution and phase pure were synthesized by ultrasonic spray pyrolysis method from $TiOSO_4$ and colloidal silica solution. Using ultrasonic apparatus, this starting solution was vaporized to droplets, and these droplets were induced into tube furnace by carrier gas. The resulting composite powder was characterized by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction analysis, TG-DTA, in vitro sun protection factor(SPF) and BET surface area analysis.

  • The effect of substrate on catalytic activity of CO oxidation with transition metal Platinum nanoparticles on doped and undoped TiO2 was investigated. Titanium dioxide was doped chemically with non-metal anions including nitrogen and fluorine. Undoped TiO2 was synthesized via simple conventional sol-gel route. Thin films of titania were developed by spin coating technique and the characterization techniques SEM, XRD, UV-Vis Absorption Spectroscopy and XPS were carried out to examine the morphology of films, crystal phase, crystallites, optical properties and elemental composition respectively. XPS analysis from doped TiO2 confirmed that the nitrogen site were interstitial whereas fluorine was doped into TiO2 lattice substitutionally. Catalytic activity systems of Pt/doped-TiO2 and Pt/undoped-TiO2 were fabricated to reveal the strong metal-support interaction effect during catalytic activity of CO oxidation reactions. By arc plasma deposition technique, platinum nanoparticles with mean size of 2.7 nm were deposited on the thin films of doped and undoped titanium dioxide. The CO oxidation was performed with 40 Torr CO and 100 Torr O2 with 620 Torr He carrier gas. Turn over frequency was observed two to three folds enhancement in case of Pt/doped TiO2 as compared to Pt/TiO2. The electronic excitation and the oxygen vacancies that were formed with the doping process were the plausible reasons for the enhancement of catalytic activity.

  • Quantum-structures with nanoparticles have been attractive for various electronic and photonic devices [1,2]. In recent, nonvolatile memories such as nano-floating gate memory (NFGM) and resistance random access memory (ReRAM) have been studied using silicides, metals, and metal oxides nanoparticles [3,4]. In this study, we fabricated nonvolatile memories with silicides (WSi2, Ti2Si, V2Si) and metal-oxide (Cu2O, Fe2O3, ZnO, SnO2, In2O3 and etc.) nanoparticles embedded in polyimide matrix, and photovoltaic device also with SiC nanoparticles. The capacitance-voltageand current-voltage data showed a threshold voltage shift as a function of write/erase voltage, which implies the carrier charging and discharging into the metal-oxide nanoparticles. We have investigated also the electrical properties of ReRAM consisted with the nanoparticles embedded in ZnO, SiO2, polyimide layer on the monolayered graphene. We will discuss what the current bistability of the nanoparticle ReRAM with monolayered graphene, which occurred as a result of fully functional operation of the nonvolatile memory device. A photovoltaic device structure with nanoparticles was fabricated and its optical properties were also studied by photoluminescence and UV-Vis absorption measurements. We will discuss a feasibility of nanoparticles to application of nonvolatile memories and photovoltaic devices.

  • Mesoporous $TiO_2$ granules were prepared by spray pyrolysis using nano-sized titania particles which were synthesized by a hydrothermal method, and they were evaluated as the photoanode of dye-sensitized solar cells. To enhance the cell efficiency, nanoparticles within granules were chemically interconnected by adding titanium ethoxide (TEOT) to colloidal spray solution. The resulting titania particles had anatase phase without forming rutile. $TiO_2$ granules obtained showed about 400 nm in size, the specific surface area of $74-77m^2/g$, and average pore size of 13-17 nm. The chemical modification of $TiO_2$ granules by adding TEOT initially to the colloidal spray solution was proved to be an effective way in terms of increasing both the light scattering within photoanode and the lifetimes of photo-excited electrons. Consequently, the light-harvesting efficiency of TEOT-modified granules (${\eta}=6.72%$) was enhanced about 14% higher than primitive nanoparticles.

  • Quantitative evaluation of photocatalytic activity of oxide nanoparticles in aqueous solution is quite challenging in that the kinetic reaction rate is determined by a complicated interplay among various limiting factors such as light scattering and absorption, diffusion and adsorption of reactants in condensed liquid phase, photoexcited charge separation and recombination rate, and the exact nature of active sites determined by detailed morphology and crystallinity of nanocrystals. Here, we present our simple experimental results showing that the kinetic regime of a typical photocatalytic degradation experiment over UV-irradiated $TiO_2$ nanoparticles in aqueous solution is in that dominated by the photoactivity of $TiO_2$ and its concentration. This result lays a firm ground of using the measured kinetic reaction rate in evaluating photocatalytic efficiency of oxide nanocrystals under evaluation.

  • Nanostructures consisting of $TiO_2$ particles as a core and carbon as a shell ($TiO_2$@C) were prepared by heat treatment of $TiO_2$ nanoparticles at high temperature in a methane atmosphere. X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy showed that a carbon shell layer was formed well. These structures were used as supports for platinum nanoparticles and the hybrid particles exhibit improved catalytic activity and stability toward ORR compared to Pt on a carbon black (Vulcan XC-72R). It is likely that enhanced catalytic properties of the Pt on $TiO_2$@C could be due to the stability of the core-shell support in comparison with carbon black support.
