SCM415 강의 코팅특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Coating Characteristics of SCM415 Steel)

  • The purpose of this study is to show the friction and wear characteristics on the vapor deposited coating layers on the SCM415 steel. In this research, frictional wear characteristic of coating materials such as Ti-series, Cr-series & WC/C and TiAlN+WC/C multilayer coating was investigated under room temperature, normal air pressure and no lubricating condition. Therefore, this study carried out research on the friction coefficient, micro hardness(Hv), surface roughness and wear quantity on the vapor deposited coating layers on the SCM415 steel. As the wear experimental result, the excellence of TiAlN+WC/C multilayer coating has been proven by high micro-hardness, low friction coefficient and wear quantity.

  • TiN and CrN thin films are among the most used coatings in machine and tool steels. TiN and CrN are deposited by arc ion plating(AIP) method. The AIP method inhibits the reaction by depositing a hard, protective coating on the material surface. In this study, the characteristics of multi-layer(TiN/CrN/TiN(TCT), CrN/TiN/CrN(CTC)) are investigated. For comparison, TiN with the same thickness as the multilayer is formed as a single layer and analyzed. Thin films formed as multilayers are well stacked. The characteristics of micro hardness and corrosion resistance are better than those of single layer TiN. The TiN/CrN peak is confirmed because both TCT and CTC are formed of the same component(TiN, CrN), and the phase is first grown in the (111) direction, which is the growth direction. However, the adhesion and abrasion resistance of the multilayer films are somewhat lower.

  • TiAlN coatings are available in various industry fields as a wear resistant coating for high-speed machining, due to its high hardness, excellent oxidation and corrosion resistance. The corrosion resistance of TiAlN multilayer coatings is better than that of single TiN coatings. Most of TiAlN coated layers were formed by heat treatment of coating layers with a non-stoichiometric $Ti_xAl_{1-x}N$. In this study, TiAlN coated layer was prepared by R.F magnetron sputtering and investigated the thermal behavior for heat treatment at various temperature in tube furnace. The formation of large particles with porous microstructure and phase change from HCP to FCC were observed on coated layer during heat treatment over $850^{\circ}C$ and it reduced the corrosion resistance of coated TiAlN layers.

  • Titanium nitride and related overlayers produced by arc ion plating (AIP) are applied as commercial coatings in world-wide scale since the middle of 80s. Due to the achievements of low temperature deposition (LTD), they begin now to be used as wear and corrosion-resistant coatings for machine parts, besides applications on cemented carbide and high speed steel cutting tools. On the other side, TiN can be now applied successfully to brass, Al-alloy, ZnAl alloy articles as decorative coating through LTD. Various nitrides, carbonitrides, borides and other refractory compounds, such as (Ti, Al)N, TiCN, CrN, are used as the coatings for special heavy-duty working conditions instead of TiN since 90s. More and more multilayer coatings are applied now substituting single layer ones. Duplex processes are under development.

  • In this study, in order to fabricate sintered dental implant, the effects of HA, Ti and TiN on corrosion and biocompatibility, cell toxicity, osseointegration of electroless Cu-plated and sintered stainless steel implant were investigated using various characteristics. The effects of Ti/TiN/HA coating on the interface activation and surface characteristics of sintered stainless steels(SSS) by electron-beam physical vapor deposition(EB-PVD) method have been studied. Stainless steel compacts containing 2, 4, and 10 wt%Cu were prepared by electroless Cu-plating method which results in the increased homogenization in alloying powder. The specimens were coated with HA, Ti and TiN with few $\mu\textrm{m}$ thickness respectively by EB-PVD method. The microstructures and phase analysis were conducted by using SEM. Biocompatibility were investigated in experimental dog. The corrosion behaviors were investigated using potentiosat in 0.9% NaCl solution and corrosion surface was observed using SEM and XPS.

TiN/Ti 다층막 코팅된 생체용 Ti-30Ta-xZr 합금의 부식특성 (Corrosion Characteristics of TiN/Ti Multilayer Coated Ti-30Ta-xZr Alloy for Biomaterials)

  • Pure titanium and its alloys are drastically used in implant materials due to their excellent mechanical properties, high corrosion resistance and good biocompatibility. However, the widely used Ti-6Al-4V is found to release toxic ions (Al and V) into the body, leading to undesirable long-term effects. Ti-6Al-4V has much higher elastic modulus than cortical bone. Therefore, titanium alloys with low elastic modulus have been developed as biomaterials to minimize stress shielding. For this reason, Ti-30Ta-xZr alloy systems have been studied in this study. The Ti-30Ta containing Zr(5, 10 and 15 wt%) were 10 times melted to improve chemical homogeneity by using a vacuum furnace and then homogenized for 24 hrs at $1000^{\circ}C$. The specimens were cut and polished for corrosion test and Ti coating and then coated with TiN, respectively, by using DC magnetron sputtering method. The analyses of coated surface were carried out by field emission scanning electron microscope(FE-SEM). The electrochemical characteristics were examined using potentiodynamic (- 1500 mV~+ 2000 mV) and AC impedance spectroscopy(100 kHz~10 mHz) in 0.9% NaCl solution at $36.5{\pm}1^{\circ}C$. The equiaxed structure was changed to needle-like structure with increasing Zr content. The surface defects and structures were covered with TiN/Ti coated layer. From the polarization behavior in 0.9% NaCl solution, The corrosion current density of Ti-30Ta-xZr alloys decreased as Zr content increased, whereas, the corrosion potential of Ti-30Ta-xZr alloys increased as Zr content increased. The corrosion resistance of TiN/Ti-coated Ti-30Ta-xZr alloys were higher than that of the TiN-coated Ti-30Ta-xZr alloys. From the AC impedance in 0.9% NaCl solution, polarization resistance($R_p$) value of TiN/Ti coated Ti-30Ta-xZr alloys showed higher than that of TiN-coated Ti-30Ta-xZr alloys.

EFFECTS OF SURFACE ROUGHNESS AND MULTILAYER COATING ON THE CORROSION RESISTANCE OF Ti-6Al-4V ALLOY

  • The dental implant materials required good mechanical properties, such as fatigue strength, combined with a high resistance to corrosion. For increasing fatigue resistance and delaying onset of stress corrosion cracking, shot peening has been used for > 50 years to extend service life of metal components. However, there is no information on the electrochemical behavior of shot peened and hydroxyapatite(HA) coated Ti-6Al-4V alloys. To increase fatigue strength, good corrosion resistance, and biocompatibility, the electrochemical characteristics of Ti/TiN/HA coated and shot peened Ti-6Al-4V alloys by electron beam physical vapor deposition(EB-PVD) have been researched by various electrochemical method in 0.9%NaCl. Ti-6Al-4V alloys were prepared under the condition of hydrogen and vacuum arc furnace. The produced materials were quenched at 1000$^{\circ}C$ under high purity dried Ar atmosphere and were hold at 500$^{\circ}C$ for 2 hrs to achieve the fatigue strength(1140㎫) of materials. Ti-6Al-4V alloys were prepared under the condition of hydrogen and vacuum arc furnace. Shot peening(SP) and sand blasting treatment was carried out for 1, 5, and 10min. On the surface of Ti-6Al-4V alloys using the steel balls of 0.5mm and alumina sand of 40$\mu\textrm{m}$ size. Ti/TiN/HA multilayer coatings were carried out by using electron-beam deposition method(EB-PVD) as shown Fig. 1. Bulk Ti, powder TiN and hydroxyapatite were used as the source of the deposition materials. Electrons were accelerated by high voltage of 4.2kV with 80 - 120mA on the deposition materials at 350$^{\circ}C$ in 2.0 X 10-6 torr vacuum. Ti/TiN/HA multilayer coated surfaces and layers were investigated by SEM and XRD. A saturated calomel electrode as a reference electrode, and high density carbon electrode as a counter electrode, were set according to ASTM GS-87. The potentials were controlled at a scan rate of 100 mV/min. by a potentiostat (EG&G Co.273A) connected to a computer system. Electrochemical tests were used to investigate the electrochemical characteristics of Ti/TiN/HA coated and shot peened materials in 0.9% NaCl solution at 36.5$^{\circ}C$. After each electrochemical measurement, the corrosion surface of each sample was investigated by SEM.

Statistical characterisation of end milling of AISI 52100 annealed bearing steel

  • The present paper is a contribution in characterising end milling process of AISI 52100 ball bearing steel through statistical analyses of variance (ANOVA). The latter has been performed to identify the effect of the cutting parameters on the machined surface roughness and the cutting tool life. Wear measurements have been carried on multilayer coated carbide inserts and the respective surface roughness has been recorded. Taguchi's technique has been adapted to conduct the design experiments in terms of orthogonal arrays according to the cutting parameters (cutting speed, feed rate and depth of cut), the type of coating (TiN, TiCN, TiAlN) and lubricating condition. Regression analyses have conducted to the development of simplified empirical models that can be effectively used to predict surface roughness and tool wear in the present milling process.

TiO2/SiO2 다층 박막 평판 mirror의 광학적 반사 (Optical reflectance of TiO2/SiO2 multilayer coating flat mirrors)

  • 파장범위 620~820nm에서 반사가 큰 $TiO_2/SiO_2$ 33층 박박 mirror를 설계하고 전자 빔 증착 방법으로 제작하였다. 다층박막은 BK7 유리 기판에 연속적으로 증착하였다. 고반사박막 설계는 중심파장 ${\lambda}_0$ 주변에 stopband가 만들어지는 것과 같은, 고굴절률을 가지는 층($n_H$)과 저굴절률을 가지는 층($n_L$)을 반복해서 하였다. 입사각 $40^{\circ}{\pm}7^{\circ}$인 투과도 측정 스펙트럼에서 전체적으로 파장범위 620~820nm에서 99.9%의 반사를 보였다. 파장이 700~740nm에서 투과도가 큰 피크를 보였다.

HSS엔드밀의 PVD코팅 및 성능평가 (The Evaluation of PVD Coated HSS Endmill)

  • To enhance the cutting performance of high speed steel(HSS) endmill, single and multilayer coating is applied on the substrated of the HSS endmill. Coating material reduces cutting force and enhances resistance against abrasive wear. This paper presents the physical vapour deposition(PVD) coating technology and evaluate the PVD coated HSS endmill. The performance of coated HSS endmills are fifteen times better than uncoated HSS endmill on proposed cutting conditions. The TiAlN monolayer coated endmills(futura nano coating) are better than those of multilayer coated endmills(futura coating) on machined surface and tool wear.
