원심주조법에 의한 TiAl 합금의 제조 및 미세구조 분석 (Fabrication of TiAl alloy by centrifugal casting and its microstructure)

  • 본 연구에서는 자동차 터보차저(turbo charger)용 터빈휠을 제조하기 위하여 고속원심주조법을 이용하여 TiAl 합금을 주조하였다. 여러 가지 조성의 주형을 사용하여 주조결함이 최소화 되는 최적의 몰드 조건을 찾고자 하였으며, 주조된 TiAl 합금의 결정구조와 미세조직을 고찰하였다. TiAl 샘플의 XRD 분석 결과 ${\gamma}$-TiAl 상과 ${\alpha}_2-Ti_3Al$ 상으로 구성되어 있음을 확인하였으며, 광학현미경과 FE-SEM 분석을 통하여 TiAl 샘플은 6-fold 및 4-fold 대칭성으로 이루어진 두 개의 수지상(dendrite) 형태로 이루어져 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 또한 샘플의 단면에서 표면과 가까운 지점과 내부에서 측정한 원소함량의 차이를 확인할 수 있었으며, 마이크로비커스 경도계를 이용하여 표면에서 $50{\mu}m$ 미만의 영역에서 경도상승 영역 alpha-case 층이 형성되었음을 확인하였다.

Ni/MH 2차전지용 Fe-Ti계 전극 제조공정에 대한 연구 (A Study on the Manufacturing Process of Fe-Ti Type Electrode for Ni/MH Secondary Battery)

  • 실용적인 Fe-Ti계 수소저장합금전극을 제조하기위한 적절한 공정을 확립하기위하여 다섯가지의 서로다른 제조공정을 선택하여 조사하여 보았다. 전극제조를 위해 먼저 FeTi 합금을 플라즈마 아크 용해로에서 용해제조한 후 분쇄하여 분말을 만들고 이를 성형하였다. 성형전에 합금분말을 Ni무전해도금하여 본 결과 Fe-Ti 합금의 방전특성이 개선되었으며 열처리효과에 대하여도 검토하여 보았다. 성형전 합금분말을 열처리하는 경우 열처리 온도가 증가함에 따라 전극의 방전용량이 증가함을 확인하였으며 특히 성형후 $100^{\circ}C$의 온도에서 열처리하는 경우 가장 좋은 결과를 얻을 수 있었다. 이들 결과로 부터, Ni무전해도금과 열처리가 Fe-Ti 계 전극의 방전성능을 향상시키는데 결정적인 역할을 함을 알 수 있었다. 또한, 본 연구에서 제안된 공정에 따라서 Mn을 첨가하여 Fe-Ti-Mn 전극을 제조하고 그 성능을 조사하여 본 결과 대단히 바람직한 결과를 얻었다.

순수 타이타늄 기반 산화물분산강화 합금의 미세조직 및 기계적 특성 (Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Oxide Dispersion Strengthened alloy Based on Commercially Pure Titanium)

  • This study is conducted as a preliminary research to verify the feasibility of Ti-based Oxide dispersion strengthened (ODS) alloy. Pure-Ti powder is mixed with $Y_2O_3$ powder and subsequently, mechanically alloyed at $-150^{\circ}C$. The Ti-based ODS powder is hot-isostatically pressed and subsequently hot-rolled for recrystallization. The microstructure consists of elongated grains and Y excess fine particles. The oxide particle size is larger than that of the typical Fe-based ODS steel. Tensile test shows that the tensile ductility is approximately 25%, while the strength is significantly higher than that of pure Ti. The high-temperature hardness of the Ti-ODS alloy is also significantly higher than that of pure Ti at all temperatures, while being lower than that of Ti-6Al-4V. The dimple structure is well developed, and no evidence of cleavage fracture surface is observed in the fracture surface of the tensile specimen.

Low-cycle Fatigue Performances of P/M Ti-Fe-Mo-Al-Nd Alloy

  • The low-cycle fatigue performance and fracture of the P/M Ti-Fe-Mo-Al-Nd Alloys after sintering and forging have been studied. The linear regression equation of low-cycle fatigue lifetime has been obtained; the fatigue performances are objected under two different conditions. The fatigue fracture surface is analyzed by SEM. The low-cycle fatigue behavior of the P/M titanium alloy has been discussed.

전자빔 진공증착기를 이용한 muffler재료의 표면코팅과 내식특성 (Corrosion Behavior and Surface Coating of Muffler Materials by Using EB-PVD)

  • Fe-Cr-Al alloy has been studied for application in automobile muffler materials due to good corrosion and oxidation resistance. In order to develop the automobile muffler materials, corrosion behaviors of electron beam physical vapor deposition (EB-PVD) coated surface of muffler matericls of muffler materials were investigated using potentiostat. For 0.1M NaCl solution, corrosion potential and pitting potential of Fe-20Cr-10Al was higher than that of Fe-5Cr- 10Al samples. Especially, in the case of Ti and Nb coated samples, pitting potential increased remarkably compared with non-coated samples. For 0.1M $CaCl_2$ solution, Ti-coated Fe-20Cr-10Al showed remarkably improved pitting corrosion resistance in comparison with non-coated Fe-20Cr-10Al and Fe-5Cr-10Al. The number and size of pits were decreased in the case of Ti coated samples in the 0.1M NaCl and 0.1M $CaCl_2$ solution.

  • The effect of consolidation temperature on the microstructure, density and mechanical properties (especially, wear property) of $Al_{92.5}-Fe_{2.5}-Cr_{2.5}-Ti_{2.5}$ alloy fabricated by gas atomization and magnetic pulsed compaction was investigated. All consolidated alloys consisted of homogeneously distributed fine-grained fcc-Al matrix and intermetallic compounds. Relative higher mechanical properties in the MPCed specimen were attributed to the retention of the nanostructure in consolidated bulk without cracks. The as consolidated bulk by magnetic pulsed compaction showed the enhanced wear properties than that of a general consolidation process. In addition, the wear mechanism and fracture mode of MPCed bulk was discussed.

  • Hot-forging Process and die design was made for a large-scale compressor wheel of Ti-6Al-4V alloy with 2-D FE analysis. The design integrated the geometry-controlled approach and dynamic materials modelling(DMM). In order to obtain the processing contour map of Ti-6Al-4V alloy based on DMM, compression tests were carried out in the temperature range of 915$^{\circ}C$ to 1015$^{\circ}C$ and the strain range of 10$\^$-3/s$\^$-1/ to 10s$\^$-1/. In the die design of the compressor wheel using the rigid-plastic FE analysis, forging dimensional accuracy, the capacity of the forging machine and defect-free forging were considered as main design factors. The microstructure of hot forged wheel using the designed die showed a typical alpha-beta structure without forging-defects.

Zr-based 합금을 이용한 hydride heat pump의 작동 특성에 관한 연구 (Study on the Characteristics of Hydride Heat Pump Using the Zr-based Laves Phase Alloys)

  • In order to improve the power of hydride heat pump, prototype heat pump was constructed using $Zr_{0.95}Ti_{0.05}Cr_{0.9}Fe_{1.1}$-$Zr_{0.9}Ti_{0.1}Cr_{0.6}Fe_{1.4}$ which had very good hydrogenation properties. The power changed with operating parameter such as cycle time, air flow rate, and temperature of hot air was investigated. The power shows maximum value with cycle time. The power increased with air flow rate and temperature of hot air. The power of the heat pump was $65-72 Kcal/Kg-alloy{\cdot}h$ under optimum operating condition, which was superior to that the system using $LaNi_{0.9}Al_{0.3}-MmNi_{4.15}Al_{0.66}Fe_{0.2}$ alloy pairs.

  • The profile ring rolling process of Ti-6Al-4V alloy was investigated by finite element(FE) simulation and experimental analysis. The process design of the profile ring rolling includes geometry design and optimization of process variables. The geometry design such as initial billet and blank sizes, and final rolled ring shape was carried out with the calculation method based on the uniform deformation concept between the wall thickness and ring height. FEM simulation was used to calculate the state variables such as strain, strain rate and temperature and to predict the formation of forming defects during ring rolling process. Finally, the mechanical properties of profiled Ti-6Al-4V alloy ring product were analyzed with the evolution of microstructures during the ring rolling process.

Effect of EB-PVD Coated Si/HA Film Thickness on Surface Characteristics of Ti-35Nb-10Zr Alloy

  • In this study, effect of EB-PVD coated Si/HA film thickness on surface characteristics of Ti-35Nb-10Zr alloy was investigated. The Ti-35Nb-10Zr alloy was fabricated by arc melting method. The Si/HA layers were coated with 0.8 wt.% of Si in pure HA by EB-PVD method. The coating thickness was consisted with 100 - 300 nm for each group, the surface characteristics was analyzed by FE-SEM, EDS, XRD, XRF and corrosion test. The Si/HA coating layer was well deposited on the alloy surface by EB-PVD, the thickness was correlative factor with HA peaks and corrosion resistance value.
