A good fluidity of high strength Al-alloys is required to cast thin wall castings needed to reduce the weight of cast parts. The fluidity, measured as the length to which the metal flows in a standard channel, is affected by many factors, such as the pouring temperature, solidification type of the alloy, the channel thickness, melt head, mold materials and temperature, coating etc. Therefore the experimentally measured fluidity scatters very much and makes it difficult to estimate the fluidity of a melt with a few measurements. The effect of Ti content and grain refinement on the fluidity of high strength aluminum alloy was investigated with a test casting with 8 thin flow channels to reduce the scattering of the fluidity results. The fluidity of Al-4.8%Cu-0.6%Mn Al-6.2%Zn-1.6%Mg-1.0%Cu and well-known commercial aluminum alloy, A356 was tested. Initial content of Ti was varied from 0 to 0.2wt% and Al-5Ti-B master alloy was added for grain refinement. The flow length varied linearly with superheat. By adding Ti and Al-5Ti-B, the fluidity increased. The grain size decreased by adding grain refiner at the same time. The fluidity depended on the degree of grain refinement. The fluidity of the alloy solidifying in mushy type is improved by grain refinement, because grain refinement increases the solid fraction at the time of flow stoppage.

Ti-6Al-4V alloy has been widely used for aerospace and power generation applications because of low density and attractive mechanical and corrosion resistant properties. However, the titanium alloy bolt is generally manufactured by cutting and rolling because of their poor workability. In order to achieve the mass production of titanium alloy bolts, it needs to be solved some manufacturing problems such as the sticking between workpiece and dies, the formation of the forming defects during the forging and so on. In this study, the manufacturing technology of titanium alloy bolts using warm forging process was introduced. The aim of present work is to develop a warm forging technology for high strength Ti-6Al-4V bolts.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate of Zirconium Nitride (ZrN) coating on shear bond strength with denture base resin in Co-Cr and Ti-6Al-4V alloy. Materials and Methods: Co-Cr and Ti-6Al-4V alloy disks (10 mm in diameter, 2.5 mm in thickness; each other: n = 14) were prepared and divided with 2 groups each other by ZrN coating. After primer was applied to disks surface, denture base resin with diameter 6 mm, height 5 mm was bonded on metal disk surface. After surface roughness was measured by Profiler, shear bond strength was determined with Universal testing machine and analyzed with two-way ANOVA. The specimen surfaces and failure mode were examined using a scanning electron microscope. Results: ZrN coated groups showed significantly higher rough surface than non-coated groups (P < 0.05). Irrespective of alloy materials, shear bond strength of ZrN coated groups were lower than non-coated groups (P < 0.001). The scanning electron microscope (SEM) of ZrN coated groups showed mixed and adhesive fractures. Conclusion: ZrN coating weakened bonding strength between denture base resin and Co-Cr, Ti-6Al-4V alloy.

Alloys of Ti-15Mo-5Zr-3Al(wt%) were oxidized in air between 700 and $900^{\circ}C$. It was found that the oxidation resistance is much better than that of either commercially available pure Ti-6Al-4V(wt%) alloys. The oxide scales were primarily composed of thick Ti-ox-ides which were formed by the inward diffusion of oxygen from the atmosphere. At higher temperatures a thin $\alpha$-$Al_2O_3$ layer was formed on Ti-oxides owing to the outward diffusion of Al from the base alloys. Molybdenum, the noblest metal among the alloy components, was predominantly present behind the oxide-substrate interface. Zirconium, an oxygen active metal, was present at both the oxide layer and the substrate.
This paper presents a study on the hydrogen embrittlement of Ti-6Al-4V alloys with different microstructures depending on annealing treatment. They were electrochemically charged with hydrogen and subjected to tensile tests to investigate hydrogen embrittlement behavior. Tensile test results showed that the elongation of Ti-6Al-4V alloy specimens was remarkably decreased with increasing the volume fraction of β phase after hydrogen charging. This is because the β phase with a relatively low diffusivity tends to easily form a hydride at grain boundaries during electrochemical hydrogen charging. After hydrogen charging of the Ti-6Al-4V alloy specimen, it found that silver particles were decorated mostly at the grain boundary, and coarser silver particles were usually formed in the specimen annealed at 950 ℃. Therefore, the specimen having higher β phase fraction shows a poor hydrogen embrittlement resistance because the β phase promotes the formation of coarse hydride during electrochemical hydrogen charging, which leads to a large decrease in ductility.

In the present work, Inconel 718 alloy is additively manufactured on the Ti-6Al-4V alloy, and a functionally graded material is built between Inconel 718 and Ti-6Al-4V alloys. The vanadium interlayer is applied to prevent the formation of detrimental intermetallic compounds between Ti-6Al-4V and Inconel 718 by direct joining. The additive manufacturing of Inconel 718 alloy is performed by changing the laser power and scan speed. The microstructures of the joint interface are characterized by scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and micro X-ray diffraction. Additive manufacturing is successfully performed by changing the energy input. The micro Vickers hardness of the additive manufactured Inconel 718 dramatically increased owing to the presence of the Cr-oxide phase, which is formed by the difference in energy input.
Resistances to pitting corrosion of additive manufactured (AM) Ti-6Al-4V alloys in 0.6 M NaBr and 0.6 M NaCl aqueous solutions were compared using micro-droplet cell techniques. With respect to the pitting corrosion resistance, this study focused on two different types of halide anions in aqueous solutions, i.e. $Br^-$ and $Cl^-$. The differences between $Br^-$ and $Cl^-$ halide anions for breakdown on passive films of AM Ti-6Al-4V alloy were explained using Langmuir adsorption model with their equilibrium adsorption coefficients. The results of the analysis showed that the lower resistance to pitting potential of AM Ti-6Al-4V alloy in $Br^-$ aqueous solution was attributed to the higher equilibrium adsorption coefficient of Br-. In addition, micro-electrochemical test results showed that the pitting corrosion resistance of dark grains in additive manufactured Ti-6Al-4V alloy was lower as compared to that of bright grains due to the larger volume of ${\alpha}^{\prime}$ phase that caused the susceptibility to pit initiation.
The Ti-6Al-4V alloys were prepared by recycling of dental Ti pure scraps using vacuum arc melting process, and their physical properties were evaluated the Ti-6Al-4V alloys with different oxygen concentrations. For the preparation of Ti-6Al-4V alloys, Ti pure scraps used for dental implant were utilized as a raw material, and their different oxygen concentrations were ranged from G1 to G4 grade in ASTM standards. It was confirmed that the weight loss of Al in the composition of Ti-6Al-4V alloy could be controlled under the Ar pressure of 875 torr during the melting of alloy. The oxygen concentrations of the Ti-6Al-4V alloys were ranged from 1170 to 3340 ppm. The vickers hardness change of the Ti-6Al-4V alloys showed a similar behavior with that of pure Ti. As a result, we confirmed a possibility of preparation of Ti-6Al-4V alloy by recycling of dental Ti scraps using vacuum arc melting process in this study.
Mechanical properties of nanocrystalline Al-5at.%Ti alloy were investigated through high temperature compression test. Al-5at.%Ti nanocrystalline metal powders, which had finer and more equiaxed shape than those produced at room temperature, were produced by mechanical alloying at low temperature. The powders were successfully consolidated to 99fo of theoretical density by vacuum hot pressing. XRD and TEM analysis revealed that $Al_3Ti$ intermetallic compounds formed inside powders and pure Al region with coarse grains formed between powders, especially at triple junction. Mechanical properties in terms of hardness and strength were improved by grain size refinement, but ductility decreased presumably due to the formation of the weak interfaces between Al pool and powders.
