Cosmetic industries have recently developed sun-block products, which are composed of W/O or O/W emulsion system. It was very difficult for waterproofing product to show the stability in W/O emulsion with $TiO_{2}$. To enhance the stability of W/O emulsion, it needs to be combined with the water and oil soluble components as the gelling agents. The emulsifiers used in W/O were 3.0% of cetyl dimethicone copolyol, 2.0% of sorbitan sesquioleate as the basic emulsifiers, and 0.6% of quaternium-18 bentonite and 1.5% of dextrin palmitate as stabilizer were used. The content of titanium dioxide was optimized up to 8.0%. Titanium dioxide was used as the UV scattering powder coated with $Al_{2}O_{3}$(UV-sperse T40/TN). The sunscreen cream prepared with W/O emulsion system by using QB and DP showed higher stability than that of W/O emulsion system by using each QB and DP. W/O emulsion from Formula 3 for passing one year was very durable more than F1 and F2. Within W/O emulsion by observing F1, F2 and F3 for one year, F3 was more excellent than F2 and F3 when they were observed at RT, $4^{\circ}C$, $40^{\circ}C$, because F3 used the mixed QB and DP in W/O emulsion. The zeta potential for F1, F2, and F3 after one year were 21, 30 and 43, respectively. From these result F3 was found best stable emulsion. The in-vitro SPF value for F3 was 35 for the initial product at room temperature and also, the in-vitro SPF values of F3 was 32 for after one year. Finally, the mean in-vivo SPF value of 10 volunteers for F3 was 27.3 by the Korea cosmetic association made the rules of SPF.

For improving solar efficiencies, down conversion of high-energy photons to visible lights is discussed. The losses due to thermalization of charge carriers generated by the absorption of high-energy photons, can largely be reduced in a solar cell if more than one electron-hole pair can be generated per incident photon. The solar cell was constructed of dye-sensitized anatase-based TiO$_2$, approximately 30nm particle size, 6$\mu\textrm{m}$thickness, and 6${\times}$6$\textrm{mm}^2$ active area, Pt counter electrode and I$_3$$\^$-/I$_2$$\^$-/ electrolyte. After correction for losses due to light reflection and absorption by the conducting glass, the conversion of photons to electric current is practically quantitative in the plateau region of the curves. The incident photon to current conversion efficiency(IPCE) of N3 used as a dye in this work is about 80% at around 590nm and 610nm which is the emission spectrum of Eu doped LGF. The Eu doped LGF powder was prepared by conventional ceramic process, and used as a down converter for DSC after spin coated on the slide glass and fired.
Nucleation and crystallization of $\beta$-eucryptite in a glass of molecular percentage composition Li2O.Al2O3.2SiO2 are studied. The glasses are made by quenching of the melts from 143$0^{\circ}C$ to room temperature. Heat-treatment for nucleation and crystal growth are caried out at various temperature in the range between 50$0^{\circ}C$ and 80$0^{\circ}C$ with different duration of time. The amounts of crystallization are estimated by the method of x-ray powder diffraction. As the results a time-temperature-transformation relation for crystallization is derived. The maximum rate of crystallization is observed at about 75$0^{\circ}C$ from the T-T-T-curve while the crystallization temperature is detected at 67$0^{\circ}C$ by DTA measurement. The crystallization temperature moved to 62$0^{\circ}C$ by adding 5 weight percents of TiO2 and it moved to 78$0^{\circ}C$ by adding 2 weight percents of V2O5. The crystallization temperature moved to 62$0^{\circ}C$ by adding 5 weight percent of TiO2 it moved to 78$0^{\circ}C$ by adding 2 weight percents of V2O5 The activation energy for crystallization from the pure glass is calculated as 68 Kcal/mol and it varied to 53 Kcal/mol and 110Kcal/mol when 5 weight percents of TiO2 and weight percents of V2O5 are added respectively.
For the production of further functional bio-degradable plastic(polybutylene succinate:PBS) with $TiO_{2}$ as photocatalyst, which shows the decomposition of detrimental organic compound and pollutant under ultraviolet irradiation, we attempted to prepare $TiO_{2}$ coatings on PBS substrate by HVOF and plasma spraying techniques under various conditions. The microstructures of coatings were characterized with SEM and XRD analysis, and the photocatalytic efficiency of coatings was evaluated through the photo degradation of gaseous acetaldehyde. The effects of primary particle size and spraying parameters on the formation behavior, photo catalytic performance and mechanical characteristics of the coatings have been investigated. The results indicated that with respect to both the HVOF sprayed $P_{200}$ and $P_{30}$ coatings, the high anatase ratio off 100% can be achieved regardless of fuel gas pressure. On the other hand, the HVOF sprayed $P_{7}$ coating exhibited largely decreased anatase ratio (from 100% to 49.1%) with increasing the fuel gas pressure, which may be attributed to the much higher susceptibility to heat of 7nm agglomerated powder. In terms of photocatalytic efficiency, HVOF sprayed $P_{200}$ and $P_{30}$ coatings seem to predominate as compared to that of plasma sprayed $P_{200}$ coatings owing to the higher anatase ratio. However, the HVOF sprayed $P_{7}$ coatings didn't show the photo catalytic activity, which may result from the extremely small reaction surface area to the photo-catalytic activity and low anatase ratio. Such functional PBS with new roles is expected to cosiderably contribute to the reduction of aggravated environmel problem.

Columnar-structured cesium iodide (CsI) scintillators doped with thallium (Tl) are frequently used as x-ray converters in medical and industrial imaging. In this study we investigated the imaging characteristics of CsI:Tl films with various reflective layers-aluminum (Al), chromium (Cr), and titanium dioxide ($TiO_2$) powder-coated on glass substrates. We used two effusion-cell sources in a thermal evaporator system to fabricate CsI:Tl films on substrates. The scintillators were observed via scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and scintillation characteristics were evaluated on the basis of the emission spectrum, light output, light response to x-ray dose, modulation transfer function (MTF), and x-ray images. Compared to control films without a reflective layer, CsI:Tl films with reflective layers showed better sensitivity and light collection efficiency, and the film with a $TiO_2$ reflective layer showed the best properties.
High critical current density. $J_c$ over $1MA/cm^2$ at 77 K in a self field was successfully achieved from the YBCO film prepared on (100) $SrTiO_3$ single-crystal substrates by the TFA-MOD process. Unlike a normal TFA-MOD process, we prepared the TFA precursor solution by dissolving YBCO powder into the trifluoroacetic acid. A significant amount of the second phases, including $BaF_2$, was observed in the films fired at $700-725^{\circ}C$ for 2 h under $P(O_2)=10^{-3}$ atm and $P(H_2O)=4.2%$, most probably due to an insufficient reaction time, and hence $T_c$ was greatly degraded. However the films fired at $750-800^{\circ}C$ for 2 h were composed of strongly c-axis oriented YBCO grams without any second phases. and exhibited the $T_c$ values of 89.5 ~ 91 K with a sharp transition. With increasing the firing temperature from 750 to $800^{\circ}C$ average grain size of YBCO was increased and grain connectivity was enhanced. The highest $J_c$ value of $1.1MA/cm^2$ was obtained from the YBCO film fired at $800^{\circ}C$.
The electrochemical properties of the $AB_2$-type (Zr-Ti-V-Ni-Cr-Co-Mn) metal hydride electrodes prepared by ball milling with $AB_5-type\{(LM)Ni_{3.6}Al_{0.4}Co_{0.7}Mn_{0.3}\}$(LM : Lanthanum-rich mischmetal) alloy powder as a surface activator were investigated. By ball milling with $AB_5$ type alloy powder, the activation of $AB_2$ type metal hydride electrode was accelerated resulting in an increase of discharge capacity from 35% to 85% of the maximum capacity at the first cycle. As the amount of surface activator increased the activation rate increased, whereas the discharge capacity increased with 10wt% and decreased with 20wt% addition of the surface activator. When the amount of the surface activator was kept constant as 10wt%, the discharge capacity and the activation rate increased with ball milling time up to 20 hours. However beyond 20 hours of ball milling time, they decreased drastically due to the nano-crystallization or amorphorzation of the alloy powder.
Porous metallic glass compact (PMGC) are developed by electro-discharge sintering (EDS) process of gas atomized $Zr_{41.2}Ti_{13.8}Cu_{12.5}Ni_{10}Be_{22.5}$ metallic glass powder under of 0.2 kJ generated by a $450{\mu}F$ capacitor being charged to 0.94 kV. Functional iron-oxides are formed and growth on the surface of PMGCs via hydrothermal synthesis. It is carried out at $150^{\circ}C$ for 48hr with distilled water of 100 mL containing Fe ions of 0.18 g/L. Consequently, two types of iron oxides with different morphology which are disc-shaped $Fe_2O_3$ and needle-shaped $Fe_3O_4$ are successfully formed on the surface of the PMGCs. This finding suggests that PMGC witih hydrothermal technique can be attractive for the practical technology as a new area of structural and functional materials. And they provide a promising road map for using the metallic glasses as a potential functional application.

Several boride sintered bodies such as $TiB_2$, $ZrB_2$, and $SiB_6$ were previously reported. In the present study, the sinterability and physical properties of chromium boride $(CrB_2)$ containing chromium carbide $(Cr_3C_2)$ sintered bodies were investigated in order to determine its new advanced material. The samples were sintered at desired temperature for 1 hour in vacuum under a pressure by hot pressing. The relative density of sintered bodies was measured by Archimedes' method. The relative densities of $CrB_2$ addition of 0, 5, 10, 15 and 20 mass% $Cr_3C_2$ composites were 92 to 95%. The Vickers hardness of the $CrB_2$ with 10 and 15 mass% $Cr_3C_2$ composites were about 14 and 15 GPa at room temperature, respectively. The Vickers hardness at high temperature of the $CrB_2$ addition of 10 mass% $Cr_3C_2$ composite decreased with increasing measurement temperature. The Vickers hardness at 1273 K of the sample was 6 GPa. The Vickers hardness of $CrB_2$ addition of $Cr_3C_2$ composites was higher than monolithic $CrB_2$ sintered body. The powder X-ray diffraction analysis detected CrB and $B_4C$ phases in $CrB_2$ containing $Cr_3C_2$ composites.
