  • Microstructure, room temperature resistivity and temperature coefficient of resistance of BaTiO3 ceramics were characterized and measured in this study. The basic composition of the BaTiO3 cremics was formed by adding 0.25 mol% Dy2O3 and 0.07 mol% MnO2 to the BaTiO3 composition. Samples of the BaTiO3 ceramics were prepared by adding various amounts of the TiO2, SiO2 and Al2O3 to the basic composition. An addition of 1 mol% TiO2, 2 mol% SiO2 and 0.5 mol% Al2O3 to the basic composition resulted both the values of the room temperature resistivity and the temperatured coefficient being maxium. Meanwhile, an addition of 1 mol% TiO2 and 1 mol% Al2O3 to the basic composition resulted the value of the room temperature resistivity maxium and the temperature coefficient minimum. The temperature coefficient showed a maximum value as well as a minimum value when the three kinds of the additives were added together to the basic composition of the BaTiO3 ceramics. Maxed phases of BaTi3O7, BaTiSiO5 and BaAl2Si2O8 were present at the grain boundary.

Microwave Dielectric Properties of the $MgTiO_3-SrTiO_3$ Ceramics ($MgTiO_3-SrTiO_3$ 세라믹스의 마이크로파 유전특성)

  • The(1-x) MgTiO$_3$-xSrTiO$_3$(x=0.03~0.04) ceramics were fabricated by the conventional mixed oxide method. The structural and microwave dielectric properties were investigated by XRD, SEM, EDS and network analyzer. The sintering temperature and time were 1275$^{\circ}C$~135$0^{\circ}C$ and 2hours, respectively. In the XRD results of 0.96MgTiO$_3$-0.04SrTiO$_3$ceramics, the perovskite structure of SrTiO$_3$and ilmenite structure of MgTiO$_3$phase were coexisted. The dielectric constant($\varepsilon$(sub)${\gamma}$) and temperature coefficient of resonant frequency($\tau$(sub)f) were increased with addition of SrTiO$_3$. In thie case of 0.96MgTiO$_3$-0.04SrTiO$_3$ ceramics sintered at 13$25^{\circ}C$, the dielectric constant, quality factor(Q) and temperature coefficient of resonant frequency($\tau$(sub)f) were 20.13, 7956(at 7.27GHz), and +1.76ppm/$^{\circ}C$, respectively.

  • The $BaTiO_3/SrTiO_3$ heterolayered thick films were fabricated by the screen printing method on alumina substrates. The effect of the sintering temperature on the microstructure and dielectric properties of the $BaTiO_3/SrTiO_3$ thick films has been investigated. The relative dielectric constant and dielectric loss at 1 MHz of the $BaTiO_3/SrTiO_3$ heterolayered thick films with sintering temperature of $1350^{\circ}C$ were about 751 and 1.74, respectively. The remanent polarization $(P_r)$ of the pure $(Ba_{0.5}Sr_{0.5})TiO_3$ and $BaTiO_3/SrTiO_3$ heterolayered films are approximately $5.1\;{\mu}C/cm^2$ and $10\;{\mu}C/cm^2$. This study suggests that the design of the $BaTiO_3/SrTiO_3$ heterolayered thick films capacitor with different phase should be an effective method to enhance the dielectric and ferroelectric performance in devices.

  • The morphotropic phase boundary and phase transitions of the solid solutiion system, (1-x)(Na1/2Bi1/2)TiO3-PbTiO3+xPbTiO3 were studied by investigating changes in crystal structure, variations in permittivity with temperature, and calorimetric behavior. It was observed that the morphotropic phase boundary (MPB) of this solid solutiion system was at near 14 mol% of PbTiO3. Compositions containing less than 10mol% PbTiO3 (x<0.1) exhibited a phase transition, i.e. ferroelectric rhombohedrallongrightarrowparaelectric paraelectric cubic, with increasing temperature. Composition containing more than 14 mol% PbTiO3 (x 0.14) showed a phase transition from ferroelectric tetragonal to paraelectric cubic. In the composition range of 0.1$\varepsilon$ (T) curve, which coincided with a phase transition from ferroelectric rhombohedral to an intermediate phase, was also found.

  • The (1-x)$MgTiO_3-xSrTiO_3$$(x=0.03{\sim}0.04)$ ceramics were fabricated by conventional mixed oxide method.   • The microwave dielectric ceramic properties of $CaTiO_3-(Li_{1/2}Nd_{1/2})TiO_3$ were investigated. The solid solution of $CaTiO_3-(Li_{1/2}Nd_{1/2})TiO_3$ had the perovskite structure in the range of all composition. The dielectric constant and temperature coefficient of resonant frequency of solid solution were decreased with the contend of $(Li_{1/2}Nd_{1/2})TiO_3$, whereas, the $Q{\times}f$ value was increased. In the $(1-X)CaTiO_3-X(Li_{1/2}Nd_{1/2})TiO_3$ system, the microwave properties could be controlled by the variation of X, X is weight fraction. Typical value of K=119, $Q{\times}f=2970$ and $TCF=14ppm/^{\circ}C$ were obtained for $0.2CaTiO_3-0.8(Li_{1/2}Nd_{1/2})TiO_3$.

  • [ $SrTiO_3$ ] is usually added as shifters in order to move the $T_C$ of $BaTiO_3$ to lower temperatures because it is well established that the $T_C$ of $BaTiO_3$ decreases linearly with a solid solution of $Sr^{+2}$ in place of $Ba^{+2}$. It is not fully understood yet, however, how $SrTiO_3$ influences on the peak value of the dielectric constant $(\varepsilon_{max})$ at the $T_C$ of $BaTiO_3$. This research reports the effect of $SrTiO_3$ addition on εmax at the $T_C$ of $BaTiO_3$ ceramics. Based on the chemical composition and the grain size dependence of the dielectric property of $BaTiO_3$ ceramics, functionally graded $(Ba,Sr)TiO_3$ composites were designed and fabricated. Multi-layered $(Ba,Sr)TiO_3$ composites with a compositional gradient of $SrTiO_3$ exhibited a low temperature coefficient and high dielectric constant in a wide temperature range.

Effects of $Nd_2O_3$ and $TiO_2$ Addition on the Microstructures and Microwave Dielectric Properties of $BaO-Nd_2O_3-TiO_2$ System

  • The effects of $Nd_2O_3$ and $TiO_2$ addition on the microstructures and microwave dielectic properties of $BaO-Nd_2O_3-TiO_2$ system were investigated. $BaNd_2Ti_4O_{12}$ or $BaNd_2Ti_{5}O_{14}$ phases were observed for compositions based on BaO/$Nd_2O_3$ = 1 ratio. The compositions deviated from $BaO/Nd_2O_3=1$ ratio were composed of major phases of $BaNd_2Ti_4O_{12}$ or $BaNd_2Ti_5O_{14}$, and the compound of $Nd_2O_3$ and $TiO_2(Nd_2Ti_2O_7)$ or that of BaO and $TiO_2(BaTi_4O_9)$. The microstructure of ceramic with $BaO{\cdot}Nd_2O_3{\cdot}4TiO_2$ composition varied from spherical grains to needlelike grains with increasing sintering temperature. With increasing $Nd_2O_3$, the optimum sintering temperature with maximum density increased, and the dielectric constant(${\varepsilon}_r$) and quality factor(Q) decreased due to the formation of secondary phases. With increasing $TiO_2$, the optimum sintering temperature and the dielectric constant decreased with increased Q value. And the temperature coefficient of resonant frequency, ${\tau}_f$ shifted toward positive direction. The dielectric ceramics with $BaO/Nd_2O_3=1$ showed Q values of above 2000 and dielectric constants of above 80 at 3GHz.

  • The Powder characteristics and sintering behavior of $SiO_2$ coated $BaTiO_3$ were studied. $BaTiO_3$ powders were synthesized by the liquid mix method developed by Pechini, and silica coating was prepared by alkoxide hydrolysis method with TEOS and ethanol. The particle size of the $BaTiO_3$ powders was 35 nm and the thickness of the $SiO_2$ coating layer was 5 nm. As the $SiO_2$ content increased, the $SiO_2$ layers improved the powder dispersion by increasing electrostatic repulsion between the $BaTiO_3$ particles. Effects of MgO coating on microstructure and dielectric properties of $BaTiO_3$ have been studied compared with mechanically MgO mixed $BaTiO_3$. MgO coated $BaTiO_3$ particles were prepared by a homogeneous precipitation method using $MgCl_2\cdot 6H_2O$ and urea. MgO coated $BaTiO_3$ exhibited homogeneous microstructure compared with mixed samples. XRD analysis revealed that Mg substitution for the Ti site in the MgO mixed sample was much greater than in the coated one. Electrical properties of MgO mixed and coated $BaTiO_3$ were affected by the diffusion behavior of Mg in $BaTiO_3$ lattice.

Synthesis of $SrTiO_3$ from the Mixtures of $SrCO_3$ and $TiO_2$ ($SrCO_3$$TiO_2$를 사용한 $SrTiO_3$의 합성반응에 관한 연구)

  • The formation of strontium titanate from several molar $SrCO_3$ and $TiO_2$ mixtures was studied in air and $CO_2$ gas Mixtures of $SrCO_3$ and $TiO_2$ were heated in air at 400-$600^{\circ}C$ DTA-TG was used to obtain thermal histories of simples heated in air and $CO_2$ gas. X-ray diffraction analysis was used to determine both the phase composition and the amounts of each phase present. The phase relationship of various compounds $SrTiO_3$, $Sr_2TiO_4$, $Sr_2Ti_3O_7$ and $Sr_4Ti_3O_{10}$ formed by the sintering in each composition was shown by the calibration curves. High temperature X-ray analysis was used to determine both the formation process and deformation process of each products. Small amount of SrTiO3 is formed first at the surface af contact SrTiO3 reacts with $SrCO_3$ to form Sr2TiO4 this is affected on the $CO_2$ pressure.
