Behaviors of Abnormal Expansion in $Ba_2Ti_9O_{20}$ Ceramics during Calcination Process ($Ba_2Ti_9O_{20}$ 요업체의 하소공정중 이상팽창 거동)

  • Behaviors of abnormal expansion during calcination process of Ba2Ti9O20 ceramics and its related effects on the sintering characteristics were investigated as a function of precursors. When BaCO3 and TiO2 powders were used as starting materials. BaTi4O9 phase which has relatively large molar volume was formed drastically with abnormal ex-pansion during the calcination at 95$0^{\circ}C$ to 115$0^{\circ}C$ ON the contrary using BaTiO3 and TiO2 powders as starting materials led to retardation of the formation of BaTi4O9 phase and concurrently suppressed the abnormal expansion during cal-cination process. Especially the calcined powder of BaTiO3 and TiO2 had advantages in the densification and formation of Ba2Ti9O20 single phase in the sintering process.

Microwave Dielectric Properties of the (1-x)MgxSr$TiO_3$(x=0.03~0.04) ceramics ((1-x)MgxSr$TiO_3$(x=0.03~0.04) 세라믹스의 마이크로파 유전특성)

  • The (1-x)MgTiO$_3$-xSrTiO$_3$(x=0.03~0.04) ceramics were fabricated by the conventional mixed oxide method. The sintering temperature and time were 125$0^{\circ}C$~135$0^{\circ}C$, 2hr., respectively. From the X-ray diffraction patterns, it was found that the perovskite SrTiO$_3$ and ilmenite MgTiO$_3$ structures coexisted in the (1-x)MgTiO$_3$-xSrTiO$_3$(x=0.03~0.04) ceramics. The dielectric constant($\varepsilon$$_{r}$) was increased with addition of SrTiO$_3$. The temperature coefficient of resonant frequency($\tau$$_{f}$) was gradually varied from negative value to the positive value with increasing the SrTiO$_3$. The negative temperature coefficient of resonant frequency of the magnesium titanate was adjusted to near zero at x=0.036, where the dielectric constant, quality factor, and $\tau$$_{f}$ were 20.65, 95120, and +1.3ppm/$^{\circ}C$, respectively. The temperature stability of qualify factor in (1-x)MgTiO$_3$-xSrTiO$_3$(x=0.03~0.04) ceramics increased as the amount of MgTiO$_3$./TEX>.

Diffusion and Oxidation of Ti3+ Interstitials on a Reduced TiO2 (001) Surface: A Crystal-face Dependency (TiO2 (001)면에서 Ti 결함의 확산과 산화: 결정면에 대한 의존성)

  • Valence band of a vacuum-reduced $TiO_2$ (001) surface has been carefully examined using synchrotron x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy to investigate variation of the gap state upon oxidation and thermal diffusion of $Ti^{3+}$ interstitials from the bulk. We compare our results with that obtained from $TiO_2$ (110) and aim to address a crystal-face dependency in the oxidation and diffusion rates of $Ti^{3+}$ interstitials. We find very similar behaviors in the oxidation and thermal diffusion rate of $Ti^{3+}$ interstitials between the two crystal faces suggesting a negligible crystal-face dependency in this case.

  • The 0.96$MgTiO_3$-0.04$BaTiO_3$ ceramics were prepared by the conventional mixed oxide method. The structural properties were investigated with sintering temperature and composition ratio by XRD, SEM and EDS. According to the X-ray diffraction patterns of the 0.96$MgTiO_3$-0.04$BaTiO_3$ ceramics, the hexagonal $BaMg_6Ti_6O_{19}$ and ilmenite $MgTiO_3$ structures were coexisted. In the case of the 0.96$MgTiO_3$-0.04$BaTiO_3$ ceramics sintered at 1325$^{\circ}C$, dielectric constant, quality factor and temperature coefficient of resonant frequency were 23.95, 70,200, -55.8ppm/$^{\circ}C$, respectively.

  • The TiC-(Ni/Ti) composites were prepared by reaction bonding between TiC preforms and the melted mixture of Ni/Ti metal the atomic ratio of which were the ranges of 0.3 to 3. And their microstructures phase composi-tions and mechanical properties were investigated. During reaction bonding Ni/Ti metal mixture had a good wettability an permeability with TiC preforms and pore-free and fully dense sintered bodies were fabricated. TiC particle shape changed from spherical to angular platelet-like and grain size was grown with Ni/Ti atomic ratio increasing from 0.3 to 1. whereas grain growth of TiC particle was restrained and its shape changed gain from angular platelet-like to spherical when Ni/Ti atomic ratio was more than 2. Maximum bending strength and fracture toughness were obtained at the Ni/Ti atomic ratio being 1 their values were 582 MPa and 11.1 MPa.m1/2 respectively.

Electrical properties of layered $BaTiO_3$ thin film (적층구조 $BaTiO_3$ 박막의 전기적 특성)

  • The layered BaTiO3 thin films with a high dielectric constant of polycrystalline BaTiO3 and a good in-sulating property of amorphous BaTiO3 were prepared. And their electrical properties were characterized with stacking methods. The BaTiO3 thin films were prepared by rf-magnetron sputtering technique using a ceramic target on Indium-doped Tin oxide coated glasses. A new stacking method resulted in higher dielec-tric constant, capacitance per unit area, and breakdown strength than those prepared by a conventional stacking method; the new method continuously decrease the substrate temperature after initial deposition of a polycrystalline BaTiO3 layer. The observed high dielectric constant could be explained only by a mul-tilayered amorphous/microcrystalline/polycrystalline structure, which was confirmed indirectly by AES depth profile.

  • Polymer/ceramic composites are the most promising embedded capacitor material for organic substrates application. Predicting the effective dielectric constant of polymer/ceramic composites is very important for design of composite materials. In this paper, we measured the dielectric constant of epoxy/$BaTiO_3$ composite embedded capacitor films with various $BaTiO_3$ particles loading for 5 different sizes $BaTiO_3$ powders. Experimental data were fitted to several theoretical equations to find the equation useful for the prediction of the effective dielectric constant of polymer/ceramic composites and also to estimate the dielectric constant of $BaTiO_3$ powders. The Lichtenecker equation and the Jayasundere-Smith equation were useful for the prediction of the effective dielectric constant of epoxy/$BaTiO_3$ composites. And calculated dielectric constants of the $BaTiO_3$ powders were in the range of 100 to 600, which were lower than those of $BaTiO_3$ bulk ceramics.

  • The effect of ZrC and VC addition on the diffusion induced recrystallization (DIR) of TiC-Cr3C2 has been investigated. With in creasing the amount of added ZrC to Cr3C2 the DIR of TiC was suppressed at the begining and then occurred. On the contrary the DIR was accelerated with the addition of VC to Cr3C2 Because the lattice parameters of (Ti, Cr)C and (Ti,V)C are smaller and that of (Ti, Zr)C is larger than that of TiC the lattice parameter of (Ti,Cr,Zr)C is expected to be similar to that of TiC,. The results indicate that the strain energy due to lattice mismatch between TiC and solid-solution carbide is the driving force of the observed energy due to lattice mismatch between TiC and solid-solution carbide is the driving force of the observed DIR.

The Effect of Ti/Sr Ratio on Abnormal Grain Growth of Nb-doped $SrTiO_3$ ($Nb_2O_5$를 첨가한 $SrTiO_3$의 비정상 입성장에 미치는 Ti/Sr 비의 영향)

  • The influence of Ti/Sr ratio on abnormal grain growth of Nb-doped SrTiO3 was investigated. For specimens which were isothermally sintered at temperatures above 144$0^{\circ}C$, the nucleation and growth rates of abnormal grain growth were decreased with increasing Ti/Sr ratio. But the onset time of abnormal grain growth was increased with increasing Ti/Sr ratio. The cross-section of abnormally grown grains was mostly hexagonal. When the specimens were quenched in air after they reached their setting temperatures at a heating rate of 3$^{\circ}C$/min, the onset temperature of abnormal grain growth was increased with increasing Ti/Sr ratio and the final grain size was independent of Ti/Sr ratio. The cross-section of abnormally grown grains was mostly rectangular.

  • A spectrochemical analysis was made to compare the major impurities in $BaTiO_3$ single crystals grown from $KF-BaTiO_3$ system and $TiO_2-BaTiO_3$ system respectively. The present technique was also extended, without any modifications, to the analysis of $SrTiO_3$ crystal.
