In this paper, we propose a new multiple access scheme for VSAT(Very Small Aperture Terminal) data communications. The proposed scheme has better performance in terms of delay throughput than Controlled Multiaccess Scheme which has excellent performance. The proposed scheme use the spare reservation method, adaptation method to offered load, and fixed bandwidth reservation method. In this paper, we analyze the performance using simple queueing model and present the simulation results. When network traffic is very low, the new scheme and the controlled multiaccess scheme have almost the same access delay characteristic. As the network load becomes higher, the new scheme's access delay gain becomes larger. Futhermore, even when the network traffic is very high it is possible to access satellite link within the delay similar to one round-trip delay. In addition to access delay performance enhancement, the new scheme has facility that supports fixed bandwidth reservation. So it shows more enhanced performance in the environment that stream traffic is dominant such as in VSAT communication environment.
Cognitive radio (CR) has emerged as one of effective methods to enhance the utilization of existing radio spectrum. Main principle of CR is that secondary users (SUs) are allowed to use the spectrum unused by primary users (PUs) without interfering PU's transmissions. In this paper, PUs operate on a slot-by-slot basis and SUs try to exploit the slots unused by PUs. We propose OSA protocols in the single channel and we propose an opportunistic spectrum access (OSA) protocols in the multi-channel cognitive radio networks with one control channel and several licensed channels where a slot is divided into contention phase and transmission phase. A slot is divided into reporting phase, contention phase and transmission phase. The reporting phase plays a role of finding idle channels unused by PUs and the contention phase plays a role of selecting a SU who will send packets in the data transmission phase. One SU is selected by carrier sense multiple access / collision avoidance (CSMA/CA) with request to send / clear to send (RTS/CTS) mechanism on control channel and the SU is allowed to occupy all remaining part of all idle channels during the current slot. For mathematical analysis, first we deal with the single-channel case and we model the proposed OSA media access control (MAC) protocol by three-dimensional discrete time Markov chain (DTMC) whose one-step transition probability matrix has a special structure so as to apply the censored Markov chain method to obtain the steady state distribution. We obtain the throughput and the distribution of access delay. Next we deal with the multi-channel case and obtain the throughput and the distribution of access delay by using results of single-channel case. In numerical results, our mathematical analysis is verified by simulations and we give numerical results on throughput and access delay of the proposed MAC protocol. Finally, we find the maximum allowable number of SUs satisfying the requirements on throughput and access delay.
The fixed spectrum assignment policy in today's wireless networks leads to inefficient spectrum usage. Cognitive radio network is a new communication paradigm that enables the unlicensed users to opportunistically use the spatio-temporally unoccupied portions of the spectrum, and hence realizing a dynamic spectrum access (DSA) methodology. Interference temperature model proposed by Federal Communications Commission (FCC) permits the unlicensed users to utilize the licensed frequencies simultaneously with the primary users provided that they adhere to the interference temperature constraints. In this paper, we formulate two NP-hard optimal scheduling methods that meet the interference temperature constraints for cognitive radio networks. The first one maximizes the network throughput, whereas the second one minimizes the scheduling delay. Furthermore, we also propose suboptimal schedulers with linear complexity, referred to as maximum frequency selection (MFS) and probabilistic frequency selection (PFS). We simulate the throughput and delay performance of the optimal as well as the suboptimal schedulers for varying number of cognitive nodes, number of primary neighbors for each cognitive node, and interference temperature limits for the frequencies. We also evaluate the performance of our proposed schedulers under both additive white gaussian noise (AWGN) channels and Gilbert-Elliot fading channels.

In this paper, the performance of the various multiple access techniques for the mobile computer network has been studiedi in the consideration of the charactersitics of the mobile cimmunication channel. In the case of the hidden node occurring. It could be seen that the performance of the code division multiple access (CDMA) technique with simultaneous access function is better than that of the other packet access methods such as carrier sendsed multiple access (CDMA), busy tone multiple access (BTMA) and idle signal multiple access (ISMA) in the view of the throughput and mean delay time. Also, it has been shown that the performance of the CDMA method is superior to that of other packet access techniques such as multiple access (CSMA), etc. when the fading effect or impulsive noise exists in the mobile channel, Especially, in the case of the distributed mobile network it has been shown that the receivertransmitter based CDMA method using the characteristics of CDMA effectively has better throughput and less mean delay time than the commontransmitter based CDMA technique.
This paper proposes an ATM switch architecture called Output Queued Batcher-Banyan switch (OQBBS). It consists of a Sorting Module, Expanding Module, and Output Queueing Modules. The principles of channel grouping and output queueing are used to increase the maximum throughput of an ATM switch. One distinctive feature of the OQBBS is that multiple cells can be simultaneously delivered to their desired output. The switch architecture is shown to be modular and easily expandable. The performance of the OQBBS in terms of throughput, cell delays, and cell loss rate under uniform random traffic condition is evaluated by computer simulation. The throughput and the average cell delay are close to the ideal performance behavior of a fully connected output queued crossbar switch. It is also shown that the OQBBS meets the cell loss probability requirement of $10^{-6}$.

Wi-Fi STAs in power saving mode described in the Wi-Fi specification can deteriorate the system performance such as throughput, time delay when they receive data frames from a Wi-Fi AP. This problem is caused by data frame reception failure due to the channel state, and it increases re-transmissions. In this paper, we propose a modified power saving mode considering fairness of Wi-Fi system in order to solve the problem. By simulation, we showed that data throughput can be increased without time delay degradation if the proposed method restricting the number of packet transmission attempts and HARQ are used.

In the near future, it is expected that there will be billions of connected devices using fifth generation (5G) network services. The recently available base stations (BSs) need to mitigate their loads without changing and at the least monetary cost. The available spectrum resources are limited and need to be exploited in an efficient way to meet the ever-increasing demand for services. Device to Device communication (D2D) technology will likely help satisfy the rapidly increasing capacity and also effectively offload traffic from the BS by distributing the transmission between D2D users from one side and the cellular users and the BS from the other side. In this paper, we propose to apply D2D overlay communication with cognitive radio capability in 5G networks to exploit unused spectrum resources taking into account the dynamic spectrum access. The performance metrics; throughput and delay are formulated and analyzed for CSMA-based medium access control (MAC) protocol that utilizes a common control channel for device users to negotiate the data channel and address the contention between those users. Device users can exploit the cognitive radio to access the data channels concurrently in the common interference area. Estimating the achievable throughput and delay in D2D communication in 5G networks is not exploited in previous studies using cognitive radio with CSMA-based MAC protocol to address the contention. From performance analysis, applying cognitive radio capability in D2D communication and allocating a common control channel for device users effectively improve the total aggregated network throughput by more than 60% compared to the individual D2D throughput without adding harmful interference to cellular network users. This approach can also reduce the delay.
This paper analyzes the performance of voice-over-Internet protocol (VoIP) services in terms of the system throughput, the packet delay, and the signaling overhead in a mobile WiMAX system with a hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) mechanism. Furthermore, a queueing analytical model is developed with due consideration of adaptive modulation and coding, the signaling overhead, and the retransmissions of erroneous packets. The arrival process is modeled as the sum of the arrival rate at the initial transmission queue and the retransmission queue, respectively. The service rate is calculated by taking the HARQ retransmissions into consideration. This paper also evaluates the performance of VoIP services in a mobile WiMAX system with and without persistent allocation; persistent allocation is a technique used to reduce the signaling overhead for connections with a periodic traffic pattern and a relatively fixed payload. As shown in the simulation results, the HARQ mechanism increases the system throughput as well as the signaling overhead and the packet delay.

Recently, there ary many researches on local area multichannel network as WDM technology developes. An ideal media access protocol in a multichannel network is one that shows short access delay under low load and high throughput under heavy load. This paper proposed a new media access protocol for WDM passive star coupler network. The proposed one is a random access rpotocol based on reservation. Access delay is short under low load by using random access method, and high throughput is achieved under heavy load by usin greservation access. Analytic model for the performance analysis of the proposed protocol is developed and performance of the proposed protocol is compared with the previous ones. The effect on the performance of the number of the nodes and channels, and the number of transceivers in each node are analyzed.

Energy efficiency is an essential requirement in designing a MAC protocol for wireless sensor networks (WSNs) using battery-operated sensor nodes. We proposed a new receiver-initiated MAC protocol, RIX-MAC, based on the X-MAX protocol with asynchronous duty cycles. In this paper, we analyzed the performance of RIX-MAC protocol in terms of throughput, delay, and energy consumption using the model. For modeling the protocol, we used the Markov chain model, derived the transmission and state probabilities, and obtained the equations to solve the performance of throughput, delay, and energy consumption. Our proposed model and analysis are validated by comparing numerical results obtained from the model, with simulation results using NS-2.
