Background: The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of neck and shoulder self-stretching exercise using audiovisual media on neck pain, postural alignment, and joint position error in women with chronic neck pain. Methods: The subjects included 20 women that gave consent to participate in the study voluntarily. They performed the self-stretching exercises using audiovisual media was carried out 20 minutes 5 times a week during 3 weeks. Neck disability index (NDI) and visual analogue scale (VAS) were used to measure the functional disability and pain, A pressure pain threshold was measured using an algometer, and a cervical range of motion (CROM) measurement tool was used to measure the range of motion and error of proprioceptive position sense of the cervical spine. To assess posture alignment, forward head angle (FHA), forward shoulder angle (FSA) were measured using image J software. Results: The neck pain intensity was statistically significantly within group (p<.05). Neck and shoulder functional disability were a statistically significant difference within group (p<.05). Splenius capitis and upper trapezius pressure pain threshold were statistically significant difference in within group (p<.05). The postural alignment was statistically significantly within group (p<.05). The cervical range of motion in neck extension, right and left lateral flexion were statistically significantly within group (p<.05). The joint position error in neck flexion, extension, right and left lateral flexion decreased statistically significantly within group (p<.05). Conclusion: Self-stretching exercise using audiovisual media increased the mobility of the neck, decreased neck pain and joint position error, and improved posture alignment. As a result, there was a positive effect by applying the self-stretching exercise using audiovisual media to people with neck pain. Based on this, it is thought that it can be used as the basis for research related to home training programs for healthy self-management.

This paper describes a new algorithm for pixel-based skin color detection to differentiate human form in color images by the ratio of R to H. In order to detect skin color efficiently, we examine the distribution of the R, G and B color elements combining to constitute the skin color in various color images. It shows that R is located in a narrower area than G and B on the RGB color space. And skin color is more related to R than G and B. Meanwhile, when the color image is transformed to the HSI color space, the S is variously changed in accordance with skin colors. The I is changed in accordance with the quantity and angle of light. But the H is less influenced by other conditions except for color. On the basis of the aforementioned study, we propose that the threshold for skin color detection is decided by the ratio of R to H. The proposed method narrows down the range of threshold, detects more skin color and reduces mis-detection of skin color in comparison to detection by R or H. In experimentation. it shows that the proposed algorithm overcomes changes of brightness and color to detect skin color in color images.
Objective: Patients with scoliosis complain of various symptoms such as muscle imbalance, dysfunction, back pain, abnormal posture and gait abnormality. The most basic treatment for scoliosis is to observe the progress based on conservative treatment. Therefore, in this case report, the effect of cytoskeletal manual therapy (CMT), a soft tissue mobilization technique, on pain intensity, muscle thickness, and pressure pain threshold (PPT) in a patient with scoliosis was investigated. Design: A case report Methods: A 25-year-old male diagnosed with scoliosis visited the Neuromusculoskeletal Science Laboratory with chronic back pain. In the laboratory, scoliosis was confirmed through the X-ray image used for his diagnosis, and it was confirmed again through Adam's forward bending test. Pain, pressure pain threshold and muscle thickness were measured to compare the immediate effects of CMT applied in the laboratory for 40 minutes. Treatments were visited two weeks after the first visit and outcome measures were assessed after a total of two visits. Results: After receiving CMT up to the second session, the pain intensity decreased by 4 points and the screening angle decreased by 15 degrees. Muscle thickness decreased in all but 10 mm on the dominant side of the thoracic spine. All of the PPTs increased, and the greatest increase was 3.1 lb on the dominant side of the thoracic spine. Conclusions: CMT showed positive improvement in pain during trunk flexion, spinal curvature, muscle imbalance, and pressure pain, which is considered as an ancillary treatment option for scoliosis management.
We investigated the electro-optical characteristics of amorphous (a) - twisted nematic (TN) - liquid crystal display (LCD) on polyimide (Pl) films with different polarity. It was found that the threshold voltage of a-TN-LCD is decreased with increasing the polarity of the Pl film. We considered that the threshold voltage in a-TN-LCD is affected to the surface anchoring strength with polarity of the Pl films. Also, we observed the response time of a-TN-LCD on medium polarity of the Pl film is fast compared to high polarity of the Pl film. Finally, we obtained that the viewing angle of a-TN-LCD are almost same on different polarity of the PI films.
Hot electron simulation of silicon using Monte Carlo method was carried out to investigate impact ionization characteristics near the drain of MOSFET's at 77 and 300K. We successfully characterized drift velocity and impact ionization at 77 and 300K employing a simplified energy band structure and phonon scattering mechanisms. Woods' soft energy threshold model was introduced to the Monte Carlo simulation of impact ionization, and good agreement with reported experimental results was resulted by employing threshold energy of 1.7 eV. It is suggested that the choice of the critical angle between specular reflection and diffusive scattering of surface roughness scattering may be important in determining the impact ionization charateristics of Monte Carlo simulation near the drain of MOSFET's.
Among various biometrics recognition systems, statistical fingerprint recognition matching methods are considered using minutiae on fingerprints. We define similarity distance measures based on the coordinate and angle of the minutiae, and suggest a fingerprint recognition model following statistical distributions. We could obtain confidence intervals of similarity distance for the same and different persons, and optimal thresholds to minimize two kinds of error rates for distance distributions. It is found that the two confidence intervals of the same and different persons are not overlapped and that the optimal threshold locates between two confidence intervals. Hence an alternative statistical matching method can be suggested by using nonoverlapped confidence intervals and optimal thresholds obtained from the distributions of similarity distances.
The purpose of this study is to develop a practical gait-event detection system which is necessary for the FES (functional electrical stimulation) control of locomotion in paralyzed patients. The system is comprised of a sensor board and an event recognition algorithm. We focused on the practicality improvement of the system through 1) using accelerometer to get the angle of shank and dispensing with the foot-switches having limitation in indoor or barefoot usage and 2) using a rule-base instead of threshold to determine the heel-off/heel-strike events corresponding the stimulation on/off timing. The sensor signals are transmitted through RF communication and gait-events was detected using the peaks in shank angle. The system could detect two critical gait-events in all five paralyzed patients. The standard deviation of the gait events time from the peaks were smaller when 1.5Hz cutoff frequency was used in the derivation of the shank angle from the acceleration signals.
The generation of pretilt angle in nematic liquid crystal (NLC) and electro-optical (EO) characteristics of photo-aligned twisted nematic (TN)-LCD with oblique P-polarized ultraviolet (UV) light irradiation on the two kinds of the soluble polyimide (PI) surfaces containing trifluoromethyl moieties were investigated. The generated pretilt angle of NLC is about 2.5$^{\circ}$with P-polarized UV light irradiation of 20$^{\circ}$on PI-3 surface at 20 min.; However pretilt angle of about 0.5$^{\circ}$are observed on PI-1 and PI-2 surfaces. The generated pretilt angle of NLC on PI-3 surface may be attributed to the trifluoromethyl moieties attached to the lateral benzene rings. The voltage-transmittance and response time characteristics of photo-aligned TN-LCD with P-polarized UV light irradiation of 20$^{\circ}$on PI-1 surface at 20 min were almost same in comparison with the rubbing-aligned TN-LCD. However, the high threshold voltage and slow response are observed on PI-3 surface. Also, the decay time $\tau$$\sub$d/ of photo-aligned TN-LCD is attributed to the anchoring energy of NLC.
In this paper, we propose a fault diagnosis method based on Park's Vector Approach using the Euler's theorem. If we interpreted it as Euler's theorem, it is possible to easily find the phase angle difference between the healthy condition and the fault condition. And, we analyzed the variation of the phase angle and performed the diagnostic method of the induction motor using feature vectors that were obtained by using a Fourier transform. The analysis of time and speed variation of the motor was performed and, as a result, we could find more soft variations than rough variations. In particular, the analysis of the distortion through each phase shows that two-turn and four-turn shorted motors are linearly separable. In this experiment, we know that the maximum breakdown threshold value for determining steady-state fault detection is 49.0788. Simulation and experimental results show the more detectable than conventional method.
Radial immersion ratio is an important factor to determine the threshold in face milling and should be estimated in process for automatic force regulation. In this paper, presented is a method of on-line estimation of radial immersion ratio using cutting force. When a tooth finishes sweeping, sudden drop of cutting forces occurs. These force drops are equal to the cutting forces that act on a single tooth at the swept angle of cut and can be acquired from cutting force signals in feed and cross-feed directions. The ratio of cutting forces in feed and cross-feed directions acting on the single tooth at the swept angle of cut is a function of the swept angle of cut and the ratio of radial to tangential cutting force. In the research, it is found that the ratio of radial to tangential cutting force is not affected by cutting conditions and axial rake angle. Therefore, the ratio of radial to tangential cutting force determined by just one preliminary experiment can be used regardless of the cutting conditions. Using the measured cutting forces and predetermined ratio, the redial immersion ratio is estimated. various experiments show that the radial immersion ratio can be estimated by the proposed method very well.
